UPDATE: In response to the TMZ.com article I would like to bring to light the fact that Sharkey is a cute little GIRL. Also, she is a very HAPPY dog that happens to be good at many different facial expressions!
I just love the way sisal carpeting looks throughout my homes, but just like any carpet, sisal does not fare well with spills, or the occasional pet ‘accident.’ Fortunately, I discovered a remarkable product that does a fantastic job of making those stains disappear. It’s called Host Dry Carpet Cleaner Shaker Pack. This all-natural product is made up of a balanced blend of moisture, detergent, and a bit of safe-to-use solvents. When needed, we just sprinkle the sawdust-like material over the stain and gently brush it in. Host goes to work, dissolving and absorbing the stain and any odor associated with it. After about an hour, you just vacuum it up and voila! – no more stain and no wet carpet! I’ve used Host Cleaner with great success and it’s good for all types of carpets. Plus, I love that it’s environmentally friendly.
Here’s the wonderful Host Dry Carpet Cleaner Dry Pack.
‘I’m so sorry – I didn’t mean to wet the carpet. Fortunately, there’s Host to the rescue.’
‘I’ll just sit here and wait until the vacuum comes and takes the stain away. I’ll feel so much better then.’

Sharkey looks like she was so concerned. She is a very compassionate dog.

Sorry Martha and Sharkey!!!! I knew from the love you show to us through so many blogs about your beloved pets that it completely skipped my mind that Sharkey is a SHE. I knew that from earlier posts and I'm so sorry that I did not remember my favorite pets Sharkey and Francesca are both female. I know they are expressive because you interact with them so lovingly. Forgive this oversight. Nan

Has anyone written a book called "The Joy of Pets" yet?
I think you should - sarcasm and all.

What horrible crud I just read on the TMZ.com web site. How utterly low can people become? Martha, take my advice and don't let such scum get to you. You have nothing, nothing to be ashamed of. You have never done anything wrong no matter what anyone has said even the feds. Don't let this garbage affect you. You are the highest moral, intelligent, loving person I know. Your compassion for your animals is saintly and genuine. Just remember that we know you and someone of their mentality should be wiped off the face of the Earth. Nan

I love all of the blog posts you have written regarding your beautiful animals! But, don't you have chinchillas? You should write more about your little chinnies! I'm sure they want the spotlight sometimes, too.
Keep up the good work!

Well bless her sweet little heart! Sometimes our precious darling girls just have an accident that they couldn't help. How nice to know that Host will come to our rescue.

Kismet (the cat) doesn't have "accidents," he does it on purpose. $%^& cat. Where do I get some???
Posted by: Amy | July 21, 2008 at 09:55 PM
Poor Sharkey! It happens to the very best of dogs! Thank you for the helpful hint on what to use when it does happen! We have Labs so on the rare occasion of an accident...I can always count on it being a BIG one!

Dear Mom,
Sorry about the little mess I made. I promise that I'll try not to do it again. OK? Your'e the best.
Love,
Sharkey
p.s. Please don't tell Frannie about this. She'll never let me live it down.

Sharkey is sooooo toot!

Martha I love your blogs! Keep them coming. I love how you share little moments with everyone and bring a smile to everyones face.
I also posted a bit of a retort on TMZ's article. As follows:
"TMZ,
First I would like to address your complete and total ignorance. Martha shared a product she uses on her own personal blog. She posted personal sweet pictures of her home and pets and you are vapid enough to bash her? I don't see your derelict writers posting their private lives on public blogs for everyone to read. Secondly, your writers are completely and totally an OUNCE of intelligence. Sharkey is a female Frenchie that Martha has had for years along with Francesca. If you are going to bother even reporting a side note of a post on her blog at least get the facts right rather than running to post your latest trashy version of what you think is the truth. You have shown no respect towards Martha in the past, especially when her mother passed on, and I don't expect a disgusting piece of filth as TMZ to now. However, you have given me my chuckle for the day at your high-school level educated yuppies' lack of actually reporting on any real truth. Bravo TMZ. If this were newsprint I would have had something to line my birdcages for the week."

This was just the product I was looking for when Dudley threw up on my mother's white carpet last week - Great tip - thanks!

Martha,
TMZ comments are not worth your response!! However, I love both your little doggies. I think they are adorable!! I haven't read the TMZ article, but shame of them for making assumptions when they have no clue about your relationship with your animals. It is very apparent that all your animals are well loved!!

Oooohhhh - so TMZ reads Martha Stewart. Keep reading children, maybe you'll eventually learn something.

One of my ragdolls was having a tummy upset yesterday, so I searched several hardware stores for this product and found it! Martha, it is everything you said it was. It works like a charm and is very easy to use. It's the perfect thing for a person who chose her carpet color based on the color of kitty throw-up.

We should all be as happy and well cared for as Sharkey!!!!!
(my mother would not be as understanding if I peed on the rug!!)

Martha, what do you use to get rid of doggy odors in the house. I have a Old English Bulldog and am taking care of my daughter's two King Charles Spaniels for the summer. Thanks

Sharkey is a sweet Girl and as

Never read their articles and never will. Good for you, for
setting them straight! The post
above by Debbie was GREAT!
Take care Martha and Hugs to
your fur Babies.

I've never even heard of TMZ.com till now. Looks like a pretty sleazy site.
I'd be willing to bet few animals have better lives than Martha's!

My husband and I had just purchased a beautiful braided seagrass rug when we adopted an Australian Shepherd puppy. As you can imagine, housetraining her was not compatible with our new rug!
We were at our wits end with trying to find someone to clean it when I read a response to a reader question in Living (I think it was the May 08 issue?) when you suggested Host. We bought it immediately and it has been the savior of our rug! Thanks for the tip, and it's nice to know that even Martha Stewart has to deal with such messes :)

I use HOST for my dog spills and all of my carpet. I rent the HOST machine to clean my traffic areas! It's dry really fast and the spots don't come back! I get mine at a local cleaning supply company, Capital City Cleaning & Supply here in Madison, WI. Go easy on the puppy (Accidents do happen!)

Martha,
Having 2 Minnie doxies and 1 Chichi we have the occasional "accident" and I have searched every store, and the net for something that works on urine. So I am SUPER excited that you have found a great product that works. My parents will be even more excited! I live in Texas, Where might I get (HOST), can you get it in stores, or do I need to order it on-line.
I think the Picture with Sharkey is the cutest thing. The 1st time Maddiee, "minnie one eyed doxie " wet the floor, she got her picture taken by her accident spot. LOL I loved the face she gave when I took the picture. It was this droopy I'm sorry look. A few weeks later she took her 1st picture beside her pee pad, (She had used the pee pad, then Twisted the pee pad up for her momma.)
My other two use pee pads too, But only does my Maddiee twist "fold" up her pee pads for her momma. Yes, She is my little "weirdo" But I love her! I Video taped her doing it once, she literally gets her nose under the pee pad, That way she does not touch her own pee, and folds it over, and twists it. My mom says, it because she doesn't want to get her paws and nose dirty.
Just wanted to share my story and thank you for sharing about HOST.
PS. SHAME on TMZ, they only pick on you because You are a STRONG WOMAN! who is very successfully, in which they aren't. So people with no confidence pick on the ones who are confident.
Keep Up the good Work!
Would also Love to see your Office again, I've been Trying to Replica the office you showed on the show. I finally found the same type of metal desk. Just deciding on color now.

My mom has used host for years and now I use it to clean my puppy accidents. I have found it works great on kid spills too!! Thanks for the great cleaning tip Martha!

Martha,
What have you used for cat urine? We have a cat that is sick with epilepsy, and has seizures, which causes him to be incontinent of urine. Of course cat urine is soo hard to get rid of, esp the smell. We have tried everything! every product out there. Along with vinegar, and water. Is there any tried and true product you have found?!!

I use to use host commmercially for years. And I still use it in my home. We have seven dogs and it workes great.
