Newly added to our Real Wedding galleries is the May 17th, 2008 nuptials of Suzanne and Adam (we'll be adding a new one the first Wednesday of every month). The simple and elegant California wedding was planned with the help of Alison Events, and captured by photographer Lisa Lefkowitz. Check it out here and read on for some special tidbits from the bride and groom.
- Suzanne wore her mother's engagement ring, which has aquamarines, as her "something blue."
- May in northern California can still be a bit cool, especially if the fog rolls in from the ocean. Together with her mother, Suzanne planned for any "cold weather" scenarios by getting jackets and pashminas, and heat lamps for the cocktail hour. But instead, it was the hottest heat wave on record that weekend, and they were caught handing out fans in the air condition-free church, circulating cold drinks, and laughing through the heat.
- The bride and groom met on a group lunch date orchestrated by Suzanne's boss (a friend of Adam's). On their first official date, Adam took Suzanne to a rodeo—she loved the idea, being an Oklahoma native. Their engagement was 18 months.
I asked the new Mr. & Mrs. Yonkers to share their favorite moments from the wedding. Suzanne got it down to three:
- Sitting in the church with Adam during the ceremony, so relaxed, looking out at our guests, and really enjoying the moment and the significance of the ceremony.
- Adam surprising me by getting on stage and singing "Oh Suzy Q" to me with the band! I guess he had been practicing for months.
- Dancing with my dad and grandfather at the reception (both have passed away since the event).
Adam's favorite moment was “right before they announced us as Mr. & Mrs. Yonkers for the first time at the reception. We were waiting outside the doors and had a great moment alone together, plus the excitement of seeing all of our family and friends was building.”
And Suzanne was quick to pass along a tip she received, which was to take a pre-wedding getaway as a couple. She and Adam drove up the coast of California in Marin County to escape any stress of wedding planning and to remind themselves what the wedding was all about—their love for each other.

This is such a beautiful picture, and great advice from the couple. My heart jumped when I saw the photo - one of my wedding couples this year is driving away in that same car, and I can't wait to photograph them in it.

I am simply swept away by how the couple glows in this picture. I love the gown, simple and elegant cut on the back, and the wedding car-to die for!
