This week on Homegrown (9-11am ET, Martha Stewart Living Sirius Radio 112), we'll cover the basics of pruning and also talk roses. Our guest, Joel Schraven of Pickering Nurseries in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, will be joining us to share his knowledge on antique rose varieties. He'll also highlight types of roses to grow for a cutting garden. To follow-up on last week's Arbor Day, we have some tree news to share, and plan on discussing container planting, herbs, and urban birding. As always, we're here to help answer your urgent gardening questions so call in with any gardening conundrums, or even gardening complaints.

If roses are revisited in the future, I'd love to hear you address disease resistant roses like polyantha roses which require fewer insecticidal, antifungal, and other treatments (thus reducing the chemicals and minerals introduced to the garden) and the practice of companion planting (a la roses love garlic) to increase vigor.
