Rather than having a bridal shower consisting solely of the bride opening presents, or a crazy, out of control bachelorette party, try these fun get together ideas. It will be a memorable event, not because it was mind-numbingly boring or because it left you wishing your mind was numb the next day, but because it was a great time spent with your girlfriends.
Wine tastings are a great option for bridal showers and bachelorette parties. Some companies, like Swirl Events, even offer private in-home wine tastings. What a great way to celebrate and learn something about wine while you are at it!
The bridal party can also go to a salon together for manicures, pedicures, and massages. Sometimes this service can be offered in-home, as well.
Or, have a chef come to your house and teach you how to cook a gourmet meal--then enjoy the finished product together! This is a great gift idea for newlyweds, too, who can learn how to cook together in their own kitchen. Google "cooking lessons at home" to find services like this in your area. Maybe you can even get Martha to come cook with you!!

I love the idea about a wine get together! My girlfriends and I are a little to old for a crazy bachlorette party (reminds me too much of college.) It's nice to hear about fun, classy alternatives.

Just this past month, my girlfriend had a wine experience bridal shower.
She lives in Sonoma Valley region and we arranged for a driver who shuttled 8 of us to 3 different wineries throughout the day.
Absolutely delightful and best of all ... different from the usual.
Highly recommended idea,
Kim

My friend and her fiance are going to Hawaii for their honeymoon. We are asking her shower guests to bring gifts that she can use in Maui. To expand the tropical theme, her shower will be a pool party and cook-out with Hawaiian pupus.

I have arranged a weekend get-away for my wedding party in Carmel, CA. I figured it would be a great mini-vacation and we can do all tons of things while we are there! A lot better than a lousy, drunken night with male strippers!
