Readers of my blog seem to really enjoy the behind-the-scenes tours that are posted from time to time. I thought it would be fun to show you some of what goes on at my offices located in the landmark Starrett-Lehigh building overlooking the Hudson River in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. Dating from 1932, this amazing and massive structure occupies an entire city block and was constructed so that freight trains and trucks could enter the vast ground-floor freight yard to load and unload freight for the businesses located in the floors above. Natural light floods each floor through large, continuous bands of windows. With the eventual decline of New York industry, and the freight lines long since gone, the upper floors have been reconfigured to house many new businesses, including my own up on the ninth floor. This is where much design and creating work is done, where many photo and television shoots take place, and where the Internet Department is located. It’s a most inspiring place to work! Visit my blog later this week to see more photos!
This is my corner office facing north and west. I really love this
simple and open space. Here I am with my executive assistant, Julia
Eisemann going over about 1,000 different things!
This is the west view from my office – beautiful sunsets – beautiful
Hudson River. That’s New Jersey across the way, where I was born and
raised. Nutley is just a 15 minute drive.

Beautiful art deco curves on your building .... Is it the same building that the television show is filmed in?

Hi Martha, What beautiful photos of your offices in the Starrett-Lehigh Building. It reminds me of your wonderful show "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart". I remember seeing fantastic photos of the building, your offices, the views and Julia Eisemann. I wish we could see reruns of the show. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to more photos. Jan P.S. When is "Ask Martha" replayed on Sirius Radio 112? I tuned in at (1PM EST) 10PM (PST) tonight (Sun.) and there is an encore of "Eat Drink" playing right now. Thanks, Jan

Martha:
Are there considerations of having Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. offices in the Washington, DC Metro?

Martha,
How many birds---and what kinds--- did you count this weekend in the Great Backyard Birdcount?

Shoot Martha you could have chair races in there--your offices. Well that is what we did in college when we became punch drunk from studying. I guess you just use your row machine.
I bet it is fun just to stand and look out the window.

We go to your building a few times a year! Our company publishes a mens image magazine and we use a photographer on the 12th floor. We were there a few days last week doing our Spring photo shoot! I always think while riding the elevators that I might just see you, or your dogs -- but I never have. OH well -- I'm 1 of your BIGGEST fans! Oh and the studio faces west which makes for perfect lighting to show off our great clothing!

Martha, I love the way you 'never forget' where you came from. You may not realize it, but this simple act gives many people, myself included, 'hope'.

Who wouldn't want to work there!
Your office space is ideal.
Wow, talk about letting the sun shine in. The sleek lines of the architecture and minimalist approach to office decor complement each other superbly.
We were all treated to a peek of the MSO offices during the "Apprentice Martha Stewart" television program, and it is delightful to see and read more about the source of many
Good Things.
Take care,
Jon

Martha:)
What a view! The building is so impressive and your office is very commanding. But the view from your window is just magnificent. That picture is worthy of a frame and a place over any mantle. That sunset is what every girl wishes she could watch with the man she loves. Can't wait to see more photos tomorrow.

Beautiful, Martha!
It is really nice of you to open the doors and windows of your wonderful office. It does make me feel close to you even if I am on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Your office is definitely a great place. Now I know where your great ideas come from.
Those windows are enlightening. They are 'open doors' to your memories. Through those windows you bring the best of your memories to your work.
Have a great week,
Claudia

It's so great to see offices that provide such a healthy work environment, especially in Manhattan, where wide open spaces and abundant natural light are hard to come by! Your employees must be very pleased.
Thanks for sharing!

Martha,
Thanks for the peek of your office, I can't wait to see more! I love an "open" workspace; so much easier to navigate versus a land of "cubes"!
