Someone asked in a blog comment the other day if I was considering a new chow chow puppy. The answer is, yes, I am. In fact, award-winning breeder, Karen Tracy, sent me these photos of her latest litter of the most adorable chow chow puppies. Can you believe that these babies are actually my own Paw Paw's grandsons? Karen says that at five weeks old, all they pretty much do is crawl on top of each other, sleep, and nurse. Such helpless little creatures, but it looks like Mama is taking very good care of them. Karen will continue to send us pictures and explained that according to the American Kennel Club rules, the puppies must be a minimum of 7 weeks old before they can be weaned from their mother. However, it may be 8 weeks or more because they need shots and they must be able to eat dry food on their own. So, in the mean time, I have a decision to make - which one? Or two? Or three?
The following photo show the babies at 1 day old
1 (on left) 2 (on top of one and three) 3 (on right)
At 5 Weeks old, adorable! 1,2, and 3. Can we say CuteOverload!!

They are all so cute! It will be a tough decision.I think puppy #3 has the sweetest face. Good luck!

Dear Martha,
They all are so cute, can you keep all three? :) Good luck picking one of the puppies.

Wow. If there are only three, it's tough to decide how many to take. I'd probably wait to decide based on personality! :o)

Martha,
This is indeed a difficult decision whether to go with just one or adopt all three of your beloved Paw Paw's bloodline. What I can share with you is that we lost our beloved Golden Retriever, Caleb at the age of 10 several years ago due to cancer despite his valiant efforts to overcome this disease. Caleb's enthusiasm for life and unconditional love for his family left a lasting impression on all of us. His passing devastated us for a long while. We still have his picture on the family refrigerator to remind us of his gentle spirit. There was a time when we had the option of adopting a Golden Retriever puppy from his bloodline. With much discussion between all of us, we decided to forego this. Few years ago, his German Shepard playmate, Cheyenne ended up at my parents' home and became a blessing to my mother. Cheyenne continues to keep our memories of Caleb alive. Her recent 10th birthday was bittersweet for us. We are witnessing her struggles in coping with health difficulties while on prescribed medication. To our deepest regret, we've lost the opportunity to preserve our connection with both Caleb and Cheyenne (when she passes in the future) by not adopting one of their bloodline. If you can, follow your heart and adopt all three of these puppies who will be the beneficiary of Francesa and Sharkey's loving guidance. If not three, at least one to maintain your connection to your precious Paw Paw. I wish you the very best with this decision, Martha.

It is my understanding that 10 weeks with the mother is better. they learn social skills. In our rescue we keep the babies with the mom as long as possible.10 weeks at the very least

#3, it has the cutest looking muzzle!
I am so glad in your decision. You have been so well known for your chow chow's.

I don't know how you're going to pick... they are adorable. Have you gone to visit them yet? That's when I think you'll know which one is yours. Thanks for sharing this exciting time with us Martha.

HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY DECIDE!!!!! I would definitely pick all three!!! You have the capibility and love to definitely keep the family together!!! Whatever you decide, I am so glad you are getting another chow. I miss Paw Paw alot!

Martha, I think it is a great idea to get another Chow and maybe two. I find two dogs are easier to take care of then one. Paw Paw was a fantastic looking Chow and you are so lucky to be able to find is offspring. If you can give enough love and affection to four dogs then it should be fine. Good luck!!!!

OH MY GOD - they are PRECIOUS!!!! Martha, how can you not take all three??? I'm so happy for you :) Why split them up, you have plenty of room plus you have help taking care of those sweet babies, its not like you're raising them alone. I wonder how the two Gremlins are going to react. Now we need to come up with names - how fun..... Congrats!! Ann

When our dearly loved Newfoundland died we decided to get TWO beautiful male litter-mate Newfies and what an ordeal it turned out to be. They fed off each other emotionally and were very rambunctious and difficult to train. After several months we ended up selling one. The one we kept instantly settled down and became very easy and devoted to us. I think our pug breathed a sigh of relief as well!

Martha...Take all three. You have the love in your heart and the space at your farm.

I have always regretted not adopting our Mo Bears' brother when I found him at the shelter. Mo has been such a terrific companion for 15 years that I wish I had two of him. Don't miss the chance to keep the sibling together. If you have the resources, adopt all three and keep them together. Wish I had...15 years ago.You can name them one of three, two of three and three of three! Or Curly, Larry and Moe.

Dear Martha,
What a beautiful litter!
It would be so tempting to bring all three home, but I think that I would choose to adopt just one special pup. It sure would be difficult to stick with that decision when three adorable puppies are gazing at you lovingly, though...
Good luck with your decision!

It is my dream to live on acres of land with many dogs. Since I love dogs so much, I'd say take them all. Then, I can live vicariously through you. :D
They are all so beautiful.

I would want all three just for the fun of naming them!
How about Wynken, Blynken and Nod?

Oh Martha!!! How can I possibly choose one over the other two. I love all three of them. They are soooooo cute/adorable. Take them all!!! They are brothers as well as Paw Paws grandpups. You'll have five dogs but, so what??? There is plenty of room and love for all five. :) :)

Martha, I have been closely watching this litter myself as they are my grandchowdren too from the other side of the pedigree. Does that make us related?? lol!
They are all absolutely lovely at this age and such classic chow expressions. The middle one reminds me so much of grandpa "Vincent" who was our well known boy who also reminds me of Paw Paw. The litter is very consistent. You are going to have a blast choosing and I bet your baby will choose YOU!
