More of my photos from last weekend
Fourth of July Weekend Continued in East Hampton
We flew from Maine to East Hampton on Long Island for the second half of the four-day weekend. I had some work to do there and had also planned to attend some lively functions out on the East End, which is the ‘happening place’ during the summer months. Of course, I did a little entertaining, as well. Pierre and I served a beautiful lunch on Saturday and a delicious and robust breakfast on Sunday.
The hydrangeas were in full bloom at Lily Pond. They thrive in the salt air.
More hydrangeas - their blue mopheads look wonderful in teal containers.
And even more - I have many different varieties of these wonderful
shrubs. Many of the shrubs were started from cuttings that I obtained
here and there - mostly from flower arrangements at friends' homes.
The front porch at Lily Pond is perfect for big or small parties. Lunch
for 20 was easily set up on this massive porch, which wraps around the
front of the house.
We also had a breakfast for friends on the 6th of July. The table was
set with vintage hobnail glass and milk glass. The cups and saucers
are from the Martha Stewart collection available at Macy's.
We set up a small table next to each breakfast table. I served
delicious yogurt from Smith Family Farm in Maine, freshly squeezed (and
I mean from real oranges) orange juice, maple syrup, and both skim and
whole milk for coffee.
Here's the white table - old glass, white linens, and those same Martha Stewart cafe-au-lait cups.
These are some of my guests for breakfast - Sheraton Kalouria - our
president of television, Martin Miller, Madge Miller, me, Memrie Lewis,
and of course our very own Darcy Miller Nussbaum - editorial director
of Weddings.
Sweet girls wearing identical dresses - Ella, Daisy, and cousin Emma.
Dwarfed by the giant viburnum and rhododendron hedges, the little girls
danced and pranced, as if posing for a John Singer Sargent portrait -
remember 'Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose?'
Here I am with the three beauties and Grandmother, Madge.

Lily Pond Lane is my favorite house out of the collection. When my husband and I finally own or build a home, Lily Pond will be a great inspiration! Looking at pictures of the home made me become interested in in gardening, also. I love all the picture of Lily pond. It's just very beautiful!

Good Morning Martha
I just want to thank you for sharing your life with us. I wake up every morning and head to the computer with my coffee. I catch up on all the news (depressing usually) read and answer all my emails, check my stocks (very depressing) then I go to your website. I look forward to it every morning. I usually post a comment then I'm ready to start my day. THANK YOU.
Then I say to my self, doesn't that women ever sit still and just spend the day doing nothing???? Do you ever just hang out in a sweatsuit and futz around the house?
Have a great weekend.

Yes, I agree with my fellow bloggers, Lily Pond is definitely my favorite residence of yours. The hydrangeas are just beautiful. What a wonderful retreat to go to in the summer months.

I've always loved the porch at Lily Pond. And I think you have a guest bedroom there with a whole bunch of beds. I'll take the one by the window.

Agreeing with the other comments, your homes are always stunning and great for idea's...I'm going to get large palms for my outdoor patio/gazebo area later today!
I have wondered why you do not produce a book on each of your homes, such as Bunny Williams has done? I would buy SEVERAL copies of each - I love Skylands a great deal, and also Lily Pond. I realize that Bedford is a work in progress, but even a book on Bedford would be outstanding to read!

Hi Martha, What a wonderful, restful, lovely way to end a glorious holiday. I just love the photos of the hydrangeas and the beautiful table settings. The breakfast setting with the blue hobnail glasses is absolutely stunning. Darcy's little girls and her niece are the cutest. It looks like everyone was having a very relaxing time. Thanks for sharing more of Lily Pond. Jan

Martha...what a busy but lovely weekend of entertaining for you! Everything looks exquisite. I am currently at my Lake of the Woods property and seeing all your mopheads makes me miss all the ones i have at home in Vancouver, Canada. I have many different varieties so we go through Summer and early Fall with an abundance of these fabulous blooms. On my return, i hope to have a garden party for my favorite lady friends and will be using all hydrangeas for the table centerpieces. Now if you could just lend me Pierre....sigh!

I believe it was a recent issue of MSL that described blue as "the holy grail of garden colors." How wonderful to have it in such great supply!

Love Darcy's little girls. They are so cute!!! Daisy has gotten so much bigger now. They really look like mom and grandma. I didn't know hydrangeas like salty air - mines have been blooming too!

Martha,
I just love the way you always wear your Merrell clogs with socks!! It does prevent a odoriferous foot!

You say you started your own Hydrangea plantings from friends arrangements. How would I do something similar? I have one (giant) hydrandgea bush and would love to replicate it.
Thank you.

Hi Martha,
Its good to see you relaxing and enjoying the company of your friends young and old. I love the way you encourage simple traditions such as entertaining. I love the vintage hobnail glass, where can you find these?

My day begins with a walk with my pug and then I sneak back into our home while everyone is still under the covers. I grab my coffee and head into the den and start my day with you. To be transported to such beauty is such a treat . You have inspired me throughout my life and I
would agree Lily pond is serenity!
Also, you have never looked so beautiful . Thanks

Lily Pond rocks!
I love the 'almost jade-like" color scheme you have going on that majestic gate of yours echoing through your pots and patio furniture. Love it! Gorgeous! Very Luxe!!

Your blog is easily becoming the best blog there is out there. I'm serious. After following it religiously for 3 weeks I have ordered all of your magazines - except wedding (don't want to get in the whole wedding fever). Your furniture line with Bernhardth is next. It's not just the case of "branding" - it's the lifestyle that I am totally obsessing about.

How can you choose, I would get all three. A wonderful tribute to Paw Paw. Go for it.
