Last March, I told you about Martyn, one of my majestic Friesian horses, and how he has been suffering from an inflamed rear hock. I have received many inquiries from concerned bloggers about his condition, so I thought I would give you an update regarding his condition. After a recent visit from my veterinarian, Elizabeth Kilgallon, Betsy, my stable manager, was told of a machine that might help speed Martyn’s healing process along. It’s called the Game Ready Equine system. www.gamereadyequine.com As you’ll see from the photos, this therapeutic machine utilizes an accelerated recovery system of dry/cold temperature with intermittent compression. Betsy tells me that after a few weeks of treatment, Martyn’s condition is improving! – the hock is softening and there is better range of motion. Jamie Miles, of Game Ready, stopped by to see how Martyn is doing, and he was quite pleased. Oh, and by the way, there is also a human version of this wonderful healing device called the Game Ready. www.gameready.com Jamie tells me that all the major league teams and individual players have, and regularly use, these Game Ready Systems to help keep their joints moving well.

Here is Jamie Miles, the regional sales rep of Game Ready, standing with sweet Martyn.
This is what the Game Ready Equine system looks like. You see, it’s really quite compact.
Water passes through the ice and into a hose.
These are the regulating buttons.
Jamie is inspecting Martyn’s compromised hock.
Here’s the hock wrapped within a sleeve, which is attached to the unit. The sleeve is circulated with cold, while intermittent compression is delivered from the machine.
Martyn doesn’t seem to mind his treatment one bit.

Martha:)
Glad to see that Martyn is doing better. I hope the GameReady does the job and gets him back into tip top shape.
I wonder if the GameReady would work for people with RA? I would be willing to give it a try if it did.
Martyn looks like he is enjoying the treatment. I'm sure he like the attention he gets from Betsy and Jamie when he has the cold cuff on his hock. And I'm betting that cold feels pretty good on that warm tender hock.
I will keep Martyn in my prayers and know that soon he will be back in the pasture again with the other beautiful animals.

I'm so glad that this machine can help Martyn. It looks as if it would really be the therapeutic way to relieve the inflamed hock. It looks like from the pictures that Martyn favors this leg; Can this problem be reversed so that he is sound and ridable? Martyn, I hope, will get relief from the Game Ready machine. Thanks for the update on Martyn. Nan

Martha I'm so happy to hear Martyn's condition is improving, what a beautiful horse. It just kills me to see any animal injured, they are so helpless. You are a wonderful "MOM" to your pets. How are Franchesca and Sharkey doing since the loss of Paw Paw? I know from experience that our pets morn just like we do, is there another Frenchie in their future?

Good Morning to the Black Horse Family -------
This remedy is GOOD NEWS. My clan's horses would have paid big dollars for such treatment years ago!!
Another investigatory means of healing you might mention to your doctors is Reliv International. I've been talking with doctors at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and Reliv microbiologists from Poland about an ANIMAL APPLICATION for this human 'miracle' food science.
As a skeptical person I am highly impressed with the results of this amazing nutritional 'tend to it' healer !!!
Have you visited the Tufts Large Animal Unit in North Grafton, Massachusetts? You would walk in awe amidst horse births and giants of animals hoisted by machine hammocks for examination. Horse trailers drive right into exam rooms!!
In an ANIMAL PHOTO A DAY RAMPAGE for you through MSLLETTERS, I have sent you no such medical visuals as yet. Will try to find you some high tech EQUINE graphics for the curious mind.
In the meantime, the other good things will be there for you on http://andreajetspencer.blogspot.com, daily, and as always.
Love to the Colors of Night Running Carousel Round Around !!

Hi, Martha,
Thanks for the update about Martyn's inflamed hock. He certainly is a majestic Friesian. This treatment sounds so helpful for him. It reminds me of physical therapy treatments with ice and compression. Good luck to Martyn for a speedy and full recovery.

Game Ready is awesome for humans too! It was a part of my physical therapy last year when I was recovering from knee surgery.
I hope it works as well for your horse as it worked for me.

Martyn does look content in the last picture as if to say, 'ah, that felt good!' I hope he will soon be pain free and running with the other horses. Trish

Well here is to Martyn running and kicking up his heels. Watch out Francesca and Sharkey those hind feet are going to fly.

Hi Martha,
Wishing a speedy recovery to Martyn. He is so beautiful.
When we think of the amount of weight their legs carry, it is amazing. So having an injury is probably very painful to them.
I know you care alot for your animals. Kindest regards to you and Martyn.

Yes, I can also attest that the Game Ready system is definitely wonderful--like another commenter, I used it myself a few years ago when recovering from a knee injury. It made an immediate improvement in the range of motion, which was fantastic. I sincerely hope that it helps gorgeous Mr. Martyn as much as it helped me!

Loved reading about the Equine Game Ready! They really work. I am using one as I write this comment. On 4/22 I underwent surgery for massive rotator cuff repair, transplant of an allograft jacket, and a few screws for good measure. The wonderful young surgeon, Joseph Burns, did all of this arthroscopically!!! There's only a few in the country who can. He also ordered the Game Ready machine for me to use. The results are dramatic! It sounds like Marilyn is doing as well with hers as I am with mine. Don't you just love it when your vet / surgeon is on top of their game.

Glad to hear that Martyn is doing well, I used a gameready on my knee after re-tearing my ACL and it felt quite strange but good and definitely reduced the swelling. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Martyn

Oh, I forgot to share that instead of ice you can use 6 frozen 10 oz. bottles of water. Insert them in the machine, add water to fill line, and you are set to go. I suggest buying 14 10 oz. bottles and freezing them. Initially, put the first six in and alternate them when needed. The bottles get a little distorted in the process and soon you will be able to fit 7 frozen bottles at a time. This is so much easier, faster and cleaner than using ice (and takes up less space in your freezer)!!! Hope this help you all. Genevieve

I am so happy to see that Martyn is improving. He is stunning!
Have you considered acupuncture as another option for him? Just a thought...I am so happy to have found your blog, even though I don't seem to have as much computer time as I use to.
Wishing Martyn a full and speedy recovery.:)
