Come see my Dogs!
On this past Thursday’s television show, we had such a good time. It was the annual Martha Stewart dog show. The audience was very special because it was comprised of people and their pet dogs, all of which were rescued from bad situations. Of course, Francesca, Sharkey, and Paw-Paw were in attendance and I thought you might enjoy seeing some photos of some of my dogs who have given me so much pleasure and companionship throughout the years.

Gorgeous, Paw Paw is lovely, I had two Chow's years ago and they have the most dignified but hilarious personalities. Hope to have more one day:) Rachael

What a cute video and I enjoyed looking through the pictures. The puppy picture (6th going from the bottom to the top) - is that PawPaw or a new chow puppy? Precious.
Are Chow's good with children? Do they shed a lot?
Thanks for sharing.

Dogs truely are great companions. I love the video with the dogs running through the snow. I have seven siberian huskies and they are really appreciating the large amounts of snow we have here in Maine.

Martha,
Thanks for the photos of Paw Paw, Francesca, and Sharkey as well as your other dogs. They are adorable. My two dogs watched the program and listened to Francesca and Sharkey. All of us enjoyed it immensely!

Martha,
It was such a joy to see your show with all the lovely rescue dogs! I always enjoy seeing Sharkey, Francesca and Paw Paw as well. My dog has brought so much joy and happiness to my life. I am so thrilled to see they way yours have brightened your life also! Thanks for sharing!

Paw Paw is so cute when Francesca wants to play with him; he sort of just tolerates her. Your chows were all beautiful and the Frenchies are adorable. I still have one of your old TV shows with Zu Zu in it. You called her name and she tilted her head to the side and looked right into the camera. She had such a pretty face. The dog show was so good yesterday and I look forward to next Wednesday when David Frye from Westminster will be back. Trish

Your Frenchies are just beautiful. I own a boston terrier and a pug, so I am a lover of all the squashed-faced varieties of dogs.

Sweet! I have a Lhasa apso, the same breed my family had when I was a kid. So Sparky is my third one. And just like your Chows, Lhasa apsos have a tradition of having been palace guards for Tibetan monks.

Martha,
I had a great laugh listening to your dog show yesterday evening on Sirius. I had to go online to put faces to all of the sweet, touching stories that were told about the rescue dogs. It's great, too, to see photos of your lovely dogs! They are such characters. Thank you for sharing -- love your blog!

Martha,
Thank you for bringing attention to rescue pets. I truly believe it should be illegal for anyone to purchase an animal while there are so many loving (free) pets without homes. Owning a pet should never be about pedigree or fashion, it should be about love and compassion. I'm not sure if Paw Paw, Francesca and Sharkey are rescue dogs, but Martha I'd love to see you rescue a dog or cat in the future to add to your family.
Posted by: Kim | February 08, 2008 at 09:43 AM
You know Martha if you put your stamp of approval on any pet product-well maybe not reptile--I would dash out and find them. Would that not be a hoot to see a pasture of horses all wearing summer sheets with your logo. My horse wouldn't mind just as long as it wasn't too girlie. Then of course we would have to have matching dog and cat coats. Too cool you are. Thanks as always.

Martha, I loved your show on dogs,
I have a very special Dog that I rescued and He rescued me. I had lost my Daughter and Husband 3 months apart from each other, needless to say was very depressed, than I rescued this little dog (socks) and he helped me out of a deep depression. We helped each other. So your love for dogs is shared deeply. Thanks for the wonderful show .

Hi Martha,
I really enjoy seeing and reading about all your pets.
I especially love your donkeys.
Like you, I can not imagine my life without my dog, Chance, a 118 lbs. Black Labrador Retriever.
No matter how good or bad my day has been, it is always wonderful when I arrive home to an eruption of excitement and love waiting for me when I open the door.
As a three-month-old puppy, I found Chance on a roadside after being hit by a car. Although his back legs were crushed, and both hip were broken, he mended extremely well with the help of very caring and talented veterinarian. He is very spoiled and much loved.
Take Care,
Jon

I had the good fortune of meeting Sharkey, Frencesca and Paw-Paw at the Good Things Event. Paw-Paw is my favourite, undoubtedly. I just get lost in those eyes!
I couldn't believe how well-behaved they all were at the event with all those people, all that noise, all that attention. I took some great photos of all the women gathering around Paw-Paw for a touch of that gorgeous coat.
Kings should be so lucky!

Martha,
I just loved the dog show! Your dogs are so beautiful! I have 2 yellow labradors (both of them were rescued) and I greatly appreciate you showcasing the rescue dogs. I wish my dogs could play in the snow!!! It looks like so much fun... but we don't get much snow down here in Texas!!! Keep up the great work with the blog! Love it!

Postee Jenn- Chows are wonderful with children if supervised we have raised chow chows in our family for over 30 years not to show them but just as members of our family. My folks have 50 grandchildren and our chows have never bothered a child in any way give your dog a lot of love and affectio, they are protectors of those they love and are fiercely loyal to your family. Raise a chow as a puppy with a child or other animals that is best. There are many chows out there that need good loving homes.
Martha & Laura- THANK YOU for posting the chow and bull dog photos I am in doggie splendor I came over to check the blog just now and was so jazzed to see chows love the one of them in the sled gotta use it on my screensaver so yup going to "borrow"Please and thank you. it and use it on my screensaver along with my own chow photos. Thank you for sharing the pix. Loved the dog show yesterday. I hope you feature more adoption shows for dogs ,cats, horses whatever so many need loving and good homes.
Paw Paw rules and Martha don't forget Dreamer(chow winner of best in class last year Westminster) has a sister you could adopt her for Paw Paw you know!

Hi Martha, I so loved your pictures of your dogs. I caught the piece today on the chimps and the efforts to save them. That sounds like an amazing show, can't wait to watch it. Are you familiar with The Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida? It is an amazing place that saves exotic large cats that have been abused or abandoned in the U.S. I know you would appreciate their work. Please go check out their website, maybe you can do a piece on them at some point. My daughter and I who live here in Erie, Pa toured their place in Tampa a few years ago while on vacation and we became huge advo"cat"s, I think you will be too. www.bigcatrescue.org

Being an dog rescuer, I want to thank you for encouraging others to rescue and adopt animals. Those beautiful animals deserve a much better life. I love all of the photos of your dogs and I, too, can't imagine my life without my dogs. Thanks so much for sharing. Jan

Paw Paw, we know you are too regal to ever chase the donkeys. The little Frenchies will learn. We still want to grow up to be Chows, we envy the black tongue! Continue guarding your home, we defend the Montana front. Your dachshound fans.

Ohhh I just loved your pic..the show today was wonderful! I'm both a cat and dog person...we have 5 cats and 2 dogs..all rescued! Both of our dogs are reg dogs from puppy mills! How awful it is...we paid full price for both..One a yorkie and one a Cairn terrier. Our little Barney Cairn terrier has had to have so many hip surgeries because of the over breeding..So very sad..but thankfully we have the money to pay for these and care for them..Same as our cats...2 tiger, 2 beautiful Persians, one Himalayan. The one tiger had her back leg removed due to cancer...Thank you Martha for your wonderful show..Maybe we all can do much better in caring for our fur-babies!

Martha,
I have a rescued dog too, her name is Cassie, I have been told that she is part Border Collie, lab, and Dachshund. I love this little dog so much, she sleeps me, and when I travel and have to leave her, I miss her more than my husband :).

( Any chance of there being a cat show ? )
Also , I am painting my kitchen for the first time and would love to know what the colors are of your kitchen on the show. I love the beige/browns/ and off-whites together. THey must be Martha Stewart paints-- please what colors ?

Martha,
Thank you for sharing such lovely photos of your beloved dogs. Your recent show with dogs and their "pets" was upbeat and timely. I am not a dog owner (we belong to a calico cat, Mimi) but certainly respect them as loyal companions. Many folks here in Atlanta, Georgia are ashamed of the incident with dog fighting we have had to deal with. Your show cast a postive light on how dogs should be loved and cared for.

Those dogs are beautiful. Makes me want to use one for a "live" pillow.
Must be a GREAT SNUGGLER. I love shetland sheepdogs. I have one. It takes a good 1 1/2 hrs just to comb his hair out after a good bath!! The reward---ahhh--a beauty like yours. He can be sooo trying at times but I couldn't do without him.
Now thats a first.

Martha, I believe I once met one of your Chows at a softball game w/ the Norwoods' here in Ellsworth. Those pics of the Chow pups-just adorable; and the Frenchies w/ the donkeys-too funny! My four dogs (a Maltese, 2 CavalierKCS, and a St. Poodle) could not be more precious to me. Along with my Himalayans-my life feels full. I cannot imagine a life without my fur friends. Thanks so much for sharing yours.

Hi Martha,
Thank you for bringing awareness to America's shelter dogs. It was an amazing show! Honeybear and Boom were very adorable. Will you be giving us an updated on the featured dogs looking for a forever home? I'm sure there are alot inquiring minds that would like to know.

For years my heart has melted when I've seen pictures of Paw Paw. We lost our 16 year old golden chow a few years ago, and Paw Paw reminds me SO much of her. These photographs are gorgeous and really made me smile.

Martha,
Your dogs are truly beautiful and I never tire of seeing and hearing about them.
I once met Max and everytime I saw you at a Martha event, I always asked you "how's Max?". I remember he lived a long and happy life.
I love to see Paw Paw and the Frenchies. In fact watching Westminister Dog Show tonight, the Frenchie made everyone laugh by putting on the dog brakes with all four paws!
We have 5 Yorkshire terries (from 7 originally). Two are rightfully named Martha and Stewart and everyone that knows me, knows why I named them that!
I especially liked your last photo of Sharkey and Paw Paw. What a cute photo! Thanks again for all your photos and great shows on animal adoption and awareness.
God bless your beautiful pets.

Good Morning Mother of Paw Paw, Francesca and Sharkey,
So pleased to see your canine trio and their predecessors lined up for show on your blog! -- and look at you with 3 puppies!
I have a collage I made of you, Paw Paw, Francesca and Sharkey which I photographed at a Boston event. I'll post it on my blog so you might see. It will be nice too, since my blog this month is in support of your animal activism and pet publication 'Big Idea'.
Take a peek at http://andreajetspencer.blogspot.com/
Have a memoryload of fun at Westminster tonight! So sorry I can't be there this year. My Weimaraner Moses saw a family member of his in the finals with S.Thomas of Camelot fame not long back. Enjoy the many lines of champions that this year has in store!

I have 4 children 6years and under and we had so much fun watching the annual dog show! Last night we watched the Westminster dog show and they mentioned that the french bull dog appeared on your show. We are also animal lovers we have a persian & himalayan cat and this christmas we got a Dalmation. I was wondering where we can get the dog ornaments that were on the show at the very end?? We collect dog figurines.

Martha, it was truly a pleasure and an honor to be on your dog show. My husband and I enjoyed it so much. Your staff are so pleasant and accommodating. Your studio is so big and beautiful just as I would expect you would have it. You are truly a gracious women and we had a wonderful time. I hope to come to New York to your show again sometime. They had taken photos of the dogs, including our Lacey, I was wondering if they were going to be put on your website. Again Thank You for a most memorable time. Terri

Hi, Martha!
I really loved watching your show dedicated to "man's best friend." The pups in the audience (and yours and friends' on the stage) really seemed to be having a great time! Your dogs are beautiful and seem so sweet and loving. It takes time and love from owners to get them to behave so well, and it's obvious how much they get of each. :)

Hi Martha! My name is Amber, and I live in Minnesota with my 5 year old papillon Willy. We watch your show every day, and LOVE when you have your dogs on. I am so happy that you take time to address issues of responsible dog ownership! I am a professional dog groomer, and my friend Bethany is a professional dog trainer and breeder. One thing that we both notice as a daily occurance is that most people have little or no idea what they should be feeding their pets. There is one brand in particular that has a great reputation (I will not name it) and people trust it. The first ingredient is corn! Dogs don't eat corn. When I educate people about nutrition, most are shocked and saddened to learn that they are not feeding their beloved pets the very best. I am currently trying to set up a day in my city to hold a AKC responsible pet ownership day. It would be wonderful if you would address some of these pet nutritional needs on your show. I know there are so many people out there that would feed their pets better if they had some idea of what their pet's nutritional requirements are! I would love to help you out if you have any questions. Thank you so much for your time!
Sincerely,
Amber

From all the messages Paw Paw gets I think he needs his own fan club. Martha you have two Frenchies are you going to add another Chow Chow so you can have two of each? I love when I see Paw Paw and your other chows in the past because you have helped show that this breed is not the mean vicious breed so many people tried to make it out to be, but have shown when raised properly they are nothing more than big loveable teddy bears. I cannot imagine my life without a chow chow in it.

Dear Martha,
We were fortunate enough to have owned a chow 15 years ago. He was a wonderful dog and loved everybody. We have come to the point where we'd like to have a chow in our lives again. Would you happen to know a reputable chow breeder? We haven't had any luck finding one.
Thank you for your help.
All the best,

I love your Chows Martha but you must come see my Puli, she is a Hungarian Sheepdog and her name is Whoopie. Yes, as in Goldberg she has the long spiral curls that can be woven into dreadlocks. Whoopie is the black dog in the middle of my pictures of dogs on the first page, all you can see is her tongue and a happy face. Love your show, and your dogs especially.

dear martha, i am a veterinarian assistant from wisconsin. i was watching your show on feb. 27 and i heard you make a comment about taking your animals to the vet. you said that if the animal doesn't seem happy and excited to go to see the vet, then there must be a problem or something wrong with the dr. i absolutely disagree with that comment. we see dogs and cats on a regular basis that DO NOT want to come in and see us but that doesn't mean that WE have done anything wrong to them. it could be something that happened to them somewhere else or most of the time, it's just because they haven't been socialized and they are afraid of ANY new experience. to say in general that they don't want to enter because we have done something to them is not correct. thanks for hearing me!

I would like information on the breeder of your chow chow. Paw Paw is beautiful.

To the person who asked about French Bulldog Rescue Organizations -- the most well-known is French Bulldog Rescue Network
www.frenchbulldogrescue.org
They are an amazing organization that takes good care of many many rescued dogs, rehabilitates and rehomes them. They are now facing financial difficulties because of the huge number of frenchies coming into their hands due to the breed's popularity because of its exposure in the media -- puppy mills are a giant problem.
I'd love to see Martha mention the organization next time her dogs appear on the show, and it would be an ideal personal and corporate charity for her -- the organization, and the dogs they take care of, could really use the help.
