My own photos from the Time 100 Gala and a late night dinner at a fabulous new bistro!
On Thursday, May 8th, I attended the gala to celebrate Time Magazine’s fifth annual list of the world’s most influential people, which took place in NYC. The notable categories included leaders and revolutionaries, heroes and pioneers, scientists and thinkers, artists and entertainers, and builders and titans. Although I was invited this year as a guest and not an honoree, I am proud to say that in 2005, I did make the list of notable builders and titans. The evening was great fun and it was very exciting and inspirational to be surrounded by so many distinguished people. After the gala, we met up with some good friends for a late dinner at Benoit, Alain Ducasse’s new bistro.
Susan Magrino - my publicist and me - as we make a grand entrance at the Time 100 dinner.
The RED CARPET requires strong eyes to withstand the thousands of flashes from the hundreds of cameras, and a good mood to humor the photographers' multiple demands - look here, no here, Martha look here, come on, oh Martha, what dress are you wearing, etc., etc., etc.
After the still photos, there are about a dozen TV journalists with myriad questions - Why are you here?
What are you wearing? What do you think of Barbara Walters and Star Jones? Who do you look forward to meeting tonight? etc., etc., etc.
The Chairman of Cartier, Frederic de Narp, and I found that being together was better than being alone
Once inside, the next red carpet was even more demanding - but as a guest one gets used to all the attention.
I was honored three years ago and am often asked back to attend the dinner. This year's honorees
included none other than publishing magnate Rupert Murdoch - he just added the Wall Street Journal to
his stable of newspapers.
Rupert, me, Charlie Rose and other former and current honorees.
With Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Blankfein, enjoying a bit of
conversation. Mr. Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs, was honored this year.
This is Ambassador Nancy Brinker and me.
It was so good to see Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, and Bob
Wright, former chairman of General Electric
Mrs. Suzanne Wright and me - she was being honored with her husband for their work on autism.
Humanitarian Madeeha Hasan Odhaib of Iraq on my left, and her deputy to
my right
The powerful news couple - Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough - and me
This year's honoree, Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote the best seller Eat Pray Love.
Jeff Bewkes, president and CEO of Time Warner Inc., and a couple of his
colleagues.
After the Time Gala, I met my friends from Paris and Los Angeles, Salli
and Michel Perrin, at Benoit, a new Alain Ducasse bistro.
Michel and I are choosing our late supper.
Oops! Michel forgot his glasses.
Kevin Sharkey and Salli - she in a stunning Yohji Yamamoto
Susan Magrino enjoying some quiet conversation after the Time Gala
A terrine of beef tongue and a mustardy salad of romaine was a big favorite.
perfectly cooked asparagus with hollandaise
Perfectly crusty bread wrapped in a cloth napkin
rich foie gras with a lingonberry sauce
The lobster bisque was quite delicious
Kevin ordered the escargots - they were served in this earthenware plate. Benoit is a wonderful bistro to try next time you're in New York City.

Thank you, Martha, for sharing a glimpse of both your public and private life. It would be so exciting to 'shadow' you for just one day!

Oh my goodness, I got home late from work and since you are now my homepage I peeked at your event. Hardly recognize Paul Allen without a beard. Thank you again for taking us along. Once many years ago I ordered escargot in France and it came in the same type of platter. What fun. You looked great!

Just kidding!

Absolutely LOVE the lipstick. Wear it on the show, will you? I'd say what I really think about the foie gras, but I'm too polite. :D Talk to Alexis.

the food looked amazing and what especially caught my attention was the lingonberry sauce. over at my cottage there is more lingonberry than you could possibly pick. we use it as a side with everything; mooseroast, nettle pancakes, stuffed cabbage and my mom makes a mean mousse type dessert with semolina out of it!

Black is beautiful on you. You look so gorgeous in black. So elegant and refined, and yet sexy and polished. Enjoyed all the photos and the food looked define. Wish I were there as Cinderella or even as an assistant. Being photographed so much, must make one self-conscious, but Stars always shine, like you Martha! Nan

Good Morning Martha
Thanks for sharing your pictures, you looked great - as usual. I could have done without the picture of the beef tongue, didn't go well with my morning coffee.

So who is taking all the pictures; Kevin? Good, that means you are in more of them and looking fantastic with your red lipstick and black dress. I like the new hairstyle too; not for the show though! I recall that you were honored in 2005 and my crystal ball says you will be honored again. You will always be the most influential to me! Trish
