Martha,
I'm deeply sadden about the passing of Big Martha; she will be deeply missed. Over the years you had brought her into our homes, I thank you for that. You can tell she was a strong loving woman.

Martha, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I was shocked to read of the passing of your dear mother. I first "met" your mother via your television show one Christmas over a decade ago. Big Martha was demonstrating her baking skills in your East Hampton kitchen. I couldn't believe this tiny woman had so much muscle to manipulate that huge ball of dough with ease and dexterity. Quite impressive! Once again, please accept my deepest condolences at this very painful time.

Oh No! I'm so sorry Martha. My heart aches for you right now. I just came on the blog tonight after I put the kids to bed to see an update and then I saw your note. :( She had an amazing long life and I know you learned so much from her. I enjoyed every time you had her on your shows from the very beginning and laughed at the times you joked on the Set. I know we will never forget her and the amazing work she did. God Bless you and many sympathies for you. I'm so sorry.

I have been watching you on television for many years and have always enjoyed the segments that included your Mother she had a great laugh and smile. She seemed very proud of all your success. I lost my mother several years ago and would watch the two of you interact with a big smile on my face and a bit a jelousy since I no longer had that with my own mother. I will not tell you that time will heal your heart. The truth is a part of your heart will always be empty. The love you shared will always be with you. I am so thankful to have been able to have a glimpse of your relationship on television. God bless you and your family.

Sorry to hear this news Martha. My mother, Mary, has been a long time fan/subscriber of yours and has always enjoyed appearances by your mother. I am sorry to hear the news because of the sadness brought to you, someone that has brought joy to my mother, but also because of the end of your wonderful mother's life. My mother will miss her visits to your show.
My observations of you lead me to believe that the sadness will be overpowered by the joy that comes from celebrating your mother's life and all that she was about.
Best regards,

Dear Martha,
I'm saddened to hear of you and your family's deep loss.
Whenever I met Big Martha, mostly while shooting in your homes, she was always so fascinating. In some ways she reminded me of my own grandmother, she was wise. I remember once while shooting at Turkey Hill she stopped by to return a plastic food container she had that belonged to your kitchen. I thought it was so sweet, so industrious and thoughtful to be returning something most of us would throw away or never expect to be returned. She had a great sense of value and didnt seem like the type of person who ever took things for granted.
Another memory I have is of her sitting at the desk in the library of Turkey Hill writing to her "fans". When we asked her what she was up to she explained how important it was for her to respond to her fans, and how important letter writing was as an art. She inspired me to write letters to my grandparents that night, something I realized I hadn't done in too long.
Big Martha was a great inspiration. She was a person who lived, worked and matured gracefully, with great dignity, wisdom and sense of independence.
Celebrating her many years of giving reminds us all how much she will be missed.
Breathe, reflect and let us know how youre doing.

My thoughts have been with you every since we learned of her illness this fall. Her faith will be a comfort to you in the coming months, as will the fact that she did not linger during a long period of illness, but rested comfortably and surrounded by family and love. Dearest Martha,
It is with great sadness that I heard about the loss of your beloved mother. I always enjoyed seeing the two of you on your various shows and the bond you two had was always quite evident.
I am so happy that "Mom" was able to enjoy not just a long life but a life full of quality also. She lived it to the fullest and each day was a wonderfull gift that she was able to share with her loved ones. These "gifts" will always be with you as you remember times spent together and they will help you in the days to come.

Dear Martha,
I cannot tell you how shocked I was to learn of Big Martha's passing. And I know her passing has left a huge hole in your life - particularly at this generally joyous time of the year this will be a terrible loss to somehow absorb, a time I'm sure she loved and enjoyed greatly with you and your daughter. But the two of you are both, in the spirit of your mother, strong, independent and creative women and you will, in the spirit of Big Martha, square your chins and stand tall, as she would have wanted you to. But it will be hard, O, I know it will be very difficult. Please know that there are many, many people who are thinking of you in this difficult time. May the Lord hold you close to his heart and help you find the strength to go on.

Martha,
My sympathy goes out to you and your family. I wanted to share with you a quote from Aeschylus' Agamemnon that has helped me through grief.
And even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despite, against our will,
comes wisdom through the awful grace of God.

I am so glad you had your Mom on your television show over the years, just think what a great pictorial family history is preserved for all her grandchildren and future great grandchildren to enjoy one day who can say they have home movies such as these! It was fun to have been able to speak with Mrs.K on your Ask Martha's Mother's Day radio special this past May. Aren't you happy that you did this and she was such a natural, her love for radio coming through?(another keepsake is the audio tape from this radio show) She was having a blast answering all those questions. Who could have imagined if you had ended up Diane Helen Kostyra . It very well could have been so had your grandma had her way and not your Mother! Can you just picture Diane Stewart Living & Diane Stewart Collection at Marcy's? I can't think of you as anyone but Martha.
Did the family know her dream at one time was to have been a ballroom dancer? Maybe she is dancing now in heaven with your Dad?
I can just hear her laughing & talking about that play she had just went to with her friends, THE FULL MONTY she was telling us all about it on the radio I couldn't stop laughing she was so tickled about it and you acted so "shocked" she was a hoot you know.
She suffers no more & you were so lucky to have her in your life for 66 years. God gave you the gift of extra time you were able to return from Japan and spend a few more precious days with your Mom a very special gift Martha.
I think she is having a wonderful reunion in heaven about now.
Please take care ma'am.

I only found out this morning but I knew. I get feelings and they kept me awake all last night; I just couldn't face getting online to find out for sure.
I am so sorry but at the same time, I am happy that she will not be suffering. She knew what she wanted at the end and you obeyed her wishes. Never regret that. I never thought someone else's mother would have this effect on me but I felt like I knew big Martha. Thanks for having her on your show and allowing us to get to know her; she was a delightful woman and you were lucky to have just a wonderful mom. I am missing her already. Dear Martha
Can´t find the "right" words to say to you. I know the feeling and there´s no consolation in these moments. But the love that others show to us is very welcoming, and we somehow feel that our dearest ones will never die.
From Portugal and with all my love, my toughts are with you and all your family.
God bless you.

Dear Martha,
Your mother was always a joy to watch...I remember her helping you on your 'old' show and I always thought she was so warm, kind, strong and fun. How lucky you are to have had her joy in your life for so long! I am so very sorry for her passing. I know how it is to loose your mother. May your memories bring you comfort as you grieve at this time. God bless you, your daughter and family. May your beautiful mother rest in peace.

Dear Ms. Sewart,
When I heard of your loss I was taken back. I am very sorry and offer my best wishes during this hard time, so close to the holidays. Your mother reminded me so very much of my grandmother and the way they taught us how to make a good home. I will keep you in my thoughts. Keep your head up.
Sincerely,

Dear Martha,
My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Over the years, my Polish grandmother and I have truly enjoyed watching you cook with your mother. Each segment brought about new discussions of our heritage, culture and traditions. Together, the two of you helped us hold onto these aspects of our lives in a rapidly changing world. You and your family will be in our prayers.
All best,
Rebecca

I was so, so sorry to hear about your mother. My mother died many years ago at a young age, you can be thankful that you had your mother as part of your life for so many years. She will live in your heart forever, as mine does.
