Fashion: Reuven Kassai Designs Cufflinks

Posted by Sherri Caudell Brennan, Shopping and Fashion Expert

These cufflinks from Reuven Kassai are so special, they will not go unnoticed by your groom or his groomsmen. They are more like small sculptures than just jewelry, and the brushed metal really makes them feel very current and modern while still being traditional. What do you think?

Etiquette: It's the Groom's Wedding, Too, Right?

Posted by Talley Sue Hohlfeld, Etiquette Expert

I just got a note from a reader via our AskMartha e-mail box asking how she can do something special for her groom. (He does sound pretty wonderful, too; he goes out of his way to make her feel special, and to take on her problems as though they were his.) She wrote, "Help me to make this 'our' special day, not a day devoted to me alone."

The bride does get pretty fussed over. She gets the spotlight-grabbing dress; he wears the background-inducing formalwear. In the stereotypical wedding, she makes the grand entrance, while he discreetly enters from the side. Classic toasts include toasts to the bride—but not to the groom.

Etiquette allows women to propose toasts now; that might be my suggestion. Although my husband seems to think I've rewarded him for his care and generosity just by marrying him!

She's got several months of planning--her wedding isn't until Spring 2010. Got any ideas for her?

Get Him a Gift He Will Love

Posted by Anthony Luscia, Men's Market Expert

Sometimes guys need a little help thinking, well, thoughtfully. The gifts you give your bridal party are likely to be sincere and meaningful; the ones he gives his groomsmen should be the same, not to mention something they will really use and enjoy. I don't know many men who wouldn't love receiving a nice bottle of scotch or wine from a significant date—say, the year they all graduated from college. It's sweet without being too sentimental. To take it to the next level, your groom can top the bottle with a collapsible tin backpacking cup, for those rugged groomsmen still planning on taking the yearly men-only fishing (or other outdoor activity) trip. There are some great vintage ones on Ebay.

Another can't miss idea? Every guy wants a cool pair of cufflinks, but what about a pair that pulls double duty? These fantastic links from the one and only Ted Baker feature two different styles: One side is a gray floral square and the other is classic silver.

Gifts like these are sure to be remembered long after the wedding.

Has your guy asked for help making the gift-giving decision? Or is he brave enough to come up with a gift on his own?

Tie One On

Posted by Katie Hatch, Style Director

It's your wedding. If not a new suit, your beau should at least get a new tie. Alexander Olch makes a beautiful and interesting collection, and sometimes even more amazing custom ties (although the custom work will only be as good as your ideas!) I love that he uses classic, unfussy fabrics like wool, cotton, and corduroy, and that the ties have a handmade, old money look, which is slightly different than the ragtag look of the ties I used to make as Father's Day gifts.

I love the cotton stripes for a summer wedding:

And to finish it all off he makes round handkerchiefs, which, when tucked into a pocket, sort of look like flowers, here thanks to bright red ticking on the edge. Very clever. How is your husband-to-be dressing up his suit on your wedding day?

Fall 09 Men's Fashion Report

Posted by Anthony Luscia, Men's Market Expert

Men are notoriously hands-off when it comes to planning the details of your wedding (prove me wrong if you have a groom who can't get enough of wedding planning!). But one thing they'll definitely want to have their say in is what they wear down the aisle. Of course, you may have to do the research for them (that's where I come in), but you won't be disappointed with your options in men's formalwear this year. Now more than ever, bridal fashion—even women's bridal fashion—is reflecting what we're seeing on the runway, which means better, more versatile suits that can transition to every day. The Fall 09 collections have recently come out of Milan, and the looks are strong, traditional, and tailored—in other words perfect for your wedding. I love the modern look of slim, single-breasted suits, but fitted double-breasted suits are making a comeback. And you can never go wrong with a classic tux or black suit. What look is your groom planning on wearing? Is he doing something a little wacky—say brightly colored socks or no suit at all? I'd love to know!
