One thing everyone should find in their neighborhood: an amazing sweets shop. The kind you can pop into on your way to a party and emerge with a perfectly delicious little gift. If the shop has a unique niche or exotic specialty, all the better. I have become enamored with one in our office's neighborhood -- Sukhadia, on West 45th Street. It's an Indian restaurant (I originally went in with the intention of hitting the lunch buffet) but their specialty is desserts. These little silver-leafed treats (nut- and milk-based) are beautiful, delicious, and around $11 a pound. You can bring them anywhere or buy an assortment to serve at your own party, as I recently did. And if you're not in New York, you won't miss out; they sell online (minimum order is $35, but you get free UPS Ground if you spend $60).

I'm gluten intolerent...I linked to the website and the sweets look fabulous, and from the sound of it are mostly sugar, I'm wondering if they are gluten free?
