It’s counterintuitive, but with baby Edward on board it’s easier to cook for friends than to visit their homes or go to restaurants -- I worry less about all three boys’ behavior, and so I stress less and have a good time.
But having company for dinner can feel daunting (six kids under six, plus four adults can do that), so sometimes I make brunch.
That’s the plan this weekend, when Joe’s friend Alex and his family come over midday Sunday. We picked 10 pounds of blueberries in Connecticut last week -- yes, 10 pounds; at $1.50 per pound how could I not? -- so baking Blueberry Muffins Saturday is a no-brainer.
On Sunday morning I’ll cut some melon and prep ingredients for an apple-cheddar frittata, basically an oven-baked omelet, and sweet glazed sausage.
I can finish up after everyone arrives: The frittata takes only 20 minutes in the oven and cider-glazed sausage cooks in a matter of minutes, too. Meantime, the kids can play and we can caffeinate.
Then we’ll have a good meal and be ready to play some more.

I think it's easier to host at home than to go out too! Esp when my boys were younger...lugging all those diapers and toys was just such a hassle.
Gorgeous blueberries...
