I love my flip-flops, but I've also come to terms with the fact that they’re not so office appropriate. Thus, I’ve slowly been building my collection of slightly dressy but super-comfy flats. Of course, this means having to spend more than $2.50 a pair, but does not mean that I’m shelling out big bucks for seasonal footwear. And that’s why I love Zappos. Their prices are always reasonable, they offer 110-percent price protection, and they have free shipping and returns for up to a year. So not only can I afford to buy several pairs, but I can also afford to try on a few sizes and return the ones that don’t fit.
Recently I found some Nine West "Gavin" silver flats on Zappos for $72.95, but I did some sleuthing and located them on the Macy’s site for less than a third of that price (they’re no longer available, though, unless you’re a size 6/6.5 and want them in green with polka-dots). I called Zappos customer service—which you have to do to get a price adjustment—and explained the details. My lovely customer service agent, Rosalie, put me on hold so she could contact Macy’s, which is policy if the price discrepancy is more than $50, and then confirmed my bargain find. Macy’s charges shipping, so that fee was added to the base cost of the shoes before Zappos took off the additional 10 percent, but I ended up paying just under $26 overall.

My purchase arrived a few days later, along with a letter from Rosalie wishing me well in my new shoes. I don’t think the transaction could have been any easier on me -- or on my wallet. As a bonus, when calling to request a price adjustment, you can press "4" to get a joke of the day from one of the team members, such as, “What word is always spelled incorrectly? Incorrectly!” Yeah, it’s cheesy, but sometimes you need that little pick-me-up to tide you over until your new pair of shoes arrives in the mail.

thanks to my shopittome.com email with today's newly listed sale items, it's come to my attention that the silver gavins are still available on piperlime.com but have been reduced to $26.99. so get a pair while you still can!

Thanks for the great tip. I have trouble ordering shoes online because of my inconsistent foot size and I've taken advantage of the Zappos return policy before for this very reason. Knowing about the price adjustment policy makes Zappos even more appealing to me.

Thank you, Shira! I ended up ordering from Piperlime, but I'm so glad you alerted Bluelimes readers to these shoes! Nine West has been my go-to for work shoes for many years, and this is the cutest pair I've seen from them in some time. :)

Actually, it's SHIRA, the art department assistant, who wrote this entry -- and while she might be a keeper of font secrets, I don't think the Zappos people would grant her any favors in order to access them!

To me it doesn't sound like Sarah used any "pull", it sounds like she conducted her transaction when they were still there but at the time of this post they were no longer available. They were on an incredible sale, weren't they?

That shoe is adorable - what a steal!

Yes KeanaLee, you're right. Zappos will only price match on the shoe if it is the same size, style, and color. For the full scoop, check out their policy: http://www.zappos.com/return_and_price_protection.zhtml
In the meantime, if you're still sweating the silver Gavin (and who could blame you?), piperlime.com has it for $33.99, so call Zappos and get your pair today!

Just a note to Bluelines readers: this sounds simple & all but when I tried to call Zappos.com about the same shoe they told me you could NOT get a different color than the one at Macy's so if all Macy's had in your size was the gree-polka dot then all you could get is the green polka dot, you can't exchange it for a different color! So maybe Sarah had some pull being n assoc. fashion editor and all, but it's not going to work for us, unless we want the green-polka dot ones. :-(
