Because MSLO has offices in two separate buildings in Manhattan, there’s a lot of running back and forth between the two locations for things such as company meetings and mail deliveries. To save on transportation costs, we have our own shuttle service, which runs hourly. This same shuttle also accommodates employees with their transportation to and from Grand Central Station, Penn Station, and The Port Authority during the morning and evening commuting hours.
Here’s the shuttle arriving from The Starrett Lehigh building,
approaching the 42nd Street offices. The massive structure in the
background with the beautiful arched windows is the amazing Grand
Central Station. Obviously, employees who work at 42nd Street can
easily walk there, however, it’s quite a hike from Starrett Lehigh.
These are our drivers. Rafiq Nelson, the afternoon driver, is
relieving Lincoln Patterson. Lincoln is holding a packet of
interoffice mail.
The van always seems to fill up.
Here are some of our summer interns – Carter, Kim, Maura, Samantha, Joyce and Zoe.– they all seem very happy.

Speaking of interns.... what a great group!

Welcome to our 42nd street office
Mad Money!

What a great thing. All this is in a great city with quite a bit of public transportation, taxis etc...
How I wish more American cities had great transportation systems. It would be great if there were more companies like MSLO too. Hope you all appreciate these things. They may seem small but they are important.

Happy Birthday on the 3rd Martha and I wish you a great prosperous year. The world got a real gem of a person when you came along.
I love this series of post on your operation. You take good care of everyone and I can see you appreciate them.
I've talked my husband in to buying some of your stock. I told him I had the inside scoop.

Hi Martha, What a neat idea to have a fantastic shuttle system to accomodate all of those who need it! It also gives two more people a job. I can't tell who is happier-the summer interns or the shuttle drivers. Thanks for another close-up look at more of your staff and a ground level look at more of New York City, especially Grand Central Station. I love all of these tours you take us on. Jan

It seems like MSLO is a fantastic place to work. I regret living in Oklahoma, I would love to service such a great company with pride and loyalty to the MARTHA brand.

Great idea about the shuttle. Any way to help keep emissions low is definitely a good thing;-)
Hope you have a wonderful Birthday, Martha!
Take care.

Excellent! Good job by all I must say. I would love a job where I knew a ride was coming in a matter of moments.

What a thoughtful and economical idea! I think more companies should think about doing the same if they don't already. I have to say, MSLO has got to be a great place to work. I envy your employees!
One thing that caught my attention at the Starrett Lehigh building is that freight elevator we saw on the Apprentice: Martha Stewart. You drove in and it looked like it took your SUV right up to a private parking garage. So neat.
Sunday is your big day! Are you planning a birthday dinner for all your August birthday friends? Whatever you do, enjoy!
Happy Birthday. Trish

It's wonderful to provide this service for your employees...this is efficient and i am sure the staff are more energized by knowing they can get from one office to the other without delay.

Working for MSLO would be way cool! I can't even imagine working in New York City, having lived and worked all my life (in my home-town) in bucolic Western Maryland! (I always say in defense that, hey, I like my little life!) The shuttle service is such a perk that the company offers to get to the "offsites"!...how nifty!
It IS fun and informative to take these visual tours and get to see the faces behind the scenes! We as readers come to the conclusion that we're all the same, striving for similar things in life. =^..^=

Happy Birthday Martha! You have definitely affected my life! I have every magazine and every book you've ever done (I've just pre-ordered your cooking school book). I've learned so much from you and will continue to. Thank you for enriching my life (and my family's life) in so many ways! Love this blog! Have a wonderful birthday Sunday! Karen

Hi Martha,
I watch your show all the time and read your blog daily. I never knew you had summer interns. Can you tell us in a post how to apply for a summer internship program and what your duties are as an intern?
Would you take a 43yr. pharmacist/mother for the summer? I could use the break and I would work hard.

Wow that many summer interns! How lucky they are. I can't imagine a more wonderful place to do a summer internship.

Martha:
I think having a shuttle for your employees is great.
It not only makes for happy, but punctual employees.
I hope you have a wonderful birthday weekend and that God blesses you in a very special way!

Dear Martha,
I've been a fan of your work since I was a teen. You've inspired me in countless ways and expanded my creative thought process. For this, I sincerely thank you. My gratitude does not stop at that...you seem to have gone more "green" over the past few years, since your new show. I love that you feature small "indie" designers and artist and realize that their views and art greatly influence the growing craft community worldwide. Thank you again for opening your eyes to the "indie" community and embracing it.
Okay, now, I must say that I'm totally confused by the commercial that I just saw on my television screen for WALMART! Anger, frustration, and most of all DISAPPOINTMANT describe my feelings. What are YOU and your company thinking????? Do you know how many supporters of the "queen of craft" you're losing over this? The words WALMART, eco-friendly, "indie art", and MARTHA STEWART should never be mentioned in the same sentence together. It's like topping a cake with eggshells, a great thought, new idea thats not been done before, looks good on the surface, but in reality, a complete paradox and facade.
You've lost me and a two handfuls of my friends that I've spoken to in the past day. As you know, the blogging community is a powerful machine, especially in the "indie" craft world. I hope that the bloggers go nuts with this and that you'll rethink your ties with WALMART. I mean, come on, could you do anything worse for the American Economy? I'm sure you know that 70% of what Walmart sells is produced in lovely China, under less than tolerant conditions. I'll stop now. Yes, I know that this comment will not be posted, but I'm sure that someone at MSO will read this. I would not stand true to myself or my fellow crafters if I said nothing.
Sincerely,
a dissapointed supporter :(
I'm a mama, wife, eco nut, and creator.
