We've been having some wild weather this summer in the Northeast. It's been unusually cool and very rainy. I managed to capture some photos during a deluge at my home in Bedford. This storm lasted only a short time before clearing quite suddenly. Come and see.
After a bright and sunny day, clouds rolled in along with a torrential
downpour. This is a view from my kitchen door out into the sunken
garden.
Just as suddenly as the rain came, the sky cleared again.
I love the way droplets look like crystal when the sun shines on them. These chairs were from my Kmart collection.

Now I know where I can find a pot of gold. Beautiful rainbow.

What a rain... I love that picture with loooong table outside.
This is very smart and to have succulents and drought loving plants in the containers outside - they look also interesting.

Beautiful!
How fun that you have banana and century plants, but a lot of work to take them in in winter.
It doesn't rain here. Any rain shower is the exception that proves the rule. Actually, we have yet to see much heat this summer. One medium earthquake is all nature has offered us so far.

Hi Martha, What beautiful photos of the recent rainstorm at your farm! We finally had a dry day today, here near Seattle, after three stormy days that included thunder and lightning and heavy rainfall. The stormy weather followed three days of 90 degree heat. The wind really picked up and the temperatures were in the 60s. We had a couple of inches of rain. This has been an unusually cold/hot summer. I love the photo of the fabulous rainbow and the beautiful drooplets that do look like crystals. The photo of the view from your kitchen door is absolutely fantastic! It's like the photo froze the raindrops as they were falling. Beautiful! Have a good time in Mexico. Can't wait to see your new "BIG" show and the segments about Mexico. Thanks again for sharing. Jan

A rainbow in the bible --it is seen as the symbol of hope and the bright emblem of God's mercy and love --- something about the deal God had with Noah.
Your house looks like a Bedford Manor soo much land you could play polo if you had the ponies!

You have such gorgeous property. That reminded me of a rainbow I saw once in Pearl Harbor.

Oh Martha, your photographs reminded me so much of the few years that my husband & I lived in Hawaii. I loved those passing rain storms and the rainbows that they always left behind!
Now that we are back in Northeast, it is such a treat to have one here! Thanks for sharing your photographs with us!

Hey, Martha
Enjoy that rain, in case it doesn't come back. We had so much rain yesterday, off and on, that rumors of Noah's Ark were floating along with it. Now, I wish it were "cool," but it's just "less hot," like in the mid 80's. I wouldn't mind if there was some real cool here in Texas, so would you send some our way? you too, Jan Erickson--don't keep the cool weather to yourself, please share! ;-}

I enjoyed the rain photos, we are going through a dry spell. I have 2 favorite photos I would like to hang in my home. The droplets on the banana leaf and the one of your sucken garden. They made me feel cool, calm and refreshed. Thank you for sharing.

Martha, You have some nice images. I would love to see you add a 35mm lens and get a more photojournalistic look to your images.

Tropical storm Fay left a few drops down here in south Florida too which is always good for the grass. Unfortunately, people further north had some flooding. But, we have a lot of those sudden storms that end as quickly as they start so people rarely cancel their picnic plans.
It rained so much on Thursday that I spent the day with buttons and a glass vase trying to replicate the one from the September MSL magazine in 'good things'. I didn't have enough white buttons so I used colored ones and I think it turned out pretty good. Next, I plan to do some stenciling. Thanks for great ideas and for your blog. The picture of the rain from your back door looks like a beautiful painting! Trish

The older I get, the more I LOVE rain. There's something about the nourishing, cleansing nature of a good rain that just makes me feel happy and content.

Lovely! the photo of your 'sunken garden' taken from the kitchen door reminded me of a Kincaid painting. Relaxing!

I said out loud "oh, wow!" when I saw the downpour (outside your kitchen door). I'm jealous, as here in Western Maryland, this is the first week of the summer that I won't have to mow! We haven't had a-n-y rain for about 10 days now, and my grass is beginning it's decline to the dormant stage (and I mow on the highest setting!!). All in all, though, to be the 22nd of August, and this is just happening for the first time - well, I can't complain too awfully much! It's been a g-r-e-a-t gardening season, with everything being lush and green. Some showers are due here mid-next week, and things will bounce back, I feel certain, especially with cooler temperatures and heavy dews that arrive in September.
The rainbow makes one stop in their tracks and just gaze, taking in all the natural beauty! (And look at that sky!!)
I've said it before in my recent posts...I l-o-v-e rain on a summer day...you'd think I'd never seen rain before (I go on-n-on, so!) As a gardener and nature-lover, I know the magic it contains!
=^..^=

You are so lucky to be getting rain! I live in St. Paul, MN. and it's been extremely dry. Very hard on my vegetable garden. Water from my sprinkler just isn't the same.

Always remember a rainbow in the sky is a reminder of a covenant between God and every living soul of his promise never to bring a deluge to the earth as he did in Noah's day. Genesis 9:13-16
A GREAT REMINDER!
