Sneak Peek into My Kitchen

If you watch my television show, you know that I always keep a bowl of coarse salt on hand for easy seasoning. At home in Bedford, I don't have one bowl next to my range -- I have 14. In addition to the salts -- a mix of pink, gray, and white sea salts -- I have a few assorted ground peppers, arranged in ramekins on a copper tray. This way, I can always reach for a pinch of just the right seasoning for a dish.

Nice array of kitchen tools also! It looks like you have a lot of counter space. Lucky you. Hey, someone sneaked in another ramekin; I counted 15. Now I'm trying to figure out what that black container is in front of the pepper mills; another pepper mill?

Hi Martha, I have a question about this:

Don't you worry about dust and insects getting in the bowls?

(I live in an old cabin; maybe it's just me.)

This is insane.

Wonderful photo Martha and an equally wonderful idea. I too keep salt and freshly ground pepper in containers to 'pinch' when I cook. I love the array of salts you use. I'll have to review past issues of the magazine as I'm sure you've published a salt glossary. At what point should these salts and peppers be replaced?

Very nice things!
Big hug!

talk about salt!!!!!!!!!

You make me feel better about myself and my need to have my kitchen items "availalbe" out on the counter. (Nicely arranged, but out, not hidden in a cabinet). What piece of equipment could you not live without in the kitchen?

Martha your kitchen looks like a real cooks works there. How handy everything is. I have not found sea salt that contains iodine. Don't you worry about the lack of iodine in the salt or am I missing something? Love your blogs. Thanks for sharing.

Sigh. What I would give to have that much counter space.

I would love to see more of your kitchen, your house!!! (of course I mean, in pictures!!! although......) I get inspirational at your good things and try to incorporate, imitate them in my own home and life. thank you.
Sincerely,

I'm also a fan of convenience! My concern would be the humidity; do you cover or put the ramekins away after you prepare/cook a meal? Or do they simply not cake up? Thanks for the continuing education and good things!! She*

Hi Martha,

Great tip on keeping seasonings handy! I'd love to know how you keep the grates on your G.E. cook top so clean. I struggle with the grates on mine. I would also love to see your bathroom. Mine needs a redo desperately and am in the process of gathering ideas.

Thank you for all your wonderful ideas.

Martha,

I was admiring the copper trays that hold your assortment of salts and seasonings. Wondering where I might purchase one? Thanks!

IT IS WONDERFUL TO HAVE A GIFT. I ALWAYS ADMIRE YOUR STYLE. PLEASE ALWAYS BE TRUE TO YOUR SELF.

Purchased your set of 5 mixing bowls (beige outside, white inside) at Macy's. Love them. Keep them on the counter for easy access since I use them quite often

Dear Martha,
I looked at your new kitchen and I think it is wonderful. You have it too good! I am impressed with your portable islands and I would like to know who built them for you. I would like to have an smaller version for my smaller version kitchen. It is hard to find info in your magazine. Please help.

Thank you.
Margo
