The DIY Bride

Despite all the busy planning leading up to the wedding day, many brides take pleasure in crafting a special, homemade item themselves. Well, we've got you in mind. Each time you pick up an issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, you'll find charming ways to DIY, from favors to ring pillows, that don't take all that long to make (see the cute welcome packet Good Thing we featured in our Winter issue, on newsstands now). I also love Khris Cochran's DIYBride.com. The site (she also has a new book by the same name) features plenty of pretty homemade projects, plus forums and sources for all your crafting needs. If you do plan to go this route, be sure not to get carried away. Crafting your whole wedding yourself might leave you feeling overexerted rather than inspired, so focus on one or two projects you can make truly special.

Abby Larson just finished up a feature over at STYLE ME PRETTY (dot com) on DIY projects. Some really great touches from some really great brides. She's going to be posting the 'how-to's soon.

This book is terrific! Just received it today and I can't put it down!

I'm so glad you mentioned this! I have been a fan of her blog for a very long time but was thrilled to see her new book on the shelf of my local Barnes & Nobles. She truly is a crafty queen :)

DIY is so poular now with brides on a tight budget. I love Martha Stewart Weddings! I have found great ideas for DIY wedding favors and decorating. Thanks so much!

Hi! I am having such a problem with my centerpieces and I am hoping that you can help! I am getting married on March 28, 2009. My fiance proposed to me on a hot air ballon last March. We are trying to make hot air balloons our theme. My sister is a graphic designer and made us a beautful monogram/logo of a very simple hot air balloon and our names to use on all our stationary and favors. Our reception is taking place at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange, NJ. It is formal reception site so we know that our decorations have to match the formailty of the room. We have thought of trying to find rice paper lanterns in the shape of balloons and use them as centerpieces. We would get 5 or 6 lanterns in sizes ranging from 8 inches - 12 inches and arrange them on tables in groups so that each table would have 5 or 6 lanterns on them. We would light them with battery operated lights or candles. I am having so much trouble finding the lanterns. Any thoughts on where to get them or any ideas on what to do other than lanterns?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
