As luck would have it, with only a few weeks left until the end of my lease, I just discovered a device I could have used back when I moved in, almost two years ago. Although my apartment has a decently renovated kitchen, there’s one of those undesirable gaps between the counter and the stovetop — as I call it, the crumb crevice. I didn’t think I could do anything about it. But then, at one of the open houses I hit on a recent Sunday, I saw something brilliant: a simple strip that bridges the gap.

The one shown here is the Kleen Seam, a curved-metal strip with a perpendicular ridge holding it in place. While looking at options online, I also found this version, called the Gap Cap.

This one is flat and also features magnets to help it stay put. Now I sort of hope the next apartment I find has a crumb crevice, just so I can use this smart trick!

When you finally buy a stove, get the kind with "ears" - essentially little handles on either side that slide over the countertop as the stove is installed. No gaps, no crevices, no crumbs...

That looks like a great invention. I definitely could use several of those in my apartment. I feel like the area between my stove and counter is a bottomless pit of crumbs.

Great idea! I was just thinking that it was about time to pull the stove out from the wall and clean out that crevice... Yuck! Maybe this will help keep it clean!
