As I announced on my television show on Thursday, my dear Mother, Big Martha, as we fondly call her, suffered a stroke. My Mom recently turned 93 and although her body was slowing her down, her mind remained sharp as a tack. She is in the hospital receiving really fine care and has been surrounded by family members and dear friends. We are all hoping for a speedy recovery so that she can get back to the life that she loves. I want to thank all of you who have sent best wishes and I will keep you informed of her progress.

Yes, she is very beautiful. I hope she gets well soon!
Kind Regards,
Stef in Seattle

I learned about Polish dishes from Big Martha's segments on your first tv show. I also loved her appearances during the holiday segments. I hope I can be as productive, active and inspiring at age 93.
Sending good thoughts your way, Martha.

Your mom is a doll and has the nicest, biggest smile! I love it when she teases you like moms will do! I will continue to pray for her to return home ASAP and hopefully she'll be back in the kitchen kneading some dough before you know it. She is an artist when it comes to that!
My fondest wishes for a speedy recovery are being sent her way. Trish

Oh Martha, I was so saddened to read this. I have always thought that your mother was amazing for her age. Recovering from a stroke is a long and challenging process (my father had one almost seven years ago) and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sad to hear this news of your mother. With timely care her prognosis is good, but recovery can take time. So saying, a favorite quote of mine to focus on at such a time is by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Adopt the pace of nature: Her secret is patience."
Prayers for your mother and the family are lovingly sent your way.
