Overwhelmed with Kind Words and Lovely Thoughts...

Martha Kostyra's entire family and I have been overwhelmed with your kind words and lovely thoughts. We have received thousands of beautiful comments and we will try to post each and every one of them. But the fact that some are not listed yet is only because my family and I are trying to catch up!

My mother would be so thrilled to know that you are all thinking of her in such a positive and thoughtful manner.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Martha

Can you believe how trim and gorgeous Mother was in her bathing costume in the 1940's? This after four children.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I envy the close rapport you had with your mom. Unfortunately I do not have such a relationship with my mother. I too learned a lot from my mother because it is who I am today. I honestly can say I have never watched your show because of my work schedule. This is the first time ever I have ever gone onto your website to find out for the first time of your mother and saddened to see she passed away. At least you and your mom had a great relationship who inspired you and you were able to share that inspiration with the rest of the world. Applauso. You are truly a lucky woman to have had such a mother. Sincerely, from The Bronx.

What an extraordinary woman!
Such intelligence, energy, loyalty and love.
Thank you for making aging so beautiful.
Sandra Lord

Our heart felt wishes go out to you and your family during this time of sorrow. You both were a joy to watch working together. Know that you are being thought of.
With Sympathy.. Trisha and Family

Martha,
I am so sorry to hear about your lost. Your mother was such a pleasure to watch on your show. Please know that you and your family are in the thoughts and prayers of many people. Thank you for sharing your family with us.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Having recently lost a parent that was very close to me, I understand the sadness you are experiencing. She was an amazing woman, you were lucky to have had her in your life. You will have treasured memories to comfort you and that is a blessing.

Dear Martha

My thoughts are with you and Alexis, your brothers and sisters, and their families. Like so many, I eagerly anticipated and completely enjoyed the occasions your mother appeared on your television shows and in the magazines. She was so youthful, energetic, charming, witty, and (what I liked best) no nonsense. A great combination of characteristics.

I am one of the lucky ones who, at 54 years old, still has an active, youthful 80 year old mother whom I adore. I cannot imagine the hole in my heart that will appear when she is no longer with me. No matter how long she lives, not to have her will feel as devastating as if she had been struck down in her prime. So my still-whole heart extends its deepest sympathies to your newly bereft one.

My fondest regards to you and your extended family

What a wonderful photo. My thoughts are with you and your family and friends. Sending a hug during this difficult time..."Big" Martha will missed.

You and your family are in our hearts and prayers. I can only imagine how difficult a time this is for you all. Someone once told me a lovely saying to help with grieving. "God gave us memories so we could have roses in winter."

What a beautiful tribute to your Mother, Martha! I did something like that when my Mother passed away last year. I know what you're going through right now and just know that the Happy Memories are important, so keep them close to your heart.
Kindest Regards,
Becky Federico

My deepest condolences. It was obvious how much your mother was loved. My parents died within 6 months of each other and I think of them every day. You are blessed that your mom was with it to the end.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mother 3 years ago and it was the hardest thing I have ever gone thru. Harder than a divorce. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Martha, Know that she loved you and still does. You've put together a beautiful tribute and I'm sure she's proud of you. I'm sending you cyber Heartfelt Hugs and Positive Thoughts.
Kindest regards,
Becky Federico

Dear Martha:
I am sorry to learn about your loss. I had a dream last night I was on your show you had apple and pamagranite in a big bucket half full of water. after the show was over all of the apples were picked only 2 apples were left in the bucket. you tried to pick one and I tried to pick up the other and was offering you the one I picked which looked a little better.
I was shocked to find this news on your site. Please accept my hearth felt sorrow. With regard Mary

Oh, the laugh! I can hear it now. And I'll continue to hear it each time I watch little Martha's show. So glad you inherited that wonderful trait as well as many others.

Bless you Big Martha.

A big kiss in your heart!

A big kiss in your heart!

Martha and family,

Cling not to the loss felt by
her passing, but rather embrace
the joy her life brought.

Wow!!
That is an awesome photo of your Mom! She looked fantastic and in great shape!
She was quite the Cosmo woman of her time! Thank you for sharing!
Best regards,

We are so sorry to hear about your sweet mother. Your love and closeness to her was very evident in the loving way you spoke of her. Thank you for sharing your mother with us and showing us how to love, respect, and honor our moms. Surely she is now enjoying the wonderful place the Lord has prepared for her.

It was always a pleasure to watch you and your mother interact. Our senior citizens are truly a gift and I am glad you shared her with us. I too try to spend as much time with my mother as possible and enjoy every minute. Good luck to you and your family in those difficult days ahead.

Dear Martha, we R very sorry to hear about your Mom, we have seen her on your show and enjoy it a lot. I grew up in laSalle, Illinois with many Slovenian and Polish friends, and have eaten most of the things U 2 make on your show. We will miss seeing her and she will be in our prayers. Joe and Mary Jakse

Dear Martha,
Tears fill my eyes as my heart is sadden and goes out to you at the passing of your mother. The love you have for her is shown on your face and in your heart every time you speak of her. I am so very sorry for you at this time.
My bed ridden mom of 84 and I watch your show daily and I say "oh look mom there is Martha's mom." My mother smiles to see you two together. I know you are thought of fondly in many hearts, mine is one of them. May you too be blessed with as many wonderful years as your mother. Again, I am truly sorry for your great loss.

I am so sorry for your loss Martha. It was easy to see how close you were to your mother.I too was close to mine. We are very lucky to have had such wonderful moms but I think it makes our loss even harder. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you.
Danille

Please accept my heartfelt condolences during your time of bittersweet rememberance. While it is probably difficult to imagine now, wonderful memories will become the final chapter of a life well spent. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your mother. She always gave the TV show personal hint or two about the way she made things in her day.
She made it very interesting.
She seemed like a very, very nice lady. My heart goes out to the family as well, it's hard to lose a Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother all at once.

Dear Martha,You're mother looks so young and beautiful in the picture.I'll bet the thing she was most proud of in her life was you.She seemed like a wonderful mother and my heart goes out to you.

She was such a joy to watch and an inspiration to many. I will bake a dessert tonight in her honor.

Dear Martha and family...You are all in my thoughts and prayers. What a dynamic woman she was. My own Mother is 83, and she is my best friend. We loved to see your Mom on the show, and we are always so interested when she would cook a Polish dish. My Dad was Polish, he has been gone 3 years, and I miss him more and more each day. But what lovely memories we have, as I know you and your family have....Martha, God bless you and your family.

Dear Martha,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely mother, Martha. She was inspirational to say the least as you are. I hope sharing memories and being with your family will comfort you. I always look forward to watching your tv show which was a special treat when your mom was on too. I am sure your tv viewers will always have a special place in their hearts for Martha and all the "good things" she represented. May her memory be a blessing. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. Love, Lois

Dear Martha what is there to say at a time like this but to let you know that your mother lives on in our hearts as well as yours. I always loved watching when your mother was on your shows and I cannot spell them but the kruschiki's I think were one of my favorite cookies I learned to make from watching her I have my own pierogi recipe but I enjoyed hers as well. Not much more to say but I hope you and your family know that we have loved every minute with you and your mother. Joe Geppert

Dear Martha what can a person say at a time like this but to let you know that the spirit of your mother lives on in so many of us for her whit and charm when she appeared with you on your shows. I am not good at spelling but my favorite had to be the Christmas cookies Kruschickis or something like that. I always enjoyed how she was the one person who appeared to tell you how to do things. Joe

Dear Martha and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. What an elegant and classy women. I loved when she was on your show you too had quite a connection. You have an angel from above watching down on you.

Hi Martha

My name is Darrell White and I am writing to you from Toronto. I was just going through some of your paint colour collection and then came into the TV room to watch the annual Santa Claus Parade that Toronto has every year. I turned on the TV and it mentioned your Mother's passing.

I am so sorry to hear this. I'm 35 years old now and my mom passed away 3 years ago when I was 32. You are so lucky to have had your mom for so much of your life. The wonderful thing is that she will live through you now.

Whenever I need to come back to basics I go to a very interesting website called, www.TheInterviewWithGod.com . If you click on the presentation link (make sure you have the volume turned on) it is a wonderful reminder to recount the most important things in life.

She is adorable in this picture, and everytime you shared her with us. Again I want to let you know that I am keeping you and your entire family in my thoughts at this time. My great grandmother lived to be 103 and alot of people say that we are so lucky to have our loved ones live so long, but I can say it does not make it any easier and I would give ANYTHING in the world to have even one more hour with her. Lots of Love to you Martha.....

Dear Martha:
I was so saddened when I read in today's LA Times about your mothers passing. Throughout the years I have enjoyed Big Martha's segments on your show. It was clear that you and your mom had a very special relationship.
My heart and deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. Rest assured there are millions of viewers out here that feel the same way.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I always enjoyed seeing your mother with you and she made a fabulous meatloaf. My own mother is very seriously ill and I know I will miss her. Take care

Martha, I don’t know you or your mother personally but over the years I have watched the two of you work together, laugh, play, cook and craft. She was my favorite guest on your show. And thank you for sharing that with us. What an inspiring example of a mother daughter team, and such a beautiful thing it was to see the two of you connect so well. Growing from birth, adult hood, and now the final step in life. She can continue onto the next step and bring cheer to those in the after life. Like she did so well here for us all. May your heart be at ease and may your mom now rest in peace. My best goes to you and your family at this time of passing. A sincere hug.
Chris

Dear Martha,

I would like to extend my condolences to you and your family on the passing of "big Martha".
You are in my prayers as you face this most difficult time.

Martha,
Our family always loved watching your show when your beautiful mother and you would cook together. She reminded me so much of my grandmother who taught me how to cook, very well I might add. I lost my mother at a very young age, so losing a mother, that identity that we as daughters have because of them, is a really awkward feeling. You had her for 93 years, what a blessing, great memories and always supportive of you. Please accept our condolenscences and hearfelt prayers.

My mother passed away on Pearl Harbor day almost five years ago. There will be days when you pick up the phone to call your mom or are out shopping and start to buy something for her only to remember that she has moved on. You will cherish every moment you were able to spend with your mom, and I thank you for sharing some of those moments with us. She projected such a sense of joy in life that reminded me so much of my own mother.

Martha your Mom had a long and interesting life, I wish you had made that cook book together with all the family stories to go with each recipe and photos what a legacy that would have been to pass along to not only her family but her fans and yes she had fans too!
Martha beauty begins on the inside if you don't have that who cares about the outside your Mom had both~
Love & smiles sent your way.

I just read about your mother this afternoon and was saddened . My mom & dad also died in November although we celebrate thanksgivig with joy & many memories.
My deepest sympathy to you & your family.
Terry

I'm so so sorry to hear of your beloved mother's passing. I was so stunned to read the news on your blog yesterday, as she always seemed to young and vibrant!

I was at your show in September with Tim Gunn (remember me? asked the stupid pizza dough question because I was so nervous to talk to you!) and one of the things that struck me was the beautiful large photo you have of your mother holding you when you were a toddler (where guests enter the studio). Then next to that, you have the photo of you holding Alexis when she was a baby (and might I say WOW! You looked EXACTLY like she does now in that photo!). You really got the sense of what a loved and respected matriarch Big Martha was. As a daily viewer of your show, I will truly miss seeing her on your show. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you for sharing your mother with so many of us...she will be missed.

Martha, saw on my msn newspage the news about your Mom this morning. Very sorry for you/your family. Her appearances on your show were a lot of fun. Enjoyed her sense of humor. I know from personal experience and talking with others, that regardless of how old we get...the loss of our Moms is one of the saddest things in life to get through. Hang in there.

Dear Martha,
The death of a Mother leaves a hole in the heart of a daughter. I lost my mother two years ago and I grieve with you today. God Bless you and your family.

I always looked forward to seeing your mother on your shows, Martha. I just loved her and she inspired me just as much as you have over the years. What a blessing to have had a wonderful mother such as that! What a gift! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. My mom passed away 10 years ago, she would be just about your mother's age were she still alive. My mom was not only my mother, she was my mentor and my friend, as your mom seemed to be to you. My husband and I always thought some of your best shows were the one's when your mom was on with you. Her good humor and no nonsense attitude were wonderful to see. I know how much you will miss her, I still miss my mom, every single day, so I will pass on to you my mother's own blessing..."May God keep his arms around you and keep you safe and well." Melissa Quinn

Dear Martha,
My mother died just a year ago at the age of 93. (Still in her prime, as yours was!) We are never ready to let them go! My prayers and empathy are with you. I too was blessed to have so many positive years with an elegant, funny, lively woman. Now, I'm trying to capture HER stories, in HER words and photographs about her life as a holiday present for my two daughters.
In the coming months, as your loss resurfaces, and is tempered by time, I wish you happiness and joy. The sweet memories become richer and I hope they bring you comfort.

Louanne

Martha and family, I am so sorry to hear about your Mother.I am 51 years old and still blessed to have my 91 year Grandmother in my life. She is such a blessing as I know your Mother was to you.I know because of you and your family she had the best life.I could tell how much love you had for her.May your faith in God get you through this sad time in your life.Family is everything.God bless you and yours. You all will be in my prayers. Love and good thoughts from Connie Crook in Kansas City, MO

I am so glad that you have your Blog up and running. It gives those of us who would not otherwise have an opportunity to communicate with you. You and your family have been a part of all of our lives for so many years now it is great that this blog is a vehicle for you to know just how many people care about all of you. It's a good thing!
P.S. The photo of your Mom is amazing.

i was so distraught when i picked up my sunday paper and saw the death of your mother, i always enjoyed her when she was on your show. i know it is hard to lose a loved one but it is especially hard during this time of year, it sounded as if she led a full life and enjoyed you as her daughter, that should ease your pain somewhat , all the best to you and i admire you so much , sincerally rex bowman

Martha,

My deepest condolences goes out to you and your family, You all will be in my prayers.
The times I saw you and your mother, you could see how much both of you cared for each other and how well you both complemented one another. Just be happy to know that as well making a difference in your family, your mom made a difference to all the people that got to share her joy of life whenever you had her on you
show.

I am sure she is looking down and smiling at you.

I'm sure she was your biggest fan.
Now she's the wind beneath your wings.....
Thinking of you all this week.

Marsha,
or as my friends call me "Marsha Stewart"

Dearest Martha,
It is with deepest sympathy to you and your family that I post these condolences regarding your dear mom (Big Martha). I have subscribed to your magazine from the first issue and also have watched your show faithfully. I loved the interaction between you and your mom so much. She looked so proud of you in the audience (and well she should) and I always admired how well-dressed she was and also that lovely smile. I, as a fan, felt she was our mother, too, and know that she will give you continuing strength, guidance and love forever and for all time. I also wish to extend my sympathy to your daughter, Alexis. It's tough to lose a wonderful grandma. Martha, I will light a candle and say a Rosary for your mom and please know that your fans and friends all over the world are mourning mom's psssing. Illness prevented me from seeing you last year (surgery followed), but I am determined to meet you and express my thoughts when I see you in person. All my love to you. Take each day at a time. It's alright to feel blue.

Lillian from Waretown, NJ

Dear Martha,

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I hope your memories of your mom will give you comfort during this sad time of your life. I lost my mom 2 years ago on December 3rd, I think of her every day. Thinking of you with sincerety,

Teri E., Olympia, WA

Martha,
I'm so sorry about your lovely mother and even more apologetic about the situation that happend last night. What I did was very uncalled for and disgusting. There circumstances that put me in state I was in last ie drinking since 10am, but that is no excuse. I don't look down on you for what you did. There is no reason to keep bad people in your life and I know I'm bad news. You will continue to be a inspiration from a distence.
Still a loyal fan and very sorry, respectfully,
Keith J. Kolkow
May your life be contiually blessed and may your mother rest in eternal peace.

I have so enjoyed getting to know your mother over these many years. I truly felt stunned to read of your loss today. I felt I had lost a family member of my own. Please know that you & your family will be in my thoughts & prayers.

Laurie

I a big fan of you Martha and saddened by the loss of your mother. There is nothing like the loss of a mother that leaves a space in our lives, but the memories will last and endure forever. You were a great daughter to her and it showed.

Phil from Atlanta

Please know my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this most difficult time. I've always enjoyed your television shows and particularly the ones when your mother appeared. Thank you for sharing her with your fans throughout the years. We will all miss her.

Dear Martha,
My heart breaks for you and your family. We always looked forward to seeing "Big Martha" on your show --such an adorable woman! (I still love her babka best of every recipe I've ever tried.)
Here's a little poem just for her...

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

From our house to yours, we will keep all of you in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Barbara Piccola

Martha and family,
Heaven has a new jewel up there! I was so saddened to read that she had a stroke and now her passing. I've always enjoyed the shows she was one, she was your best mentor. My mother passed away a few years ago and when I would see big & little Martha together it would remind me of me & my mom....good memories! What a great memories you and your family have with all the tapes you have, you're so lucky to have them.

Your mom looked so young for being 93 years old, what a beautiful lady inside and out!

My deepest condolences,

Dear Martha,

Thank you for sharing your mom, Big Martha, with us. Prior to learning of her passing, I'd just watched your Thanksgiving special and got to see her teach you to make cabbage pierogi. I have always enjoyed seeing her on your show. My favorite memory of her is when she had a "question" about Patti LaBelle's nails. I have never been so tickled!

Wishing you comfort and joy in the memories of your mom.

LaShawn Maye

Please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss of your mother. My prayers are with you and your family in this time of great loss.

Dear Martha,
I was deeply hurt when I saw that your mother has passed. I know you will miss her, but her memories will live for ever. Please just remember the good times, and be thankful you had a mother that trusted and had strong faith in you. We will miss her also. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
Love from Punta Gorda, Fl

I am sorry for your loss, Martha, even though we know we will lose our mothers someday, it is such a shock when they are gone. No one loves us like our moms...our world is never the same without them. You can take great comfort in the close and wonderful relationship you, both, shared. Smile every time you think of her.

Dear Martha,

Big Martha always was a pleasure to see on your show. She was a lovely woman with old world manners and values. You were so lucky to have that in your mother. She was a mom to be proud of and how wonderful for her that she could be proud of you and see your success.

My sympathy to you and your family.

I was so saddened to hear of the death of your mother. I enjoyed watching her appearances on your shows and how much you enjoyed each other. It must be such a comfort to you to have so many moments with your mom on film to see again and again.

Martha and family,
I just had to leave a note saying how sorry I am for the loss of your mom. I always enjoyed the segments you did together on your shows. She seemed like a very beautiful and strong lady...I loved the fact you were close to her and she had contributed so much into you becoming who you are.
I adore all things Martha Stewart...and I know your mom was a huge part of all you have been and given to the worl.
God bless you and comfort you.
What a beautiful long life she had.
I know she will be missed and remembered and honored the rest of your lives.
Thank you for sharing this lovely woman with us.
I sent up a prayer for you and yours today.
Love, Lynn

Dear Martha,
I am deeply saddened to hear that your mom passed away. She was one in a million and I so enjoyed watching her on your shows.
Every Xmas Eve I think of your mom as I dig out her recipe for pierogi dough. It is the best recipe and it is so easy to work with the dough and these are the best pierogies I have ever made.

My heart goes out to you and your family and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
She was a very lovable person and my mom and I always looked forward to watching her on your show.
Please take care of yourself and remember that she is always with you and one day you will be together again forever.
Patty

I enjoyed your recent show with Big Martha in the audience with her sister. She looked wonderful and I'm sure had a wonderful life and was very proud of you. I lost my mom just a little over one year ago to cancer. She was diagnosed in February and died in October at the age of 69. I know Thanksgiving this year will be a sad one for you.

I have so enjoyed seeing your mother all of these years on your show. She will truly be missed but always in our hearts as we use, each day, the recipes she shared with us. I think of her every time I prepare piroshky because it was she who taught me how to make it.
Thank you for sharing your special relationship to her, with all of us.

Dear Martha,
Sorry for your Mother's passing;through, the years i have always loved watching you and her interacting. Hopefully, now you can convince your daughter; to do, the same. Your Family are in my prayers.

Oh, how I will miss her smile when she was on your show. She was such a delight and I only wish you had her on more. I hopefully wish you would do a show dedicated to her as I'm not sure you know how much she was loved. I, for one am deeply saddened and was hoping she could reach 100. All the best to you and your family in this time of sorrow. Her memory lives on in her children and that's " A Good Thing". Love, Linda

Dear Martha and Family,

Please know that our sincere condolence comes with this email. My mother and I also lost a loved one near the Thanksgiving holiday so we understand.

I pray the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob gives you peace and comfort through this time of sorrow.

Jesus said in John 14: 1 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

A beautiful woman, who changed the world with her knowledge, beauty, and grace.

I remember enjoying the shows where Big Martha appeared with MS. I am sure she lived a full life and was immensely proud of her children. May she rest in peace and may consolation come to Martha Stewart and all of Big Martha's extended family. She will be remembered fondly.

My condolences to the whole family. I am the youngest daughter of the Will family that grew up across the street at #75 from the Koystra family on Elm Place. "Big Martha" and I would see each other on various occasions years later and she was always so pleasant and shared stories with me about my family. She and her husband always spoke with such pride about their children and grandchildren. They raised a nice family. Her smile and input into her daughter's cooking was fun to watch. I have recorded many of these shows.

I loved your mom's hands. When she needed the stollens on your show years ago I will always remember that strength those hands showed. If I remember she took over and showed you how. Something like that. Humor. Love. Living a good life...She was all about it....my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

I only saw your Mom on TV a few times, but each occasion, I just loved everything about her. She was a real personality. You are very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in your life. She will be with you always, in spirit.

I am very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Martha, I cried when I heard the news of your mother's passing. I always enjoyed seeing her on your show and thought of my own mother at the time. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

You're mother was a true lady. I always loved seeing her on your show. She embodied what a "mom" is. She looks lovely in that picture! Praying for your family. Amber

So sorry for your loss Martha. Your mother was a wonderful person and I always enjoyed seeing her on your show. It was apparent that she had a great influence on how you grew to be such a kind and wonderful person yourself...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.....she will be missed by everyone.

Dear Martha,

I imagine there are some burdensome aspects about being a celebrity and sharing your life with others. I hope though, that you know that you have so many people who love you, believe in what you believe, and although we have never met you, consider you among our friends. My prayers are with you and your family right now. Your mom will be missed.

Thank God for photography! We can look back on ourselves w/the maturity of wisdom and self esteem life (hopefully) imbibes. I'm so sorry for your loss and the long Goodbye. An upper case 'G' is used for this word because it is a conjunction of 'God be with you' something very few people realize, but how comforting to know the sad word has such a beautiful meaning.

Martha Kostyra was knock out gorgeous. There is that spark to the eye, joy in her smile and stand up straight dare to the world to make her blink.
Great woman.

Your dear Mother Martha Kostyra reminded me so much of my own Polish Mother, Sophia Martha, who died at the age of 90. These ladies were dedicated mothers and homekeepers who shared their legacies of making a real home with their daughters. I so looked forward to seeing your Mother on your special show each year, Martha, a treat I will truly miss. I hope that her passing was peaceful. Her spirit will live on in you and the amazing family she left here on earth. Peace and love to you from our family to yours. Jennifer

I share your sorrow. My sweet Moma passed away Nov.13th after a courageous and lenghty battle with lung cancer. My Mom told me once, "when you loose your mother, you loose your best friend." It is so true. God Bless....

I just wanted you and your family to know how sorry I am about your Mother. I saw her a few times on our show and she seemed like a very very sweet person and very smart. May God be with you and your family through this sad time.

Dearest Martha, I lost my beautiful Mother at age 90, and understand what you and your family are feeling at this time. Big Martha brought me so much joy, and I loved watching her while you were both in the kitchen, just busy as bees. I will always be grateful to her for encouraging you to become the person you are today. We have all benefited from her knowledge and great care.

Dear Martha

I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. Thank you for sharing your mother with all of us who have watched your show & read your books & magazine over the years. I lost my own mother back in 1991 when I was only 27. 4 years later when I was first married my husband asked me to make him meatloaf & I said to him how I wished I had asked my mother for her recipe before she had died because I had no idea how to make it. That was when I discovered your mom's recipe & now her meatloaf is my meatloaf. Thanks!!

My prayers during this difficult time. I know her love & your memories will guide you always.

Dear Martha and family,

May I offer my sincere sympathy at the loss of your amazing mother, Big Martha. Her delightful personality and considerable talent will be greatly missed. My own mother was not able to teach my sister and me much about the art of homekeeping due to her life-long battle with mental illness. Your dear mother touched our lives indirectly as we both turned to you for instruction and inspiration in all things domestic. Please know that I will keep you and your family in my prayers. We will raise a glass at Thanksgiving in honor of her well-lived life.

Sincerely,

I'm so sadden to hear of the passing of your mother. I loved watching her as she helped you make some of her favorite recipes on the show. Dear Martha and family, The quality of woman that you are is a reflection of the quality of woman that your mother was. What a joy to have had a wonderful mother for so many years! It should be a comfort to know that she is gone but for a brief time, and that you will have eternity with her someday. My deepest condolences, Mary Jo

Hi Martha,

I love all of your posts and I am continuing to wish you all the warm thoughts in the world during this difficult time. Your mother was truly a lovely woman - so knowledgeable, strong, quick and witty. I loved watching the two of you interact with each other over the years and am overwhelmed with sadness for you all.

If there is a charity that you think Big Martha would want to be donated to in her name, what would it be for those of us who wish to pay our thanks to such a wonderful spirit?

Love, Sarah

Martha, Im so sorry for your loss. I was always impressed with how spry and mentally acute your mother was. I know you will miss her a lot. May God bless you and all your family and give you the strength to make it through this upcoming holiday season without the matriarch of your family! Sincerely, Gloria

I recently returned from a 14 month deployment to Iraq. While I was there, my mother sent me a big box of Living Magazines that she had purchased at the local library used book store. I spent a great deal of my free time in Iraq poring over the articles and cutting out recipes. I came home with hundreds of them and have been cooking up a storm ever since. I can't describe the pleasure I felt looking at the gorgeous pictures and reading through the recipes while in the stark and foreboding sands of Iraq. It was a true mental getaway.

I've felt a great deal of gratitude to you ever since and was very sad to hear about the loss of your mother. She and you feel more real to me than most things I read about in the media because of the service you did for me. My most sincere condolences.

Martha and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the death of your Mom. How wonderful you had Martha for so many years and her love.

I pray God gives you peace and helps your grief to be bearable. Please take a little comfort in knowing we all love you and feel sadness for what you are going through. I am just so sorry.

She looks phenomenal! I hope I can say the same after having my children.

Dear Martha,

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother. I feel in many ways like it was you and your Mother who taught me to value the beauty in the everyday--from the time I began to watch you every Saturday morning at age 13. It was such a pleasure to watch the two of you together and see how you loved each another with affection, admiration and humor. We were all lucky to have Big Martha with us for so many years to impart her pragmatic zeal for life into our own. Thank you to Big Martha for blessing us with the Martha we know and love.
Thinking of you both.

Martha, please accept my deepest sympathy at the passing of your mom, Big Martha. Thank you for sharing her with us, your viewers. I really learned so much from her, like adding a little sour cream to pierogi dough. Even though it was your show, when she was on she really was the STAR. I will never forget her or her hands. Hands that made dough do exactly what she wanted it to. Remember the strudel dough episode... God Bless you and your family as you mourn her passing, yet celebrate her wonderful life.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom-she had such a sparkle about her whenever i saw her with you and on your show...my mom is 89 and I thank God everyday that I still have her with me...God bless and take care-she is in better place..

What a great photo. I am so sorry for the loss of Martha--and I send my sincere condolences to her family. Big Martha will be so missed this year as Martha continues her holiday shows as she was always my favorite guest during the holidays. Martha was one in a very small group of real life moms of celebrities who became stars in their own right. God Speed Big Martha.

Of all the recipes I've ever tried, your mother's meat loaf has always been one of my favorites. Unlike many others, I've never tried to pass it off as my own creation. It has always been presented at my table as "Martha Kostyra's meat loaf". Coincidentally, I had planned to make it this week. My husband and I will enjoy it in her honor. Wishing your family peace and solace, knowing what a wonderful and long life she led. We will keep her in our thoughts this Thanksgiving.

Today, we made 'Big Martha's' meat loaf in her honor--I know you must all be sharing so many great stories and memories of her. My grandmother died at 75, and Martha always reminded me of her in many ways, and I liked to think Grandma would have been the same sharp, spunky lady into her 90's had she made it. I suspect 'Big Martha' was a grandma in spirit to many--may she rest in peace, and may you all take great comfort in each other and in the wonderful memories.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. My mother too was born in 1914 (she died in 1951) so I always felt a special bond and enjoyed seeing your Mom on your shows. She was so very special and you will miss her terribly. When the pain is bad remember that your Mother will always be with you in your heart.

Martha,
I am so sorry to hear of your mom''s passing. I enjoyed every moment she was on the show. Such an inspiration and a bundle of energy and wit. It was especially sweet to see mother and daughter together learning and sharing.
My mother passed a young 56 years old. I am glad that you were able to enjoy many more years with your mom. My grandmother was my inspiration for cooking and all things crafty and artistic, and she passed in 1990 (my mom in "96). I am warmly reminded every time I cook something from one of her "retro" recipes of her spirit and the pleasure she took in keeping her home. I am sure you will never run short of wonderful memories of your inspirational and loving mother.
Be well, Donna Kaminski

Dear Martha: I have always enjoyed your shows and it was obvious you are a reflection of your mother's amazing cooking and domestic talents. I cherished my mother and know this loss will be very sad for you. Keep forging ahead and in that way your mother's memory will be kept alive. What a blessing to have had her with you for 93 years.
Best wishes - Eloise

I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Seeing the two of you together was just wonderful.
She seemed so indomitable I thought she'd probably live to 150!
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you throughout this trying time.

Ms. Stewart I am very sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I will pray for you and your family. Thank You so very much for letting us share in the joy of knowing your Mother

i was just thinking about her, and the round of her annual housekeeping chores, and the calendar you used to have in the magazine -- do you still? -- and how comforting such a routine is, when i heard of her death.

i am very sorry for your loss. but you know the light she imparted really has had an enormous reach. i hope you will some day write more about her life and polish heritage.

Matha, My 93 year old Mother passed away July 29 of this year. The best Mother's Day ever was this year when I took her to lunch and spent the entire time talking about her Mother whom I had never met. There has not been a morning since July 29 that I have not awaken and thought of my Mother. I morn with your loss.

Dear Martha,
My sister Debbie and I just recently lost our mother on Sept. 16th. She was the same age as your mother. No matter how old a loved one is, it is so hard to lose them. We feel the hurt that you feel and pray that you get comfort from your loving family and friends.
In sisterly love,
Joyce

Dear Martha,

I always thought your mother was such a charming lady. It was great fun to watch the two of you in the kitchen. Thank you for having her on your show and sharing her with us. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!!

Martha, Alexis, and family,

My sympathy to you all - especially with your loss at holiday time.
I too have lost my dear mother - and I know the loss you will feel. She will always be in your heart.

Big Martha was fun to watch interact with you all these years on your shows - thank you for sharing her with us. I will miss her on your holiday shows, and remember her at the same time.

My deepest condolences to the Stewart Family. I always admired your Mom whenever she was on the show. May her soul Rest In Peace....

Such a wonderful person; from your stories, which were such a joy to listen to, to watching her cook on your shows, while telling stories, she will truly be missed on the airways by everyone, and in our hearts, our deepest sympathies are with you and your family.

I just wanted to extend my condolences on the loss of your mother. She was my 5th grade teacher at Lincoln School in Nutley in the early 60's. She was a tough teacher but in a good way...the kind that you learn from. It's funny, to this day I remember her great laugh. Teachers that make a difference live on forever. I hope that knowing this is helpful as your family copes with the loss of your mother.

Your Mother was such an inspiration and I will always remember her tips encircled by her humor. I have so many photos of my Mother posing on the banks of the Columbia River in her similar "bathing costume" in the 30's, and 40's. She also is gone, so this picture struck a cord. You gave your Mother a beautiful gift of honoring her oral history while she was living. And as you did this you gifted all of us. My sympathy, Arvy Carney

Dearest Martha,

I am very sad to hear about the passing of your mother. I always enjoyed seeing her on the show. She was and is a beautiful woman and seemed to shine with love for her family.

Losing my mother at the age of 56 was devastating, but I know the love she left behind will never end. Getting through it was my faith and knowing that she will remain in my heart until we meet again.

God bless you and your family through this time of mourning. God has called another angel to heaven.

Rest in peace Sweet Martha.

I am so sorry for your loss, Martha. Your mother was so obviously proud and fond of you. it was lovely seeing you together on your shows. Every day I have some dear memory come back. I know this will be true for you also. May they all be special memories.

What a beautiful picture, and after 4 children no less! Timeless style and radiance shines through. I'm sure she is shining down on you now, warming you and your family with a lifetime of beautiful memories.

So sorry to hear about your Mother passing away. As an avid watcher of your program I have felt as though I knew your mother, Martha. It was always delightful to see her on your show. You have been so lucky to have a Mother so healthy. My own Mother suffered a stroke two years ago (she is 78 now) which left her in really bad shape. You have been blessed. Again, so sorry for your loss.

I am sending you thoughts of love regarding the loss of your precious mother. I have watched her on your show for a number of years. What a lady! All my best to our family!

Dear Martha --

I am so sad to read of your mother's passing. To see you with your mother on your show helped me to deal with my own mother's passing. The joy of cooking with your mother and cooking her recipes was exactly how my mother and I shared time together. Those memories you have with your mother will never leave you. The memories you have will carry you through the toughest of times.

I am 43, the oldest of four children. Our mother at 62, passed March 2005 and August 2006 our father at 65 passed. The last Thanksgiving together, 2004, my mother gave me her little green notebook with all of her recipes rewritten in her beautiful handwriting, little did I know that it was our last one together. I prepared my father his last Thanksgiving according to her recipes.

Mother enjoyed you I know. As I have gone through my parents belongings I found an old issue of your Christmas magazine. It was fun looking through it. "Martha" does this or that was mentioned around each Thanksgiving and Christmas by her or me.

Thank you for sharing your mother with all of your audience. Your mother is forever in your heart. God bless you and your family during this time.

T. Blackwell

Martha, I have often called myself your biggest fan when talking about your show with my friends. The truth is, your Mom was your biggest fan. You could see the love and pride written on her lovely face. What a joy you were to her. God bless you,

I was absolutely shocked to come home after a week away, to the news of Big Martha's stroke and subsequent passing. My eyes filled with tears when my husband told me. I can't even imagine how great a loss this must be for her family.

To them, I extend my most heart-felt condolences. Big Martha was singularly inspiring to me. And YES, she absolutely is gorgeous in that photo at the beach - and still smiling as brightly at her 93rd birthday! I can only hope that I am blessed to be so active and sharp when I am that age.

God's peace be with you in your hours of sorrow. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing Big Martha with the rest of us.

I just wanted to offer my condolences also. My mother passed away last year and I can stlll feel the loss. But there are very many happy memories that I have of her and I hope that you have a great many happy memories of your mother.

Dear Martha,

Your viewers will always remember her vibrant presence with you on your show - and the credit you gave to her for your success - so her memory will live with us as well as with you. What a great lady! Those of us who have also lost our mothers feel your loss.

I was so sorry to hear of "Big Martha's" death. I lost my Mon 14 years ago, so i know what you are feeling now. there is no way to take away the pain, I care and I am praying for you and your family. That is all I can give you. The memories you have of her will be a comfort.Know that you will always hear her voice in your head. You will know what she is thiking about what is happening in your life even though she is not physically there with you. And there is another aspect of this event. Soon you will feel this incredable surge of strength, even stronger than you felt when you made it through your prision time. You see my friend you will realize that this was the event you had been dreading for most of you life..and you made it through. and if you can do this, you can do anything.. Be kind to yourself. sincerely, scarlet

How beautiful your mother was. I was so sad to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful lady. I always enjoyed the shows when she came on and cooked with you. She was fabulous. I just think she must have been so proud of all you have accomplished, and mostly from things she herself taught you. What a wonderful testament to how much a mother can do, and that the things they teach us can do more than keep a lovely home. It can be passed on to the world for those who may not have someone to teach those creative arts, those home economics. Thank you to "Big Martha and to "Little Martha" Keep on teaching.

Martha,
Sending to you and to your family my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dear 'Mom'. You were so fortunate to have her in your life for as long as you did, and that your lives made the full circle, from Mother and Daughter to dear and best friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on this Thanksgiving Holiday, knowing that you were all truly blessed by Big Martha's presence in your lives each and every day.

With love and sympathy,

Martha, I was so shocked to hear of your Mother's death. I am truly sorry. It was the worst day of my life when I lost my Mom. Martha you always treated your Mom like she was the most important thing in the world to you. She will forever be with you in everything you do. I always thought you had hands just like your Mom. I have hands like my mom. Sometimes as I am working on a project I can see her same movements and I know that she would be proud. God Bless your Family at this time. Patricia Boggs

My deepest thoughts are with you and your family. I remember the first show I saw was your mother making a dish where "She" was the expert. It was clear that your relationship was special.

I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family.

Thank you for sharing Big Martha with us, she was always inspirational. I admired her disposition, whether it be her no-nonsense approach to rolling dough, or the way her face was illuminated when she displayed her joyful grin, and it's obvious that she instilled strength in you. She reminded me of my Polish Babshi. Take care, Jennifer

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother's death. I lost my Mom in 1992 and it doesn't matter how much money we have or our status in life .... the loss of our mother is devastating. They are possibly the only people in the world that truly love us unconditionally and at the same time can tell us the absolute truth. Dr. Patricia Moody spoke at a meeting I attended years ago and defined empathy as "the ability to feel someone else's pain in your own heart". I empathize with you.

Your Mother was so funny and cute and probably a lot of other adjectives but it is those adjectives tht we all miss.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Kay

I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family. Thank you for sharing Big Martha with us. She was always inspirational. I'm going to miss her too, she reminded me of my Babshi.

I love this picture! Big Martha was so cute! No wonder all the kids are good-looking, too! What did Edward, the father look like? Such fun to see old family pictures.... Carillon in Phoenix

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Sometimes you do not need to know a person to know how much of a beautiful heart they had. You see that beauty in the evidence of their children. When I see you, I know your mother was a fine person who was a talented, caring and giving woman.

May God be with you and your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May wonderful memories bring comfort to you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know your Mother meant so much to you. Praying that God gives you strength and peace.

My condolences to you and all your family for your loss. I enjoyed watching you and your mom together on your show early on. I will miss her physical presence on your show but find comofort that her presence will shine brightly above us. God bless you during this time.

Dear Martha and Family,

I have recently lost my mother also my heart goes out to you. It is never easy to accept the loss of a loved one, no matter what the age. My mother was only 55. but even if she had made it to a ripe ole' age of 93 it would have been just as hard i think.
much love, jenny

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. I know she was truly a loving inspiration to you and your family, and that she will be greatly missed. May it comfort all of you to know you are in the prayers of many.

Hello Martha & Family,

What a beautiful picture of your mother. Thanks for posting it. I am so sorry for your loss. I dreamed last night that I was able to personally visit with you about your mother and her passing. I woke up hoping that you know how much we all love you and your family. I will miss seeing you with "Big Martha" on your program. It has been a treat.

What a lovely photo of your mother. It reminded me of my own mother in a bikini during the 1940s.

Dear Martha and all of Big Martha's family. I can see why you were all overwhelmed. I just finished reading all 468 comments that have been posted and I find it comforting also that people from all over the world are responding in such loving ways to the loss of a wonderful women that most of us have never met in person. It makes me think: wouldn't she have been a fantastic ambassador to any where in the world and unoffically she already was. She looks great in her swimsuit with that coquettish smile! God Bless all of you. All my love and support, Jan

I was so sorry to hear about your Mother. I always liked to see her on your show. She seemed like a very interesting person. I watched a show of yours that was on some time ago, your Mom was on it and after that time I always liked to see your Mother on your shows. I bet she was a wonderful Mother and a good friend. Well just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you and your family at this time.
Sincerely,
Lee Webster

Please except my condolences in the loss of your mother. I loved her vigor for life, and always enjoyed her style in the kitchen . I will miss seeing her, she always had her beautiful smile. I'm so sorry for this sadness in your lives and such a great loss. God's comforting strength to all of her family.

I'll bet your Mom was ALWAYS a "ball of fire" !! This picture captures her confident, spirited personality - which was still very much in evidence years later as she visited your show, demonstrating her knowledge of cooking and whatever else you asked of her !! It was obvious your Mom loved you... and she was SO proud of you..

I always enjoyed any segment of your show that included your Mom. I know you and your family will all miss her. I will miss her, too.

Martha: I was saddened to hear about your mother's death. She was such a lovely lady and I always looked forward to seeing her on your many t.v. shows through the years. She was very proud of all of her family. We will miss her, too. What nice memories we all have of her.

Dear Martha and Family,

My heart goes out to you at this time. Loosing a mother is never easy no matter how long you had her by your side to lead you through life. May her memory always bring a smile to warm your day.

Sending sincere condolences to you and your family from Mississippi on the loss of your beloved mama. I always enjoyed seeing her on your show.

Dear Martha
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. Your mother was an amazing woman. I also lost my mother this year and feel the loss deeply - in many ways she was like your dear mother - strong, independent and beautiful.
Clara, Melbourne Australia

I saw your Thanksgiving Special on tv tonight and at the end saw your mother had passed. I'm not sure why but it made me cry - probably because anyone that watches your show or knows about you also knows your mom and have fallen in love with her also. You and your family have been very lucky to have had her in your live for so long. It's never easy losing a Mom, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Dearest Martha,
I share in the sorrow of your mother's death. I also rejoice in the celebration of her life with equal measure. Thank you for sharing her with us over the years. Her proud and loving presence will be missed by not only her personal family, but her television family as well. Her life will remain a joy to all who knew her on and off the camera. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Martha; I lost my mom ten years ago. It still hurts but I find joy when I think about all the wonderful things she taught me during her life. We did not have much but we always knew we were loved. You are in my prayers.

Your mother's vibrancy will always be remembered, Martha. Our family always look forward to segments of the show starring Big Martha!

Wishing your family many blessings,
Angela

Dear Martha,
It's 12:30 AM Mon. morning and I just finished watching your Thanksgiving Special on Fine Living. I read of your Mom's passing and wanted to send my condolences. It's hard no matter how old we are when a parent passes on. We will always be their child. May happy memories sustain you. Your Mom was on the program making her cabbage pierogi. Since I am of Polish heritage, I love pierogi and will have to look for her recipe on your site. When a friend passed away, I took several of her favorite recipes and created a page on decorative paper and made copies of it to hand out at the funeral home. Everyone loved having something to remember her by. Its 'a good thing' that you have archived all the programs that your Mom was in. Luv ya!

Dear Martha,

Sorry for your loss. Your mother was a beautiful person. Thank you for introducing your mom to all of us. God Bless. You and your family are in our prayers.

Lola

Dear Martha: I regularly view your show and read your many books and magazines. I especially like your holiday specials because I get so many helpful ideas and hints. Since my mother's death I have become the family cook for all the important holidays. My mother was Polish and made many delicious dishes but never left her recipes thinking that none of us would be likely to continute her traditions. Over the years I have recaptured so many favorites from your mother's visits to your show. I was so saddened this evening after watching your Thanksgiving special to see the announcement of your mother's passing. I extend to you and your family my heartfelt condolences at this special time of thanks. Your mother will live on in my kitchen as well as your's.

Sincerely, Ron McGuckin

Some day I would love to share some of Aunt Millies receipes with you. I know you will love them just as much as we do. If there is anything we can do please were just an email away. Look forward to meeting you and giving you a warm hug. Our love and prayers, Gerard and Hector

We were so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My sisters and I always enjoyed seeing her on your show, as she reminded us of our own mother, who we lost two years ago this month. Our mother was Slovak and made some similar dishes to the Polish ones you shared from your mother. Moms are so special; yours will live on in all our hearts. Take care,

Barbara Tanner

Thank you for "sharing" your fascinating mother with all of us. She is an inspiration and reminds us to take care of ourselves physically and to focus on being a "participant" and not an "observer." You and Big Martha have postively influenced many lives. We will all be thinking of you this holiday.

Dee

Martha,
I am so deeply saddened to hear of your loss.
Your family is the hearts, thoughts and prayers of many.
I have so admired you for your creativity, perseverance, strength, and fortitude - much of which could be seen in your mom.
Some of my favorite shows were those in which your mom appeared. She was truly an inspiring woman, as are you.
Part of her legacy lives on in you and what you have accomplished.
Please find strength in the fact that your mom touched the lives of so many and their prayers are with you and for her today.

Respectfully,
Mary Mihalic

Dear Martha, Alexis & Family, My deepest sympathy to all of "MOM'S" loved ones. Thank you for sharing all of her guidance, humor & encouragement... she will always be remembered for some of these Good Things. And so we say to her, "Arise, Shine; for thy Light is come, and the Glory of the Lord is risen upon thee." Isaiah 60:1. And to all of us here on earth, remember: "God grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change; COURAGE to change the things I can; and WISDOM to know the difference. Trusting that He will make all things right as we accept His Will; and that we may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen" Taken from the SERENITY PRAYER. You are not alone in you sorrow, we share your loss...thanks so much for sharing your MOM with all of us. Please continue to share your family with us. And perhaps a book that commemorates MOM and forever, is handed down in our families! "Lessons MOM Taught Us." Certainly, it will be even more wonderful, if you include her recipes along with her favorite comments on each dish! Then, if you will share with us those great pictures that we still have in our minds, of you preparing the recipe with her! Just a few thoughts... I like to share fond memories of my Grandmothers and my Dad with my family, it helps to keep their memories alive and the lessons that they taught me! Did your Mom like to make Cream Puffs? My Grandma loved to share them with us and she always used Coconut Cream Pudding for the filling! Martha have you ever tasted them like this! She used a box of pudding mix... but maybe you have a favorite recipe for a delicious filling? As you can tell, it really does help me to remember all of the good things about them! And it is O.K. to feel sad and to cry... it can be very healing. Her hugs must have been wonderful... her smiles just added an even brighter light to your shows! So, you keep on smiling, too and let her light continue to shine through all of you. Perhaps, someday I will be able to come to your show and share a smile, with you... you might teach me to prepare a few fillings for Cream Puffs! God bless and keep all of you, in His Loving Care. Our prayers are with you, Karen

Dear Martha,
I was saddened to hear about the loss of your sweet Mother. I have always enjoyed when she has been on your show. God gave you a wonderful Mother and she loved you, you could just see it when the two of you were together. I will be praying for God to sustain you and your family during your grieving. I think a show to celebrate your Mothers wonderful life would be very healing and wonderful for all of us who loved her. She has been an inspiration to me just seeing and hearing about her from you on your show!

I am truly sorry to read that your mother passed...I used to love watching her when she appeared on your television show from time to time. She seemed as if she was a warm and wonderful lady...may she RIP.

Viewing this picture just brought me to tears. It is amazing how beautiful she was. I loved watching the segments on your show when you and your mother cooked together. When I was unable to watch on TV, I listened with a radio that had TV audio. Listening to these TV segments was a lifesaver for me when I was going throught some very difficult times.
I remember on one episode where you said to your mother that she should record her recipes. I am glad you made sure that her recipes were saved and am grateful that you are sharing them with us.

What a full life your mother lived Martha and she is still living in memory. The picture of her in the swim costume is amazing, I wonder how she kept so trim and toned, wouldn't be chasing 4 kids around would it be LOL......Make this Thanksgiving a reflective and happy one thinking of Big Martha :)

Happy Thanksgiving and deepest condolences,

~Lacey~

Having lost my own mother some years ago I know the lonliness of not having her near. But like you I too was very close to my Mom and am thankfull for all the wonderful and fun times we shared. I hope your own memories will do the same for you and for your family.

I was deeply sadden by the passing of your Mother. Each time I was aware of her appearance on television that program was a must watch or was taped for later viewing. Her smile could brighten the whole setting. I often marveled at her cooking and knowledge even in her later years. She truly left a wonderful mark on this world and the world is a better place because of her.

Deepest sympathy,
Linda Brooks

Big Martha will always be with you and still will never miss a show. It is a delight to see such respect and adoration the two of you share. The strength and the honorable way in which you have lived your life is an ongoing tribute to your mother.

Dear Martha,

I am really sorry to her about your Mother's passing, I will always remember her in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary Ann Umberger

My heart goes out to the Kostyra family. She was such a lovely and entertaining addition to the show, and the mother-daughter relationship is such a special one that I know she will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathies to your family. It is so difficult to lose a mother. I will pray for her and the family, especially at mass Sunday.

What a beautiful woman she was!
And she looks so happy in the photo. May she rest in peace.

Dear Martha,
Thank you for allowing us to know your mom through your many programs. She was a wonderful role model, and you are proof of what a great teacher she was.

In many ways, she reminds me of my great grandmother who came to this country from Poland and lived in Philadelphia. She, too, could sew and bake, and we miss her, but her spirit lives in us everytime we make "Old Country Cake" or make perogies. We will always have these gifts.

You have been able to give this spirit to the world. She will always be with you and with us all. Thank you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,

Janet Conroy

Dear Martha and family,

All of you have been in my prayers since I heard about your mother's illness.

I admired your mother very much and always enjoyed her visits to your programs. She had a wonderful spirit and that will live on in all of you.

With heartfelt sympathy,
Anne

Dear Martha:
I lost my mother in 1999 at the age of 69...I miss her every day.
I am of Italian descent...and I long for 5 more minutes of cooking traditional Italian recipes with her...especially during this Holiday Season. Sometimes when I am sad, I just sit down and read all of her recipe cards written in her handwriting...and it makes me feel close to her...I am sure you and your mother shared many recipe cards that will comfort you in the years to come...My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Martha-
My heart shares in your sorrow.
Your mother was a beautiful lady. I remember viewing episodes and feeling a sense of comfort that only a mother brings to any environment.
My dear mother passed away on Dec 20, 2006. She prepared us for her absence with humor, saying, if I cried she would pull the hem on my dress during services. Her strength throughout life became my strength. Reflecting on her beautiful life has made her absence easier. She showed me the importance of being a mother and giving myself to my family. My deepest sympathy.
PS- My young children were kept from the viewing and burial, but when my youngest glanced at a picture, she quickly commented "they put grandmom in a treasure box!"

Dear Martha,

I was so sorry to hear about your mother's death. I know that you will be comforted by your memories of your mother. I have used some of her recipes and now will think of her when I use them in the future.

Lynda Gage

You have my deepest sympathy. I just lost my mother also on 11-11-07. May God Bless.

Dear Martha,
I was very sad to learn about your mom passing away. I am a 52 year old woman, my mom has lived with me for 16 years. I quit work two and half years ago, she can longer
be left alone. She has dementia and is very frail. She is 95 years old. People seem to think it is easier for your mom to pass when they are old. That is not true. Sometimes it is harder. We have had them a very long time. We have watched them go downhill. Your mom was very beautiful in her bathing suit picture. I have pictures like that too. They are priceless.
Our priest sang this song on Nov. 1, All Saints Day. It was very meaningful.
Going home, going home
I'm just going home
Quiet light, some still day
I'm just going home
It's not far, just close by
Through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
Going to fear no more.
Mother's there expecting me
Father's waiting too
Lots of folk gathered there
All the friends I knew
Nothing's lost, all's gain
No more fret nor pain
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
Going to roam no more.
Morning star lights the way
Restless dream all done
Shadows gone, break of day
Real life begun.

Your mom is home.
With deepest sympathy,
A friend in Ohio

My deepest sympathy. Big Martha was an inspiration, and a joy to watch and get to know through her apperances on the show. Part of her will forever live withins us, you must be honoured to be her daughter.
Sincerely
Tanya

Hello martha I just wanted to send you my prayers for your family.May time lighten your sadness until you can once again find joy in the memories of your loveone

My condolence to you and your family. You showed America how important family is and your mother's signature of that belief was always on it. I truly enjoyed the old and new segments that featured you two demonstrating something. May God's love for you and her love carry you all through.

To your entire family, praise God for the life of such a wonderful Mother as you had. What a gracious lady, what a marvelous life.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. Enjoyed seeing her w/ you on your show. She seemed like she'd be fun to be around.
Tough to lose your mom.

Martha,

I always enjoyed watching you with your mother. I, too, enjoy cooking with my mom and what a pleasure it has been to have that treat.

God Bless you and your family.

Just wanted to express my sympathy for your loss. She must have been an amazing person. God bless you and your family.

Martha and family,
The loss of a mother is one of the most profoundly felt losses in our lives. I have lost both parents and even at the age of 58 years, I feel like an "orphan". I have an amazing supportive family but still the mother/daughter bond is one of a kind. May the beautiful memories you have created
together carry you through the difficult times, and the lessons you have gained from "Big Martha"
enable you to feel overly blessed to have your own daughter. Can you imagine the legacy you will be leaving Alexis with? All blessings! You and yours remain in my thoughts and prayers. Kate Mead

Your mom certainly has a fabulous
figure in the picture you posted..so trim & toned especially after having four children!!
Pauline Mucciaccio

Wow Martha, what a great mom you had. My mom really has become my best friend over the years. It is hard to let go but you were blessed to have such a great parents.

Dear Martha- please let me extend my sympathies on the passing of your mother to you and your family. I know what it is to lose a beloved parent at the holiday season, (my own father passed away many years ago two weeks before Christmas) and how very stressful that is. I have admired you for many years, and can see that your mother was a huge inspiration on your life, as my dad was for me. You are in our thoughts and prayers~ God Bless.

My heart goes out to you and your family. I have to say that I have enjoyed watching your loving and respectful relationship with your Mother for years, and hope you know that many of us would wish for half that. She has been a part of all of our lives through you, and we thank you.

Oh Martha, I am so sorry about your mom. She always reminded me of my mom's mom: very exacting and organized and such a good cook. She is also 94 this year. You were always so respectful to your mom and I admire you for that. There are so many celebrities that 'dis' their parents after they're famous. You always put her in the spotlight when you talked of her or brought her on your shows. She looks so cute in this picture! She will never be forgotten! Take care,

Dearest Martha,

Oh, how sorry I am for you and your family. Your mother lived such a long and fulfilled life. And to have her so long in your life, you must count yourself blessed. I lost my mother in September last year, and she was my best friend; we talked every day. I long to hold her soft-as-silk hands and kiss her perfumed cheeks. But we are both lucky. We had strong female role models growing up. I always knew that if Mom did it, so could I (and possibly more). She taught me how to be the quintessential "Southern woman," and I can only hope I will pass that on to my own daughters. It is evident that you have certainly passed your strong female heritage on to Alexis. If I could personally console you and bring you a pound cake, I would. But, please know my heart is with you. Sincerely, Mary Dene

So sorry about your mother's passing. I always enjoyed it when she would appear on one of your shows and cook with you. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Martha and family: Thank you for sharing your mother with us via television. It truly was a pleasant visit.

Martha,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. I lost my mom, my best friend on Christmas Eve, 1999 and it has never gotten any easier. So my heart goes out to you. She was such a great part of your life. Lorrie Taylor

Oh Martha, I am so sorry about your mom. She always reminded me of my mom's mom: very exacting and organized and such a good cook. She is also 94 this year. My mother too, is Polish, and her name is Harriet. I too learned so much from her growing up with a mother who cooked, sewed, crocheted with us by her side. Your mother was so accomplished, beautiful and a lovely lady who projected such a positive strong character for all women, and who seemed proud of her daughter, her heritage and family. Thank you for sharing her with all of us, and my deepest sympathy for your great loss.

What a cute figure she had and especially after 4 children. I just loved your Mother and my favorite shows were when she was on the show. I loved the comments she made and her darling sense of humor. She always looked so nice and you were lucky to have her in such good health for so long. May you and your siblings inherit such longevity.

My sincere sympathy,

Melinda

There was so much to love, but I especially liked the banter from your mother when she let you know "the right way"...May you celebrate this Thanksgiving with many great memories....jhb

I am really sorry about the passing of your Mother. I lost my Dad 5 years ago so I know what a difficult time it is for you and your family. You have my deepest regrets. She does look great after 4 kids. I am still trying to slim down after 5.

My thoughts and prayers are with you on the passing of your mother. The loving bond between a mother and daughter is something not all of us are lucky enough to have, and you seemed to be blessed with it. Bless you and your family during this sad time.

There is never a good time to lose a parent, but I believe it is always harder when it happens around the holidays. I lost "Mama" when she was only 64, so you are very fortunate to have had your Mom for such a long time. It will be hard for the first couple of years, but it gets easier. Just know that you and your family are in lots of prayers right now.

Melinda

Oh Martha,

Very shocked and sorry to hear about Big Martha's loss. She will always be cherished and remembered by all your fans. All of us knew how much you loved her and also how well you looked after her.

May God bless her soul.

Take care.

Dear Martha and family:
I read with great saddness about the death of your Mother. Please accept my sincere sympathy. I pray that all the wonderful memories you have of her will sustain you during this difficult time. Please allow yourself to take some time off to mourn her. Sincerely, Jean Seider

Dear Martha,

My sincere condolences on your loss of your wonderfult mother.
All I can say, is that I too had a role model and a mother I deeply miss. I also had mom until 93 yrs
however, she had Alzeihmer's for 8 years so I felt we were losing her a little bit each day. I know she is watching down on us and I feel blessed we had her for those many years. Please feel comforted with all the memories you have shared with yours these many years.
Vitchnaya Pamyat! (eternal memory
in my Russian translation).

My most sincere condolences to the entire Kostyra family. I have so enjoyed watching Mrs. Kostyra during her many appearances on television with Martha over the years and always hoped that she might publish a cookbook of her personal recipes or that Martha might release a DVD of some of the best of her mom's appearances and recipes. Mrs. Kostyra appeared to be such a warm and witty lady with a real knack of interacting with viewers and was so approachable. My deepest sympathies to her many family members who loved her and will miss her until all meet again.

Dear Martha.

I was so saddened to hear about your mother's passing. It's always been such a treat to see her on your show and find that her sass was still as strong and entertaining as ever. It's wonderful that you were able to have her for so long, but I know that doesn't make the loss any easier to bear. Just know that you're in the hearts of all of us whose lives you make better through your work.

Martha, Alexis and everyone close to Big Martha,
I watch Martha and listen to Whatever daily so I definitely feel sad for your loss and hope it gets better soon. Our dog died this weekend and although it's not the same as losing ones mother, I can definitely share in your grief. Best wishes to all and I hope all your fans, friends and family will help you pull through this sad time.
-Deanna S.

Dear Martha and Alexis,

My thoughts go out to you on this very sad news of your mother/grandmother passing. I just lost my father on November 1st and it has not been easy. I caught myself the other day when I was going to call my dad at home to see if he could help me fix something, I dialed most of the number, but the last and hung up. That was hard to come to that realization that I could not do that anymore. Peace be with you both always and I will be thinking of all the times that Mrs. Kostyra was on the Martha show. I always enjoyed the show even more when she was on. I have been a fan for many years and will continue to watch for years to come. Again, I am so sorry for your great loss to your wonderful family.

I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. May her memories bring you joy and happiness in this tough time. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thinking of you and your family in this difficult time. You have a rich tapestry of memories to keep and share for many years to come.

Look at the spunk in that picture! That's the same spunk that she showed at 93!!
My deepest condolences to you and your family and friends at this time.

Dearest Martha, Alexis, and family,
My heart goes out to you during this very sad time.
My favourite memories of Big Martha were always around the holidays and her tv appearances. It was always wonderful to see the love between mother and daughter.
Please know that you are in my prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.

My wife and I loved to watch the segments of the two Marthas in action on "from Martha's Kitchen" when it came on the TV Food Network. She was a real classy lady! I know you all were so very proud of her. She will be missed.

Dear Martha & Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I think we all saw wonderful resemblances of our own mothers and grandmothers when watching your mom on your show(s).
It is obvious that she was a GREAT influence in your life, just know that she also had a trememdous influence on us too.
With deepest sympathy,

Martha,

I just heard. I am so so sorry. I love the segments with your Mom. You could feel the warmth from her as well as from you when you were together. You could see the love. You had wonderful times with her and that is very special. You will have such good memories.

My strength is sent to you.

Ms. Stewart

My condolences. I write this as I watch the tribute to Martha Sr on your show. This weekend I sadly noted the third anniversary of my Mother's passing at the young age of 66. But, I was blessed to have known this remarkable women for 41 years. How blessed you are to have known your own remarkable Mother for so many years.

While we have never met...I do feel a kinship with you today. You have become a member of a sad but expected sorority. Your leadership within your family at this sad time will mean so much to your family.

Kindest regards,
Catherina Kennedy

Mothers are the best teachers, and your Mother will be missed.

Hi Martha,

I was sorry to hear about your mom. I feeel so lucky to have a great relationship with my mom too. I know how difficult it must be. You are so lucky to have so many beautiful memories. There is a book called Roses in December that talks about memories of those we have lost.

Whenever I have experienced a loss this poem helps me through it. I hope you find it as comforting.

I am standing upon the sea shore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the
morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says; “There, she is gone! ” “Gone where? ” Gone from my sight.
That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at that moment when someone at my side says, “There, she is gone! ”
There are other eyes watching her and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,
“Here she comes! ”
And that is dying.

Henry Van Dyke

Take care,

Martha,
Just watched the tribute to your mom and it was absolutely beautiful. She will surely be missed. Your staff did a wonderful job pulling things together. What a lovely lady! Thanks so much for sharing that with us.

I was saddened to hear about the loss of your mother. She was a beautiful soul who will be missed, but also remembered with great fondness by everyone who "knew" her from your shows.

I really enjoyed the tribute to your mother, who was such a lovely lady, thank you for sharing some of your memories with all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I was just watching your show and did not realize your mom had passed. I had to admit I have tears in my eyes after watching the wonderful tribute your staff did in her honor. How proud you must be to have had her so long in your life and how lucky you are. She made my day just watching her and listening to her and seeing her smile. God Bless you and your family on losing such a sweet lady. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and give THANKS to have had her so long in your life.

I have been a long time fan of yours and in turn your mother's. I always enjoyed when she joined you on your show. I am very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and all your mother's loved ones. May God keep her in his arms.

What a great picture of your Mom. She was a special person to your fans as well as to her family and friends. We will all remember fondly the times she was cooking with you and the friendly banter between the two of you. She reminded me so much of my Mom and I so looked forward to seeing her with you on TV. Please accept my sincere sympathy. We are all feeling your loss.

Dear Martha, my heart goes out to you and your family today. I know that you will celebrate her life with your fans. She was a sweet, spunky person who made me laugh. I always enjoyed the way you teased and listened to her on your shows. I could see the love and admiration that you gave her. Celebrate her unique and full life. Joan Sennette Canada.

My sympathies for your loss. I've gotten so much inspiration from watching you and your mom, you were hilarious on the show! Since her body wouldn't allow her to be full speed for Thanksgiving, she will be there in full spirit and with everyone she loves at once.
I know it's small comfort.
Thank you for sharing so much with the world.

My prayers go out to you and your lovely family. I"d like to thank Big Martha for raising such happy and successful children. For giving them all your kindness and warmth that you have shown thru all the years. You will be missed dearly. But remember you will always be in our hearts and homes .

How lucky you all are to have had "Big Martha" in your lives for so many years. She seemed to always be in good health and very happy. You are truly blessed.

Dear "Little" Martha-my daughter, Melany, And I have always loved "Big" Martha and always will. We would like to have a series of masses said for the peaseful repose of her soul. We hope that her family will be pleased with this. There is a card associated with this but we are not sure what address to use to send it to your family. Is there a corporate address you would like us to use? Thanks to all of your family and all that you have taught us. Sinecerely-EP White

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. My prayers are with you.

The show today was great. What a lovely tribute to your Mom, we loved her too.

Dear Martha, Alexis and the Family of "Big Martha",

It is with great sadness at the loss of "Big Martha" that I send this e-mail (I would actually prefer to send a handwritten note, but I realize for privacy reasons, your addresses are hard to come by), it is also with the the hope that you will be able to celebrate her life and the incredible legacy of a truly marvelous woman. Her work ethic that she instilled of each of you, will survive in the love you have for her and the memories you have of her. Having known heartbreaking losses, and still dealing with them today, I would like to end this with what my 56+ years have taught me. The pain of loss never goes away. It simply becomes a part of your life. The day will come when you realize that it is the first day when you have not awoke feeling that gut-wrenching sense of loss. Do not feel guilty; it is just that the loss is becoming part of your life. A friend of mine once explained it to me: life brings great joy, and loss brings joyful memories. I personally think "Big Martha" is with my maternal grandmother (a Polish immigrant) and they are now working on a batch of pierogi for the angels.

With wishes for the happiest of memories.

Dianne Whiting

Very sorry for your tremendous loss.
I always enjoyed the shows that showed "polish pride" Being Polish myself and losing my mother at a young age, I always felt at home with you and your lovely mother. Thank you for sharing her with us.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I, too, lost my Mom last year. Your Mom taught you so many useful things about cooking and homekeeping as did my Mom. Big Martha's legacy will go on through you and your family. You had such a great relationship with her! She was very lucky to have you for a daughter, and you were blessed to have such a "cool" Mom. Now you have an angel.

Remembering Big Martha with much joy and good thoughts. She was such a delight to watch. Her pride in you and her family was obvious. I lost my Mom on Thanksgiving Day, 1996 and the trip home was the hardest I have ever made. Both Moms will be sitting on our shoulders on Thankgiving and kibitzing as we fix our meals. Loving thoughts to you and all your family -- at this time especially.

Dear Martha, I lost my mother, my friend, on August 28th of this year. I miss her every day but am thankful that her passing was peaceful and that she is once again with my father. I send you and your family my deepest sympathy. Your Mom had such a bright and beautiful smile and a mischevious twinkle in her eye and will be greatly missed by your audience.
Hold your memories close of not only her 'mothering' but also her friendship.
Vicki Randle, Ontario, Canada

I know you are thankful that your mom lived so well and so long, and seemed very young for her 93 years. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Sending you my sincerest sympathy for the loss of your mother, "Big Martha". I really loved seeing her on your television show and in the magazine. It is never easy to lose a parent, especially one who was so full of life even at the age of 93. She was obviously proud of her daughter and her accomplishments and I loved the way you two bantered with each other on your show. Her warmth and love for others always shined through! The legacy of cooking and recipies she left you is a testament to her love for her family. God bless you at this time of sadness and keep you in his care.

Martha,

My sincere sympathies in the loss of your Mother. I just turned on your show and saw the "In Memory" segment. I had not know up until then. This is the perfect week for you and your family to reflect and be truly thankful for the wonderful years you all had with your Mom. She was with you through the good and bad times for 93 years! How lucky you were. My Mom passed away at age 69 and I wish every day she were still here to share in my life.

I have been a fan of yours and hers for years. My deepest condolences for your loss of such a great and inspiring woman. I hope the memory of her love and laughter will carry on for years to come.

Dear Martha and family,

I am now 64 years old and from the beginning of your show, I have been a big fan. I can remember rocking and feeding my baby while watching your show. Your mother appeared frequently and I alway enjoyed her so much because she reminded me of mine. My mother had some wonderfu tips like yours. I just loved your mother and her spirit of love.

Thanks for the memories.

I am sitting here with tears in my eyes and a prayer for you and your family in my heart with the loss of Big Martha. I knew that you Mom had been hospitalized, but did not realize that she had passed on to heaven until the opening of your show this morning.

I have lost both of my parents in recent years, and can tell you that I was blessed to have them in my life until I was in my forties; I learned so much from them both, as you did from your parents.

You are blessed to have had so many wonderful life lessons from your Mom, and to have so many guest appearances of her on tape from your show is just amazing. She was always fascinating and fun to watch and learn from, just as you are.

She always struck me as a wonderful person, talented, with a great sense of humor. I know where you have inherited all of these traits from.

May God bless you and strengthen you and your family during this difficult time, my family and I will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Ms Stewart and Family,
How wonderful to have had your mother for 93 years! Saw your show this am and was brought to tears because of the memories it brought back to me of my Mom. My Mom Sophie, also of Polish desent,
taught me all those recipes you and your mom were preparing. Periogies, cabbage rolls, borstch,
numerous cookies, pastries and bread. I remember many hours with my Mom cooking and baking and giving it all away. Lost my Mom a couple of years ago she was only 83. She was a great cook, mother and friend too. My heart goes out to you at this time. Thanks for sharing your Mom with us, as it was great to remember mine through her.

So sorry to hear about your mom. You and your family are in my prayers.....

I know that you will miss your mom so much. She was a pleasure to watch on your show. My mom passed away 18 mos. ago and it's still fresh in my heart. You will carry her with you always. It's comforting to know that you have so many happy memories of her. My thoughts are with you.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you grieve the loss of your dear mother.I have been watching your show for years up here in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada and have always loved when your mother was on your show. It was her laugh that really made me smile. She will be dearly missed.....

Dear Martha,

You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. Please remember that the thoughts and prayers of your fans are with you always. Have a wonderful holiday season. - Wayne Hamilton

Dear Martha, I can count on one hand the number of times I have cried over the passing of someone I didn't know personally. Today was one of those times. Thank you so much for sharing all of the love and teachings of your Mom over the years - sometimes I listen to your show while working at something - not so when Big Martha was on! Wanted to soak all of her humor, good advice and especially loved the back and forth between you two ladies. Thinking of your whole family.
Cheryl

You were very fortunate to have your mother as a role model and friend for so many years. I enjoyed the segments you did with her and wished my own mother had been just the slightest bit like her. I lost my mother last year in her 92nd year. She could boil water but not eggs!

Dear Martha and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. We all loved seeing your mother on your show , I have tried many of her recepies . Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss.

My heart has the teardrop feeling yet a smile comes because the memory of your mom brings out positive.

I send you a hug with caring thoughts and prayers.

Of all the times that your mom was part of your show and life, her birthday when she wore the orange dress comes to mind because of the happiness highlighted that day.
I also think of her sitting with her sister just a few weeks ago on your show. So sweet.

May God Bless you and comfort you at this time.
Shirley

Martha,

I am so sorry for your loss. Loosing a mom is unberable, although with time it feels a bit better. I found that to make sure that I didn't feel like I ever forgot about my grandmother I write her postcards for Christmas and Easter. I wish you all the best and hopethat you would be able (when you can handle it) to do a show with clips of your mom/your mom's recipes.

Know that you have an angel watching you!

Patricia

My dearest Martha,
I was so saddened to hear of Big Martha's passing. It was always such a pleasure to see the two of you together working on dough - it was like watching a ballet. She will be missed.
Take care and take heart and keep the faith.

Dear Martha and family, I am so sorry about your MOM passing, she was a wonderful lady, I always liked to see her on your show. My mom would have been 93 this year too but she passed at 81. She also liked you.

Martha - I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She must've been a wonderful woman and I know she will be missed. You and your family are in my heart and prayers.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family on the loss of your dear Mom. She lived such a wonderful full life that it must be a kind of joy to you that heaven had to wait so long. I lost my dear twin brother in May but he was only 69. How I wish I could have had him as long as you had your beloved mother. May she rest in peace.

Murray Woldman, Alexandria, VA

Dear Martha,
My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family on the passing of your mother, "Big Martha".
She was certainly an amazing woman and she will be sorely missed by your extended "fan family". She brought many a smile to my face with her spunk, as well as her wisdom!
Thank you for having shared her with us!

I so commend you for being able to put on the mini show today, Monday, after your mom's recent passing. I hope that it brought great fond loving memories and much happiness in this otherwise sad time. Big Martha was an inspiration to us all,and your relationship with her, sharing her with us all, was marvelous. God bless all

So, so sorry about the passing of your Mom. I was watching her last night make cabbage perogies on your Thanksgiving Special and saw the memoriam at the end. My sincere condolences....

I am sorry for your loss. I enjoyed watching the episodes with your Mom on tv. I felt the love she had for you and your family.
Love is not lost. It goes with the spirit to the Other Side (Heaven.) I bless your Mom for her kindness and love for others.
Her memory will live on in your heart and ours (your tv family).
Thank you Martha for your tv show and internet site. It is truly a blessing for all your fans.

Dear Martha,

I am so sorry to hear about you mother. You are such a strong woman, but no one is ever strong enough to lose a parent. My thought and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,
Carman-Florida

Martha and family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. I also just lost my mother last month, she was 86 and was like your mom in many ways. Although she wasn't polish, my dad was, but she learned to make many of the polish dishes from her mother-in-law. What a great Polish cook she became. I've tried to learn some of the dishes, but making the dough for the perogies are the hardest for me. I wrote a poem on behalf of my mom that I would love to share with you and your family.
You are now home in Heaven
Where it's happy and so bright
There is perfect joy and beauty
In it's everlasting light.
All your pain is finally over,
Now you can finally have some
peace,
Jesus opened his arms for you
to lean on,
To bring you safely home to
Heaven
We'll try not to grieve or shed
many tears
While you leave us for a little
while.
We will hug our sorrows through
the years
And do it with a gallant smile
and not our tears
And for your sake and in your
name
Live on and do all the thing the
same
When all our work is completed
here
And God will gently call us home
We'll try not to be afraid to die
For we know you'll be there
waiting for us in the sky!

God Bless you and your family

Martha Stewart and Family,

I am so sorry about the loss of your Mother, and I have always appreciated how you included her on your shows.

Mothers are the best teachers, and your Mother will be missed.

My condolences to you and your family for the passing of your Mother. You have been very lucky to have had her with you for so long enchriching your life and ours throught your show. I thank you for that.

So sorry to learn of your mothers
passing. I enjoyed her appearances on your show. She reminded me of my grandmother who was Irish and raised 15 children, and who also made stuffed cabbage.
She got her recipe from Hungarian neighbors while living in a coal mining camp. Your family is in my prayers at this time. It's especially hard to lose a loved one at holiday time.

I was saddened this morning to hear that you have lost your mother. My mother passed away in June this year of a massive stroke. She was 88. Although it is very hard to accept, I feel so lucky to have had her in my life for 63 years. So many of my friends were not as lucky as you and I and that is certainly something to be grateful about this Thanksgiving. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Martha and Family....My thoughts and prayers are with you. I loved your mother. After losing my Mom in June of 1992, I wanted to make something special for Christmas gifts for all my Aunt's. I just happened to see the "Stollen" episode with you and Big Martha (I taped it). It was my first time making a bread dough of any kind....it turned out perfect and all my Aunt's loved it. Thank you for the memories and God Bless!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Dear Martha.
I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She was always my favorite guest on your show. I am choked up writing this as I think of her as a special "Mom" to all of us. What a wonderful woman.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I lost my mother last month and the loss has been extraordinary. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I loved your show today.

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your dear mother. She was a joy to listen to and watch on your show and she will be missed by all of us. Thank you so much for allowing us to get to know her, in a way. Keep your fond memories close and you know you and your family are in our prayers.
Diane Nesline

I'm so sorry to learn of the passing of your dear mother. It has been so fun to "get to know" her and see you two interact when she has been a guest on your show. The confidence, poise and strength she possessed were very evidently passed on to you. The way you lovingly teased her and the respect you obviously had for her will be a lasting tribute. Remembering you in my prayers.

Dear Martha,I`m so sorry to hear of your mothers passing.I love your show especially when you had her as your guest. Her meatloft recipe is my favorite comfort food. She was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed.Gean from Marblehead Ma.

Dear Martha
So sorry about the lost of your Mother. I lost my Mom when I was 24 and she was 48. I know what its like to loose someone who taught you everything. I really enjoyed your Mother in the kitchen with you and I have done this with my girls because I use things she use to cook with and tell the same stories to my grandchildren because they never new her. Your Mother made me think of mine all the time and I loved the relationship you had with her. You could tell you were proud to be her daughter as much as she was proud of being your Mother. She could see the love in your eyes and the respect you showed her. God bless you and I know she will be at your Holiday table as always.

Sorry for your loss I know how close you were.

Dear Martha;
I was so surprized and saddened to hear of your mother's passing. She was and will continue to be a great support in your life. She grounded you and gave to you always what was needed for your growth. I know sorrow at this time is great and that it will come and go as the years fold. Her spirit will always be with you and your love for her will continue to grow. She will never stop teaching and will continmue to speak to you but now, in silent words that only you can hear.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Love,
Sarajean

Your mom was a knockout! Sending you and your family my deepest sympathy. God bless you.

Dear Martha and family,

I tuned to your show as always today to find that Big Martha had passed on.
I am 58,lost my dad 14 years ago and my mom has had Alzheimer's for the past 7 years.
I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed watching you with Big Martha over the years. The love and laughter and lessons you shared with all of us have truly been a rare gift, and over the past 20 years, through print and TV you have allowed all of us to share so many of your wonderful family moments.
What a beautiful and wonderful woman she was and how blessed your family has been. I know she'll continue to watch over you all.
Thank you for sharing with us. The way you have your life is quite a tribute to her.
I feel this loss very personally, as I am sure so many do.
Please know you are in my prayers.

God Bless all of you.

I am surprised at my sorrow at your mother's passing, knowing her only from the television. Clearly she had an effect on people that was moving, and far reaching. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Martha and Family,

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I know she was very important and loved very deeply by all. I always enjoyed her visits on the show... You all are in my thoughts.

Martha, I just heard about your mom, when I was opened your websites. I know you are going to miss her badly. She is a great lady, even I haven't met her personally. Thought and prayer for you and family

Dear Martha~
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I miss my Mom every day but also am so grateful for the endless gifts of her loving and tireless teachings that continued to the very last day of her short 61 years. May 'Big Martha's' words ring sweetly in your ears and temper your hurt every time you think of her.
Very best to you,
Joy

How blessed you are to have such a wonderful record of your mother's life that you have shared with so many. The relationship we were privy to view helped mothers and daughters everywhere better understand the importance of sharing stories, photos and time.
A year ago this weekend I lost my mom to a quick 6 week journey through pancreatic cancer, then 4- months later I suddenly lost my mother-in-law. As I told my 21-year old daughter today as we watched your tribute to your mom, time marches on, but we can forever hold onto the memories we create.
Many days I still want to pick up the phone and share something that I saw, or that just happened, I know she still shares these moments with me. I too am blessed.

With deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother.

Martha, My deepest sympathy of your loss, I know you were blessed for having such a wonderful mother. Her legacy will live on through her loving family.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my dad this year and it is a very hard thing even when they have lived a long and rich life. Your mom struck me as a strong and confident person when she shared segments on the show with you. You were very respectful to her and including her in those opportunities must really warm your heart now that you look back on it. You will have many memories to cherish. As you go through the next hard days, weeks and months, know that there are many others thinking of you and praying for you.

Dear Martha,
I am crying with you.
What a wonderful Mom.
Thank you for sharing her with us.
Fondly,
Carolyn

Dear Martha and family,

I caught the tribute to "Big Martha" this morning while on the road. Of all the things you have accomplished, honoring your mom over the years by including her so visibly in your life and work should make you most proud.

My sincere sympathies go to you and your family. May you celebrate her life and share the comforts of your amazing memories of this wonderful woman.

Dear Martha, Alexis and all:

P.S. She looked just as gorgeous at 93 as she did in the 1940s!

Dear family of Big Martha,
May god bless you and comfort you during your time of grief. And most of all God Bless Big Martha.

To Martha Stewart,
Bree from Desperate House Wifes just put out a living family album. It would be wonderful to have her on your show and tell people all about her precious gift to families. I wish I had this when my dad was still alive. All our love and best wishes.

Martha,
I was shocked to read of the passing of your dear Mother.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family on your Mothers loss.
No words can soften the pain right now.

I lost my mother when I was 24 I'm 74 now, I still cry when I talk to her.

Remember she will always be by your side.

Martha, your mother has been an inspiration to all of us.

She will always, be remembered.

I was truly saddened to hear about your Mom. My own mother and I always love watching the two of you together in the kitchen. Family and traditions are so valuable and we felt a kinship with your family through the two of you. My grandmother is 95, my Mom is 72, and I will soon be 55 so we are trying to carry on our own traditions as well. I know you will miss your Mom but know that she will always be with you in spirit and most importantly, loving memories. May God bless you,

Sharman B., Cunningham, KY

Dear Martha,
I was sadden to hear of the death of your wonderful Mother. I knew the first time I saw you scrape a bowl clean as a whistle that your Mother taught you not to waste a drop of anything...as did mine. I know you will cherish your memories of her.

Dear Martha and Family,
A garden rose most beautiful was Martha's Mother. She made lovely all of our lives with her grace and presence, and her cheerful laughter heard on the gentle breeze. Her rose has crept beyond the garden wall, but in our hearts we know she is blooming on the other side. Peace to all, and may God bless.

Dear Martha and family,
I was saddened to hear of your mother's passing. It was always a pleasure to see her on your programs and I always learned something new. I know she will be missed and my sincere condolences go out to you and your family.

Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men , and He will live with them. They will be His people, and He will be their God. God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death, sorrow, crying, nor pain, for these former things have passed away.

God Bless,

Dear Martha,

Your mother will be remembered for her beauty, grace, and strength. My heart goes out to you and your family. May God lighten your hearts with fond memories of Big Martha.

So very sorry for the loss of your Mother, especially at the Holidays.

No one influences us like our Mothers and there is no loss comparable.

My sincere sympathies to you and your family.

Martha, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She was a great joy to watch, she reminded me of my grandmother that I lost in November of 1999. My grandmother was my mentor in the kitchen, as well my mom is too. God bless you and yours.

Dear Martha,

Ninety-three years young and still not long enough ...

Thank you for having your dear mother appear so many times on your shows. How wonderful she was and no doubt, a unique TV star was born! I believe your mother represented the absolute best, and to all generations, she reminded us of our own mothers and grandmothers. Seeing her continue to 'teach' you and her own grand-daughter (Sophie) her special baking techniques always reminded me of those special moments I spent with my grandmother, watching her create the perfect dough for pie and so much more. Thank you, 'Big Martha,' for those appearances and for being the special person you were. You'll be remembered with much appreciation and kindness, not to mention your ageless smile and spirit.

Martha, I and I'm sure countless others would love to have a DVD set of all of your Mom's show appearances. Perhaps in the future, a boxed set would be so appropriate and such a beautiful tribute to a special lady. Please consider doing so; it would be so perfect and how she'd love knowing that her 'teaching' continues on and on.

My sympathies to you and yours,

Susan F.

Dear Martha & Family,

May memories of your mother comfort You. Our mothers teach us to love, to see beauty, to take our place in the world... and bloom there. Your mother will always live in your heart, in your memories, and in the way you see the world. May you find comfort in her soft presence all around you.

Dear Martha and Alexis:
I was so shocked to learn the news this morning of Big Martha's passing. I had not known she'd been hospitalized. I just watched the little video tribute here on your site (obviously put together before she passed). It was just lovely. I loved watching the two of you in your kitchen on your show. It was always so touching to me that you seemed to applaud and embrace her age and her accomplishments, instead of focusing on "youthful" topics. Big Martha will be missed.
You are in my prayers.

"And I saw a river over which every soul must pass to reach the kingdom of heaven / And the name of that river was 'suffering' / And then I saw a boat which carries souls across the river / And the name of that boat was 'love.'"

Your mother was a shining example of a life well lived!

Our deepest condolences Martha and family on the passing of your mother. Bless you.

Dear Martha, As I sit here going thru my own Mom's special holiday recipes watching your show I heard of your wonderful mother's passing. Since my own mother has been gone for 35+ years, the news made me sad for you and for me all over again... You had her for such a glorious long time. I know you know just how lucky you were. I can't thank you enough for sharing her and all her wisdom for all of us to see. As I watched her with you it allowed me to dream a little of how it might have been for me. I enjoyed to the endth degree watching and listening, what a gift to all of us. Thank You,Much Love and Deepest Sympathy, Peggy Dwyer

Martha, I turned on your show today and watched the tribute to your Mom. I am writing this with tears in my eyes. She was such a wonderful sweet woman.

While watching the tribute, I found myself remembering many of those segments when your Mom was on the show. I especially remember myself worrying about her when you were placed in prison. I know she had to be such a strong person in order to make it through such a difficult time in both your lives.

Thank you for sharing her with us.

Hi Martha,
I was so very sad to hear of your dear Mom's passing. What a wonderful lady she was! I have been a fan of yours (and hers) for years now. I always enjoyed when she was on your show. The love you had for your Mom was very evident as was hers for you. She always had a story to tell or something you could learn from. I loved the time she was on with your niece Sophie and she was showing her how to roll out the dough! You were all laughing so much and having a great time! I did the same with my daughter (Alexis too!) and my grandmother when she was still alive. These are the wonderful memories of your Mom that you will always hold near and dear to you. Please do not stop sharing all the stories and wonderful things you learned from your Mom! She really was a wonderful woman who loved life! I'll be keeping you and your family in my prayers during this most difficult time for you all. I hope it helps knowing that others really loved your Mom too!
Wishing you all peace and comfort in the days to come,
Kris

Dear Martha, Siblings and Family

Who am I? No one that you have ever met. I don't really know why I am move to write. I was thumbing threw the channels today 11/19/07 and found your show featuring various segments with your mother. It was very moving to me to see the unspoken love that you have for your mother and family. I know that God has given you the gift of a lasting love for your mother. Gods love for us and what we will cherish in our lives are such a treasure. What we accomplish in a life time can not be measure against the love of a mother and her family.
Gods Holy spirit will give you great comfort and love.

I wish you well.

Never missed your show when your Mother was on. One could see by watching, that you're very much your mothers daughter.
A charming, wise and no nonsense lady. Rarely seen this day and age-
she will be missed!

I am sad about big Martha's passing away. I love watching you together. may god bless you.

Kathleen morin QC. Canada

I was so sorry to hear about the death of your beloved mother. I just found out from my daughter and was so shocked. It seems like she was just on the show very recently. I only hope I can live such a long, full life.

Martha and family,

My deepest sympathy to you personally and your entire famliy in the passing of your Mother.

When watching you and your Mom either cooking or baking on your shows--it would bring me back to a simpler time--when as a child my Mother and I would spend hours and hours together in the kitchen--doing just the same; cooking, laughing, talking, and sharing.

My Mother, just as yours, instructed me on how to cook, bake, sew and "create"--and most importantly--to love life.

May you find comfort this holiday season and always in those times of sharing laughter and for all the memories she has given you.
It is obvious where you acquired your strength and joy de vive.

You were truly blessed as was I.
My thoughts are with you.

Watching you Martha, and your mother engage in cooking and baking in the kitchen always brought a smile to my face, as I always did that with my polish grandmother! I was fascinated with the pierogi process, and she always included me in it. I am truly blessed to be polish with all the beautiful traditions. I know you will miss your mom, especially on the holidays! I'm sorry for your loss, and may your wonderfully happy memories bring you comfort.

Dear Martha:
I just wanted to add my voice to the choir of supporters during this time. Like so many have said, your segments with your Mom was like having some time with my own teaching me all of the things that I wished I had learned so many years ago.
Thanks Martha and Big Martha.

Janet.

Martha and family,
I was so sad to hear of your mother's passing. She so reminded me of my mom who has passed of alzheimers. Her smile, her love of life and cooking and family will be remembered. God Bless you and your family.

Dear Martha & family;

Words are so inadequate to express my sympathy on the passing of your mother. She touched all of our lives, thanks to you. I hope the Good Lord wraps you in warm and wonderful memories to help counter your sorrow. You have given so much to your admirers, I hope you know that we have you in our thoughts and prayers. Your mother was a wonderful Mom to have produced such an outstanding daughter as you. She must be so proud. What a wonderful legacy she has given us.

Sincerely, Laura Sabbatino, Key Biscayne, FL

Dear Martha,
I am sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. My mother left us eight years ago-also on November 16th. At first, I was afraid that every Thanksgiving I would be saddened by the thought she would not be with us. As it turned out-Thanksgiving is the time of year when I think of her most-lovely, warm thoughts and memories of how our family spent the holidays together.
May you also find peace in your mother's passing in years to come-
My prayers are with you and your famiy-

I am so sorry to learn of your Mother's death. I am through and through Polish (with a bit German and Russian thrown in there). Big Marth's cooking presentations were a reminder of my own mother, who died far too young. Blessings upon Those who mourn.

I am sorry to hear about your mom. All the times I saw here on the show she was always smiling. She will always be with you.

In my prayers and thoughts

I was so sorry to hear of your Mother's Passing. I loved to watch her on your shows, and I'm sure that you have some wonderful memories to help you through this sad time. And like you have said it is a celebration of their lives that should be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

When I turned on your show, and you began talking about your mom, I thought you were going to say your mom is here to help with this meal, but your words dragged on and it was stated you had lost your mom. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you for sharing your mom with us.
Sincerely,
Sylvia

God Bless you and your family during this time. Big Martha is a jewel. I hope the peace of God will surround you and comfort you all throughout the holiday season.

Martha,
We loved the segments with your mom along with her sharing those wonderful recipes. We will miss her!
Thank you for sharing her with the rest of the world. You're in our thoughts.
Always,
Andy & Betty

Dear Martha & family,
I was so sorry to hear about your Mom, Big Martha. She always reminded me of my Mom & her sisters, all in their late 80's.
I'm sure this Thanksgiving you'll be thankful that you were lucky enough to have your Mom for as long as you did. We'll miss her.

Martha,

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Losing a loved one is never easy. You must be so proud to be her daughter, as I'm sure she was so proud of you. Hugs and strength to you and your family.

Best,
Denise

Dear Martha and Family,
Heaven has a new angel now. I loved watching your mother on your show, she was a very clever woman. She was obviously the driving force behind such successful children. You were and still are blessed. My deepest sympathy on your great loss.
Jill

Dear Martha,
My Mother and I were watching your show this am and learned of your Mother's passing. You obviously had many cherished times together. I am my Mother's caretaker now and while she eats breakfast, we watch Martha together and see what's cooking. We used to make sandtarts for Christmas together, rolled thin, cut-out just so. I know your family will miss your delightful Mother.
With sympathy, Nancy Manock

I am so sorry for your loss. I have shared many laughs and tears with your mother and you. We all hope to have and be a great Mother as she was. May God be with you and your family at this time.

Your mom was a real "pip"! I loved watching her work with you to create all those wonderful old dishes.

I'm so sorry for your loss; I will miss her, too.

Dear Martha and Family,

My deepest condolences for the passing of your mother, grandmother, sister, friend. I have always enjoyed watching her on the Martha Stewart show. What zest for life she had and how much she seem to enjoy life. I hope you can take comfort in the wonderful life she has lived and the joy she took in her family.

Dear Martha - I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved Mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Hugs to you on the loss of your mother. A small part of her still lives on in all our kitchens and recipe collections.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. Mine passed away on the 3rd just 9 days shy of her 88th birhday. I know how you feel, it's a loss in your life that is hard to deal with at times even though you know they went to a happier place to be with those they love and love them. Still it's hard when all you want to do is pick up the phone and hear their voice.

Be well and please extend my condolences to your family also.
Blessings,
Kate

I just turned on the tv this afternoon to watch your show and learned of your mom's passing. Big Martha was an inspiration, teacher and mother to many - those close to you and your family , immediate and extended - and to those (fans) who got to know Big Martha through you and your television shows.
Big Martha you will be missed.
A new journey begins...

Dear Martha,
I am watching your show and the memories of your Mom. I am crying and trying to stay in control. Thank you for sharing all the highlights of your Mom. I love cooking the stuffed cabbage for my family.
Sincerely,
Patricia

For all of the Kostyra family - I wish you the best of memories to hold in your hearts of Big Martha. She endeared me to her when seeing her in the audience. I especially enjoyed watching her experienced hands working dough. It so reminded me of my dear grandmother, since I would always watch her baking bread (and many other goodies).

I'm very sorry for your loss, my Dad just passed away also. We'll have an empty spot at the table this Thanksgiving, but a lot of wonderful memories.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have enjoyed watching you and your mother on the show. I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for you and the rest of your family at this time... I will keep you all in my prayers.

BEAUTIFUL, ELEGANT Martha,
I send sympathy for the loss of your mother's physical presence, but her spirit lives on in your smile and artistic sharing with the world.

The photo of her in the '40's is simply LOVELY.
I send praise for the SPECIAL person she was and for the memories she has left behind.

You are very lucky to have had such a wonderful mother.

I watch your program most every day and have gleaned many enriching ideas through the years.

"I learned it from Martha" is a phrase I say very often.

Thanks for sharing the BEAUTY of everyday LIVING with the world.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mom, when i heard this today monday 11/19/07, i just broke down and cried, i feel so badly, a wonderful lovely inspirational person whom i have learned so much from. I will miss her along with so many others, i know she would want us to REMEMBER HER WITH SMILES AND LAUGHTER, BUT DO NOT REMEMBER HER WITH TEARS AND SORROW. My thought and prayers are with you. Joan and John

Martha, I must say that until today I had not seen any episodes with your mother. The tribute to her at the beginning of Mondays show proved her to be a delight. I know she will be missed especially at this time of year. God Bless you and your entire family. May he keep his loving hand on your shoulder at this time so you know that your not alone.

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother, as I lost mine 2yrs. now and it still is very painful without her, may God be with you and your family. I was very happy
to see her in your shows they were great. She will be missed.
God Bless her.

Martha - I feel so sad for your loss and our loss too. Your mom was certainly special to all of us. I loved seeing the two of you cook on your show. Please don't remember the sad times but rather the happy times that you had together. Talk about her often with a smile on your face. It does help you heal. Her picture on her 93rd birthday was fabulous. She looked great didn't she? Please know that my whole family loves all of the recipes that I make that come from you. My daughter and I make cookies every Christmas and Easter using your recipe and now your cookie cutters and sprinkles that we just purchased from Macy's on Sunday as we got excited about your "collection" there. We thought about you and your mom while we shopped there. My prayers are with you and your family.

My heart goes out to you Martha.
I lost my brother almost 20 years ago and will probably lose my father some time this year (he is struggling with ALS). I know you have lost people before, it is an unavoidable part of living. Know that although the pain will never leave you, it will change into something more manageable and you will be blessed with her loving memory. Be thnkful that she was well and not suffering. My Grandma is 98 and we call her the energizer bunny. You mom reminds me of her. Good luck and hug everyone around you.

Dear Martha - I learned of your mother's passing on your show today - my heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my mother 4 1/2 years ago, and not a day goes by that I don't think of her. God bless Big Martha - and little Martha too.
Anne

Martha and Family,

I want to offer my condolences to you and your family.

I lost my mom almost five years ago. She died the day before Christmas Eve. I am part German so it was the worst Christmas for me and my family. We celebrate on Christmas Eve. I was very close to my mom. She was a wonderful person, great cook, and my best friend. She taught me so much with cooking and in life. I carry on her traditions and use her recipes during the holiday. The last holiday I spent with my mom was Thanks Giving.

I saw and felt that your mom and you where close. You could see the wonderful qualities that your mom had. She was kind, a great cook, had a lust for life, was not just a mother but a friend, and always had advice to give.

May God Bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

God Bless you Martha.

Dear Martha,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a wonderful woman. I looked so forward to every time she appeared on your show, seeing the love you both had for each other, and your family. She was so full of life and wisdom. Guess it was her no nonsense approach to every aspect of her life that intrigued me. Her stories are precious gems that will always be part of my memories. You all have such wonderful memories that she has imparted to your family. Again my heart goes out to you and your family during the passing of this great woman.

Martha, I just found out today as I was watching your show about the loss of your mother "Big Martha". As I watched I cried for you and myself. One year ago November 18th I lost my own mother to Altzheimer's disease. I want you to know how blessed you are to have had such a remarkable, capable mother untill the end. I cried for both of us and what we have lost. Your Mom was so special, and many times I had thought, "If only I could have shared special moments like that". My mom had been gone for 7 years or so prior to her death, and I would give so much to have those precious moments back..... God bless you and all your family Martha. Celebrate your mom on Thanksgiving as we did last year and will from now on. You will all be in my prayers. Vicki Hartzell Beaverton, Oregon.

dear martha and family..so sorry to hear about your mom. she was very sweet and had so much knowledge.. loosing your mom is a void that can never be filled. i lost mine 6 years ago at the the of 54, yet she still continues to teach me things in life. take comfort in that. keep up the good work you do.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Big Martha was a delight to watch on your show. A beautiful woman in her younger years and at age 93. She will be sadly missed.

Denise Oake-Pereira and Family

Martha,
I have been an avid fan of yours for many years. I've been an English teacher for 38 years (still going strong), and when my last class leaves at 12:20, I can't wait to turn on my TV in my classroom and watch the last part of your show while I have lunch.
I'm so sorry about the passing of your mom. In many ways, she reminded me of my own mother. "Big Martha" was an amazing woman, who taught us the art of aging well. She was still bending over to touch her toes, going to the "Y" to swim, and making her little jokes with you while laughing a lot on your shows. I LOVE her recipes, especially the cabbage rolls and meatloaf! She will certainly be missed. Our parents really never leave us because they are part of what we are.
Thank you for sharing her with us so often!!!

I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Big Martha always reminded my of my late grandma (also a Martha), kind of no-nonsense in a very loving way. It's so hard. You and your family are in my thoughts.

I lost my Polish mother in May. She often regretted her own mother passed away too young for her to have learned how to cook and bake like she did (recipes all in her head). She and I enjoyed so much watching you and your Polish mother cook and bake some of the old-fashioned favorites. We got such a kick out of your Mom, such a natural yet down-to-earth. It was like having those traditions brought right into our home. My sympathies on your loss; she was quite a woman!

Dear Martha,
I cried when I saw the tribute to your mom today. Seeing her so much on your show made me feel as though I had lost a close friend. Your mom was such a lovely and talented lady and I am grateful that we were able to get to know her through your show. I will be keeping you and your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you all and send you his peace as you go through this difficult time.

Dear Martha,
I am sending you my deepest sympathy on your loss of your dear mother.
I feel that I have been sort of a neighbor of your old residence on Elm Place in Nutley. I have done a lot of painting for your aunt Estelle Burke and your next door neighbor for which I attended his funeral. Your aunt was also there but you were unable to attend. I have also painted many other of your neighbors including Richard Leber across the street. Spending so much time on your former street I feel like I was one of your neighbor. On many occasions your aunt had talked about you.
So it is with a very personal feeling that I am sending you this
wish of sympathy.

Most sincerely,
Guy R. van der Meulen

p.s. I have also watched many of your wonderful segments with your mother on your show.
Today's show was tremendously moving of which I am sure she is smiling down on.

Thank you for sharing your mother with us for so many years. We all enjoyed watching the segments with her sharing family customs, recipes and traditions. Whether stirring a pot of stew or kneading dough for pierogies, there was always a twinkle in her eye.
Prayers and condolences go to the entire Koystra & Stewart family. Sincerely,
Susan Walker
PS..if there are any turkeys in heaven, Big Martha will stuff them!

Dear Ms. Stewart:
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I enjoyed seeing her on your show. My deepest sympathy to you & your family.

I learned of your mother's death this weekend. I was so surprised today that your show wasn't a rerun...you always amaze me, you are such a phenomenal woman. I loved the tribute you put together for your Mom...she always reminded me of my Mom who's Polish and 85 years old. My mother kneads dough likes her, pinches the pierogi just as quickly, and throws in a Polish word or two while we're in the kitchen together.
My heartfelt sympathy, thank you for sharing your mother with us.

Dear Martha, I'm shock reading this sad news.My deepest syampathy.I'm your no.1 fan in the Canary Is.of Tenerife.I loved to see your mom cooking, specially pierogis. She was a very sweet person.

I am so sorry to hear of about your mother. It is really strange, but she has been on my mind lately since you announced she was in the hospital. I hadn't heard you give any reports about her and then this. I am so truly sorry - I know your mother ment to what mine means to me. I also know your heart is hurting and everyone will miss her very much.

Dear Martha and Family, so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. I always enjoyed segments with her and yourself, watching the mother daughter interchanges, and seeing how much you enjoyed being together. Everytime she smiled i saw your smile. She was a great lady and even without personal knowledge of her or yourself she somehow endeared herself to us the viewer. Thoughts and prayers go out to you. God Bless and comfort you

I just learned from watching today's show, November 19, 2007, that your Mom died and want to express my sincere, heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
You may recall that I had the honor and privilege of interviewing your Mom way back in August of 1999 when I visited your studio in Westport. She was a warm, intelligent and wonderful "lady" and left a special place in my heart.

Warmest regards.

With love, Dorothy

My Dearest Martha,

I writing you through tears after I head you announce your Mom's passing, but please know these are tears of compassion and shared with wonderful memories of you and your Mom.

My first impluse was to ring my own Mother, but I had to stop and catch myself because I lost both my wonderful Mom and Grandmother last February 12th.

My grandmother was famous for her art as a seamstress and her spaghetti and pound cake and my mom was renowned for her cooking of vegetables and casseroles and her love of collecting.

Sunday mornings were always Mom's and my time to share and catch up and many times we talked about what we had cooked or collected that week and frequently one of us would say, "Did you watch Martha this week/" or "you know Martha says..."

The holidays will truly be a challenge this year as the first holidays without them. This week I'll be busy going through my mom's holiday ornaments and her collections of milk glass, depression glass, spode, McCoy and blue and white pieces and sharing them with my siblings and nieces and nephews.

Like your mom, my mom and grandmother were known for their love of home making and of their service to others.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful mom with us and I know you'll find great comfort in the beautiful memories you have of her.

Your relationship with your mom and your shows, books and magazines helped create a special bond between this grateful son and his mother.

Sincerely,

David Barwick

Dear Martha,

My heart and prayers go out to you and your entire family. I lost my mom when I was only 34 and so admired yours.
Keep you family close to you and remember the special times that you all had together.

Sincerely,

EB

My thoughts are with you Martha at this sad time. Someone said "the apple never falls far from the tree" and after seeing your Mom, I think it is true. She was a strong tree and gave you deep roots. I can now see how you inherited many of her traits and talents. God Bless your family.

Dear Martha and Family,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss when I watch The Martha Stewart show today. Your mother was such a wonderful woman to watch along side of you. Seeing you together, you could tell how you loved and truly enjoyed each other. Please know my prayers are with you and your family at this time of loss. Thank your for all the wonderful and inspirational segments you do and your beautiful magazines you publish. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Aloha Martha,
Today when I turned in to watch your show I found out about your dear mothers passing. I am so very sorry for your families lost, and pray that the Lord will be with each and everyone of you as you deal with her passing.
What a wonderful woman your mother was. Loved to watch your shows even more when Big Martha was on it. She will be so missed!!
We have a saying in Hawaii, its

Dear Martha and Family: I was shocked and saddened so deeply to hear of your Mother's passing. She made so many people happy outside of your family as well. Martha, I always could tell that she was as proud of you as a daughter as you were of her as a Mother. How wonderful for you to have had such treasured family memories and deep love to always hold in your heart and minds. She will be deeply missed by all of us, more people than even you could possibly imagine. I wish I could hug you. I'm so very sorry. God be with you all during this difficult time.

I was saddened this afternoon while watching your program to hear of your mother's passing. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this time. Big Martha I can only imagine is smiling down on us.

What fascinated me more with both of you and your mother is your relationship, and how special it is.
Your a strong woman Ms Stewart I pray you take some time for yourself and grieve nothing is more important than the gift of love you and mother gave to each other. Not everyone has the opportunity of that kind of experience. Consider yourself special.

Ulihelisdi (Joyful)

Happy Thanksgiving Ms Stewart.

Dear Martha,

My deepest condolences to you and your family in the passing of your mother.

I greatly enjoyed watching you and your mom on your show over the years. She had a great sense of humor and was incredibly skillful. The acorn does not fall far from the tree. I'm sure she was very proud of you and I know how much you and the rest of your family will miss her.

All my best to you and your family this holiday season. I know you will celebrate her life in everything you do. Thank you for all you have done, all you have taught us and for sharing your life's adventures with us.

Warm regards,
Effie Peterson

We wish to send you Love and Comfort at this time. How fortunate we feel to have enjoyed the many segments of you and your Mother together. We will indeed once again, for years to come, enjoy "Big Martha's" wonderful recipes. GOD Bless.

My Dearest Martha,
We are so sorry for your loss and we will never forget your Mother! Mothers are the soul of our beginings and will never leave us. I lost my Mother at her age of 48 and now I am almost there (47) and think what a young age! Keep strong and remember all the great times there were and we will all be praying for you and your family.

All my love and best wishes
Greg Whitney

Dear Martha, I did not know of your lovely mother's passing until I looked on your web site as I do every day. We are not able to see your show in our area anymore & I really miss it. I was so sorry to hear or Big Martha's passing on to Heaven. I really enjoyed seeing her on your show in the past. She will be really missed by all. Bless all of your family, JoAnn

Martha, my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you. For years, my sisters and precious mom have watched you and Big Martha, thinking we must be related. My older sis shares your birthday, and Mom came from sturdy Polish parents. I sent her a subscription of Living every year for Christmas and we went over the Polish recipes with interest. Our little mom is in the hospital after open heart surgery, so we know the anxiety of watching and waiting.
Big Martha was a joy to watch, and she will be missed. God bless and comfort you,
Barbara Gerber

I wanted to send my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
It was always wonderful to see you two cooking together and you could tell just by watching how close you were with your mother.
God bless you all.

Dear Martha,

I am so sorry to hear your mom.

Whenever I watch your show with your mom, I wish I could be a good daughter like you.

I will call my mom tonight, and tell her that you were cooking with Kimchi. She is in Korea, and I am living here in Texas. I miss her everyday, but I miss her more now.....

Thank you for your wonderful work and also sharing this time with us.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I have always enjoyed when she appeared on your tv show. I miss my mother dearly and the time we spent baking during the holiday season. God Bless

Pleaes accept my sincere sympathy in the passing of your mother. We always think of our mothers as forever young, that nothing will happen to them. May God be with you and get you through this difficult time.

Dear Martha: I just heard the deeply heavy news on the loss of your Mother.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences from here at nativegiftbaskets.com.

There is nothing to compare to the loss of our Mothers.

Know that all you have achieved in your niche, is all directly due to her.

What a wonderful gift she gave to you. That is her legacy. She will live on in everything you have already accomplished and everything you will accomplish in the future.

So too, with Alexis, and her future offspring.

Do all the deep crying you need to do, now. Cleanse yourself, let it all flow, at whatever volume.

Be the strong one by showing how vulnerable you can be, by letting your deep pain flow out at this time. It will cleanse you and it create an outlet for your pain, and that is where you will strengthen youself in the process.

Know, too, she is merely gone in body, and her true self, is simply gone on before the rest of us, to the next step in the process.

Kind regards and deepest sympathies,

Kathleen Tekakwitha Meloche

We viewers share your loss. "Big Martha" was always a delight whenever she appeared on your program. We will miss her. God rest her soul and comfort your family. What a lovely tribute to her you presented this morning with excerpts from her appearances and with "Once Upon A Time" sung and played so beautifully as an accompaniment. You are remarkable to be able to appear so calm at this difficult time.
Sincerely, Philip M. Riddle

Dear Martha
I am so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She left you a wonderful legacy.

My condolences on the loss of your mother. I lost my mother 2 years ago a few months before my 30th birthday. Like you I had a very close relationship with my mother and not a day goes by that I do not think of her and smile. I hope in time you are able to do the same. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this holiday season.

Dear Martha and Family,
Please accept my condolences on the
loss of your amazing Mother, Martha. Not only was she a joy to
watch, but also continued to teach
and inspire your audience with
her sharp wit and humor. "A teacher never stops teaching", and she always did so in such an entertaining way! May her memory
continue to inspire others.

My thoughts are with your family while you grieve. I know she is in our Father in Heavens' loving care. She has been a great steward of his spirit children and her task on this earth is accomplished.

Martha and family,

My deepest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of 'Big Martha'. I was very saddened to hear of her passing. I love(d) watching the two Martha's in the the kitchen and listening to the stories.

Martha, I was so saddened to hear of your mother's passing. She was such a wonderful person - so warm and funny and so talented - it's so obvious where you got your talent! I hope your mother realized just how special she was to so many people. In a sense, she had thousands of "sons" and "daughters". What a wonderful legacy.

Both my daughter and I admire you and what you've accomplished. My mother lived a full and productive life until she died five years ago at age 97. We and you are lucky to have had such fine women to inspire and teach us. This weekend is my 75th birthday and I'll probably always remember your sweet mother on that anniversary. We'll think of her as we prepare for Thanksgiving.
Fondly, Gloria

Dear Martha,

My deepest condolences to you and your family in the passing of your mother.

I just learned about it while logging onto your web site for some holiday ideas. I have fond memories of "Big Martha." She always provided such useful and heartwarming holiday tips and stories. I will miss that! I am sure that she would be happy to know that she has touched so many lives with these stories. We will certainly treasure the legacy she so eloquently left behind in you and your family for many years to come.

God Bless,

My condolences and prayers are with you and your family. I lost my mother recently, and even though I am grateful for having had her as my best friend, I have lost such a great source of wisdom and comfort. God bless, and thanks for all you do.

I am sorry for your loss. In watching the retrospect on today's show I was struck by your mother's remarkable youth, wit and knowledge. She undoubtedly influenced not just the entire Kostyra family but many viewers as well.

Martha,
Like all of your fans I am shocked and sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I found out about it while watching your Thanksgiving special. I am sure since God wants good ones up there she is helping in his kitchen too! I enjoyed the charisma that you two shared, and hope your memories comfort you in your time of loss. I will as she will from Heaven, continue to watch you and your success. God Bless her and you.
Always, Janice Little

Dear Martha,
I was at the taping of your show today and what a beautiful tribute you had to your mom. She was a wonderul lady! I was there with my mother and it made me think about how everyday and everything we do together will be cherished memories when she is no longer with me. My sincere condolences,

I am so sorry to hear the loss of your mother. My mother also passed away during the holiday season, and I know how much it hurts.

I was so afraid she might pass away during the time you were in prison. But she didn't! Did you ever hear "It's just mind over matter...If you don't mind, it don't matter” She stayed until you were home and safe and better...much, much better. Martha, your tenacity is a tribute to her life. Her life is a reflection of who she was but also who she helped you to be. I am proud just to have lived in your lifetime. Keep going girl...you're doing great!!

She will always live in your heart and has proven without doubt that she will never, ever leave you alone.

In her memory...Would you consider dedicating more of your time on nutrition and exercise for optimum longevity? Obviously, you & your mom have excellent genes and great minds- I would really appreciate and enjoy your suggestions on eating and exercise.

Take care of yourself, do the things she told you to, cry a little, laugh a lot, and take credit for being a great daughter and the light in her eyes.

Love,
Karen

I lost my Mom a week after Mother day this year. She had started me in my life of cooking and it wasn't until she past I found how much I cook her recipe (my way). And with Holidays here, memories of her from past flood in. You're luck to have her on film to be with her again. Blessing on Big Martha's family.

Dear Martha, Alexis and Family,

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Martha Kostyra, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend.

I also lost my Mother at this same time of year in 2002.

At Thanksgiving every year I am always so very thankful for the times I spent with my Mom making our traditional Thanksgiving feast and learning our family traditions, which I now am passing on to my two daughters.

I will always include your Mother, as well as mine, in my Thanksgiving Prayer.

Sincerely,
Mary Ann

I am saddened to hear of the loss of your inspiring mother. My heart goes out to you.

Dear Martha (and family),

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your mother, and please know that her appearances on your show will be sorely missed. To watch her interact with you in only the way a mother and daughter can these past years was truly a joy.

There were several things I loved about watching 'Big Martha'-- too many to recount here-- but there are a few that must be mentioned.

'Big Martha' appeared to possess energy in remarkable abundance-- this clearly discernible even through the medium of television. (I can only imagine what a force of nature she was to encounter in real life!) She clearly possessed a zest for life, and her 'to-the-point', 'no-nonsense' personality was wonderful to behold.

One got the feeling from watching 'Big Martha' that her opinions could be both valued and trusted. Witty and warm, she always seemed to me to be among the rarest of God's creatures-- one who was true to herself. I always imagined her dashing through life with relish and determination.

What great fortune your entire family has had in having such a wonderful role-model present in your lives for so long. I cannot help but be certain that if 'Big Martha' could have left anything of herself behind, they would be these three: her love of her family, her adoration of life, and the passion with which she so obviously lived hers. It is my hope that you embrace and carry on these special qualities as her legacy to you all.

Martha,

My most sincere condolences to you and your whole family. I wish your family comfort and solace in this holiday season. Losing a mother is, at the very least, excruciating. May your heart heal and the happy memories come forward in your mind.

Hi Martha...

I wanted to write to you after hearing your sad news this am on your show. I had heard your mom had a stroke, but I guess I was hoping that she would recover and we would be seeing her again. I have always enjoyed her segments on your show. And I have always loved how you have shared your show with her and told us how much you have learned from her and shown your great love and admiration for her.

I have a 93 year old mother, also, and she means the world to me, so I feel your loss.

Your segment this morning was really beautiful with all the photos and demos with your mom.
She was a darling wonderful warm
person, I could tell. And I have so much respect for the amount of love you always showed for her. I know you will miss her so much.

My thoughts are with you.

My heart goes out to you and all of your family in this time of sorrow. I lost my mother in July of 1998 and althought she wasn't up there in age she was a vibrant and loving person. Your mother reminds me so much of mine and I thought of her each and everytime your mother was on your show.. God be with here and all of you.

Martha I am so very sorry to hear about your mothers passing. She seemed like a great lady, and i would have loved to have gotten the pleasure of meeting her. It seemed as though you had a great relationship. Treasure the memories, they can never be taken away from you. Sorry again for your loss.

Thank you for sharing your mother with us, it has been a pleasure watching her and gaining from her wisdom. May you all find comfort in this time of sorrow. My sincere condolances to you and your family.

Our mothers impact our lives and those of others whom we touch. Your mother, Martha Kostyra, will be remembered as an inspiration to all of your viewers and fans. It was always a kick to see the two of you cook together!

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family in your time of grief.

Martha,

My condolences go out to you and your family. I just clicked on to your website and saw the news. I was home watching your show the day you did the segment on aging and thought I really hope my grandmother (who raised me) gets to live til 93. I know her passing will come as a shock whenever it happens. All good mother-daughter relationships are a continual cycle of learning and teaching and I believe that, that cycle does not end when one passes on. Her wisdom and spunk towards life will stay with you forever (not that you're missing much). I hope you have an easy holiday and reflect on the great legacy she left you.
Thank you for all that you and your mother have passed on to us.

Dearest Martha,I just want you to know,I saw your tribute to your mother, and I am a motherless child ,and have been for 54 years of my 59 yrs. I saw how wonderful, for you to have had your mother these years. To be able to still know her touch, remember her smell, and her voice, though it is bittersweet, that God choose Nov 17 for her sunset, but do know ,she will be there, Thanksgiving , as always. Love and Respect. Olivia Rich

My sympathies on the loss of Big Martha. I loved the show that was put together to honor her today. I was in tears, as I was reminded of the fun I enjoyed with my own mom while she was still alive. Saying goodbye to our moms is never easy, regardless of age.

My mom was born on the same day as Big Martha, but in 1940.

I cannot imagine what you are going through right now. Your mother seemed like such a lovely woman to have to look up to. All the best to you and your family. And thank you for making homemaking special again and being an inspiration for so many.

Martha, my heart is sorrowful in learning your wonderful mom is gone. She will always be a part of your heart and soul, and you can be comforted that she loved you every single moment of her lively 93 years. God be with you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear about your Ma's passing. You guys had the best relationship.

It makes me think that I have to get back in-touch with my Ma to get things said before she passes.

Again, so, so sorry!

I am very sad to hear of your loss. Your mother was an amazing woman she taught me many things over the years. My condolances to your family.
