I recently had the pleasure of meeting Sharon Richter, a registered dietitian, at a lunch I hosted for young media professionals. We got to talking about health, brides, and all of the tempting foods you encounter in the summer. Below Sharon has provided some tips to help you fit in that wedding dress.
"BBQ season is here! Some people get very worried about packing on the pounds with dogs on the grill and ice cream truck bells ringing like we are Pavlov's dog, but I think this is one of the easiest seasons. Here are some summer tips:
-Make ice pops with sugar free beverages such as Crystal Light.
-Freeze grapes, blueberries and bananas for a cold refreshing dessert.
-Stop by your local outdoor market and support the local farmers. You will be helping them and getting some of the best tasting products.
-Eat veggies, corn in the husk, fish, chicken, turkey burgers, sweet potatoes, oh my! Clean out the vegetable drawer and make vegetable kabobs!Just make sure you get the grill nice and hot to avoid food sticking to the grates."

I never used to think of fruit as a dessert, unless of course it was on top of ice cream or cheesecake or something of the sort, until I went to Greece last summer. At almost every restaurant that I went to, they served us watermelon for dessert. It was the most refreshing thing in hot weather, when you don't want something heavy like cake to be sitting in your stomach. Ever since, I have been using fruit to satisfy many of my cravings for something sweet. It really works!

Darcy, I enjoy your ideas about weddings and all the trimmings. Also, I enjoy the nice relationship you seem to have with Martha. However, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop telling Martha about not giving you a wedding gift. It comes across as tacky and greedy and I don't think you mean it to be that way. It is very annoying.
