As we said a few posts back, weddings are all about the details. Though your theme is important in tying everything together, it's the small delicacies such as a carefully selected menu, impeccable etiquette, and well designed favors which make your wedding unique. Invitations in particular are special, not only for giving your friends and family their first taste of what's to come, but also because they can serve as keepsakes, bringing back good memories years after the date has passed.
The Lettered Olive, a stationery company from Charleston, SC (perhaps named after the lettered olive sea shell that inhabits the Carolina coast?) makes beautiful letterpress invitations. The designs are mostly fabric, beach, or flower inspired, and while they don't come cheap, they are all amazingly intricate and ornate, while still managing to keep up a modern vibe in their clever arrangement (see the second picture below!)
Here's the same invitation linked up with its mates :)
Cute napkins, reply cards, and seating cards follow the same theme:
Aside from the amazing illustrations, these invitations are also printed on really high quality paper.
My other favorite stationery is this classic monogram beauty from William Arthur. If letterpress is outside of your budget, they offer 7 different printing methods (including letterpress) that you can choose from. Here too, the paper is completely luxurious--you'll wonder what its thread count is.
Another cute stationery idea is to spritz (not drench) your invitations with your perfume or home fragrance before you send them....get the guests excited and show off even more of your impeccable taste.

I love those pink and green invitations from the Charleston-based company! Adorable!

Pretty. I just received a couple invitations this summer. One of them definitely stood out - it was 1) the illustrations 2) the calligraphy 3) the incredibly luxurious paper quality - kind of like the one by Lettered Olive. The interesting thing was when I looked a the wedding details for the different weddings, the couple with the best invitation, clearly had the most thorough and fun events mapped out for the guests at their destination wedding. Invitations say a lot about a couple and their excitement and attention to detail for the big day.

I love these adorable invites! Another great place for invitations is Lilah Paper (www.lilahpaper.com)! They have beautiful invitations and are pretty budget friendly as well! Also, they will give you 10% OFF if you mention that you saw them on Wedding Wire!

It's definitely about details that make weddings memorable and unique. I had a Scrabble-themed wedding and created interactive invitations where our guests spelled their names on the RSVP card with Scrabble stickers. Our guests not only loved the playful invite but the personalization of each invitation. You can see our invitation on the Bellz and Whistlez blog at www.bellzandwhistlez.com.

So pretty! I agree with ShopLittleGifts and Christy Quiogue, the importance of details. A small request from someone with minor allergies (and a fiance with major allergies). Please be cautious not to over-spritz the invitations with perfume to create a subtle effect. Perfume can trigger allergies in some individuals.
The invitations are absolutely fabulous, though!

These invitations are beautiful! I adore the Lettered Olive line, though it's new to me. Our store carries the William Arthur line and they do a fabulous job with their letterpress and other printing methods too. They have everything from really simple to ornate as well. A couple other beautiful letterpress invitation companies that we carry and adore are Dauphine Press, That Sky Blue, Real Card Studio and Oblation Papers & Press. Amazingly each has their own unique style! www.sarahbstationery.com

I love the letterpress invitations. For the slightly more DIY brides out there, I found a place that has very nice quality DIY Wedding Invitation Kits that are simple to put together, yet highly customizable. They're at:

I ordered some free samples and have been having a ball trying out different looks for my invite!

What is great about the William Arthur invitations, is their unique selection of envelope liners. You can ever personalize it with your own name.
I had the privilege to visit their plant recently and they truly impressed me with their quality and exceptional workmanship.
