Christina Deyo, a producer for The Martha Stewart Show, decided to share her progress on the 30-day Body + Soul Challenge with daily diary entries. Here’s her latest entry:
Graceann, the new High School Musical star!
I was exhausted when I got home from work last night (and not to mention starving). My daughter Gemma left a half eaten cupcake on the table…and yes…I ate it. I need to start preparing healthy (emergency) snacks that are ready to go in an instant. That was not the best choice…but I gave in to temptation.
I wanted to give in to temptation and not exercise too—but I couldn’t have the night be a total disaster. My husband was working overtime and the thought of exercising seemed more of an impossible task than climbing Mt. Everest. So I talked myself into doing a “fun” exercise with my 5 girls. We stretched out first and then we put on some music and began sweating to the oldies. We danced and laughed and danced….and worked up a great sweat. I thought I was going to pass out I was jumping around and kicking so much. I don’t know if it was the best workout—but it definitely was the most fun. Maybe Mary Tedesco can advise me on workouts to stay motivated when I’m exhausted. Moving around and having my heart rate up felt great. We danced for about a half hour—and my girls thought it was the most fun thing they’ve done. I do want to teach them that exercising can be about fun.

Christina, when you are exhausted it's hard not to grab the most convenient thing available (even if it is a cupcake) Not the worst thing in the world, but the snacks that have been posted are quick too, just need to train your brain.
I am so happy for you that you got a workout in and included your daughters. Good for you, exercise can be fun! Keep it up!

Your girl's looked like they had so much fun that they are going to insist "dance night" as a weekly event! How much fun is that? What a great thing to look forward to. I think exercise goes by so much faster when you have a buddy or 2 or 5 !
You inspire me!

Christina - I have never been so grateful for a blog post!! I love your honesty in telling us you ate the cupcake, but I love even more that you had a dancing night with your girls. That is just awesome! My 4 year old daughter just loves High School Musical and I was feeling less-than-motivated myself to get exercising the other day. We did the same thing as you- put on her High School Musical 2 songs and danced around the living room. I haven't felt that good about a workout in a long time. I personally think I'm going to ask HER if we can make it a weekly thing.
Love this blog - thank you so much!!!
