In today's multi-purpose world, people usually like their common household products to be the same, even better if it works in your garden or lawn. But when using vinegar for an organic weedkiller, gardeners should be a bit more careful.
Andrew said vinegar can work, but it's only safe to use on weeds that have just germinated or up to two weeks old. If you catch weeds in time, it's best to use a horticultural strength vinegar, which is 20 percent horticulture strength, rather than white kitchen vinegar, which is only 5 percent acidic.
Even so, using this requires attention and being careful, where protective gloves and remember to protect your eyes by possibly wearing goggles.
If your weeds have gone way past germination, try using a product like Nature's Glory , which has vinegar and lemon juice in it and is safe for your garden and lawn.
Andrew said another great thing to do, especially if you're trying to get rid of weeds to plant grass for your yard, is to cut all weeds and cover the space with a layer of black plastic. He says doing this will block out the sun and keep the soil warm. Leave the plastic on the site for six to eight weeks, doing this will not be an instant weed killer, but if done now, your garden will be prepped for the fall, just in time to plant grass seeds.
